    As someone who doesn't care about Silver and Golden age comics, hearing you talk about them has made me really curious about this book. I want to see that Jack Kirby art for myself.

    I don't understand people who hate Golden Age comics. They are foundational titles and a hoot to read...naive but endlessly creative and anarchic. I was most excited because of all ot reprints with the original Vision in this volume. His stories are hard to find and have been reprinted very rarely.

    Wow! The colors in this omni just POP! Thank you Omar for doing these. I'm getting this, for the non-Captain America content, the extras, and the long Steranko introduction, even though I have the Golden Age Captain America omni. However, I'll need to keep that volume to have Captain America # 11 and 12 in my library. Hope you can do an advance look at the Golden Age Human Torch omnibus. Right now, I don't think I'll buy it, but I'm keeping an open mind.

    Well, I was finally able to order a copy of this guy today. The DM variant, 40% off the list price, and only had to pay a third of the postage. Back when these Omnibuses first came out, I had hopes of getting all of them, but I'm grateful to have at least this one now to add to my collection of Simon & Kirby collected edition books !

    NICE, Omar! I’ve got that one on order too. Can’t wait for it to land. It looks superb! I’ve got the 2014 GA Cap Omni too, but the restoration in this looks stunning. I’ve got it on order through Amazon, so it’ll be the blue Cap ‘n’ Bucky on bike cover that I’ll be getting 👍

    that's one of the rare occasions where I really prefer the DM covers, the colors and design on em is fantastic. I assume the spine would be the same for both, as usual. I do wonder if the back of the other version would be black/blue or similar to the DM cover.

    I am a fan of the Golden Age of Comics. I enjoy reading the Golden Age Stories just as much as the modern stories, maybe even more so. I will definitely be getting the Direct Market version of this book that’s will be in the comic book store. I like the cover for the Direct Market version more than the other one. The artwork looks wonderful, so bright and beautiful. Anything from the Golden Age I will read. I would like to see more of these Golden Age collections. Thanks for the review.

    Agree with the other comments here, I may have to get into these old versions of comics. Omar can you tell us what the paper quality is like when you review these older comic omnibus. Im sort of against the glossy thick versions for these types of omnibus as it would remove the nostalgic feel and would prefer a matte paper stock and not thick. As always great review.

    • @NearMintCondition

      It's the glossy paper they have in their current omnis. I pointed it out in the Golden Age Submariner omnibus.

  • @fausty616

    Just ordered my Subby last night. Looking forward to having the full line. Do not believe Joe and Jack did much other material for another volume. After Cap #10 they left for DC and other publishers. Jack didn’t return until the 50s for the Monsterbus material. Not sure if there’s enough post-war Carl Burgos Torch for another volume. 50s Romita Cap is tiny and ended up as the only “Decades” trade recently worth getting on its own. So that leaves the possibility of post-Kirby Cap and maybe Paul Gustavson Angel? Marvel’s name value Golden Age is pretty weak.
    DC needs to step up their game and expand beyond the trinity and Green Arrow. Justice Society, Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman, Captain Marvel/Shazam, Jr and Mary, Plastic Man, Blackhawk, Johnny Quick, Superboy, Robin. I’m definitely the exception, but there are a good chunk of nerds like me who would scoop these up.

    • @NearMintCondition

      There are so many books they could be working on, but man they seem to be stuck on just a few titles in chronological order. I think you are right about Cap 11. Good call.

    Politics have always been in comics, but we have never had such ham-fisted attempts as now. It's not the politics, it's the execution that is sorely lacking. This looks dope. I'll get it. Thanks for the great review, as always!

Can you imagine a conversation between us? 😂😂😂 Out of interest, Mark Millar, how do you say it? When it's Americans I only ever hear Millaaaaaaarrrrrrr. Timely is too far back for me, and I won't be getting them, but I'm pleased they're printing them like this. I think of omnis as a historical thing. Sure you can read them, but then they sit on your shelf for years, and it's nice that these can share in it too.

  • @Mr_Rob_otto
    @Mr_Rob_otto 5 лет назад +1

    Politics back in those days were more black and white and punching Nazis meant punching actual Nazis. These comics were war propaganda. Comics being “political” now equates with “social justice.” I don’t have a problem with that necessarily, but in my opinion, it’s incorrect to conflate the two.

    • @NearMintCondition
      @NearMintCondition  5 лет назад +3

      I'm not sure if I 100% agree with you. But hey, that's cool. we don't have to agree, that makes life less boring. I'm thinking more of the lines of Golden Age Submariner. Where he literally had to squint his eyes to go and pretend to be a Japanese Navy soldier to go kick the crap out of them. Now, that being said I'm sure kids weren't fond of the Japanese back then, but seeing your favorite knock out specific races....probably fueld some hatred. But you are right about the black and white Nazi punch...didn't hurt that Kirby was the son of Jewish immigrants. But honestly, I stay away from politics and religion and things like that on the channel. I think that everyone has an opinion on them and people get honestly heated over topics like these. Anyway, thank you so much for watching. Have a great Friday!

    Looks like an awesome collection, but I own the GA Cap Omni and just purchased Namor's GA Omni and noticed this double dips on the entire first 31 Marvel Mystery Comics issues.. Might pick this up eventually, but for now it's a pass for me.

    • @jpeerson24
      @jpeerson24 5 лет назад

      Im in the same boat. I don't know how much new content I would actually be getting with having the other two omni. Its weird that they would reprint the same material in two different books in the same series

    • @michaelmyers4943
      @michaelmyers4943 5 лет назад

      jpeerson24 Yeah I've been kinda thinking about it and then it kinda hit me that back then comics were more like anthologies so maybe the two omnis will collect different stories pertaining to either namor or kirby/simon stories from each Marvel Mystery issue

    Hey Omar you seem to me to be someone who is careful with his comics. While enjoying your overviews if these books one thing keeps bothering me and that is how you flip the pages in the middle and not at one of the corners. You have a much bigger change of tearing the pages when you flip them in the middle instead of the corner.

    • @NearMintCondition

    Hmmm although this preview looks really really good, I don't know yet if I'm gonna get it. I don't think the concept is as strong as the Everet's Sub Mariner book. Too much forgettable characters. Captain America 1-10 Is great, but already have the 2 books in a slipcase (including the Bucky penis joke), and the 6 Cap GA Masterworks. Enough is enough right? Even if the restoration is better, the stories are not. But if I should decide to get it, I would go for the DM Variant. Excellent preview and scoop Omar, much appreciated! That introduction was terrible. Jim steranko literally shit on both Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. Totally disrespecting joe and Jack in their own book. It’s shameful that he did that in a book ti honor Joe and Jack.
    Also, Jack Kirby didn’t do Trojack. Trojack was just Joe Simon.
    Also. Captain America comics #1’s cover is by Joe Simon and Jack kirby, not just Jack.
