- As a beginner riding BMX working on your bike can be a bit intimidating at first. In this video I’m here to go over how simple the tools needed for working on our bikes can really be as well as let you know which ones are absolutely essential.
Yes I forgot to mention a pump and yes I forgot to mention crank pullers, both of which are very essential!

0:43 I would use the PH-1 P-Handle Hex Wrench Set and just take the 6mm and the 5mm and put in your bag 1:35 i would use 3/8" Drive Ratchet Handle SWR-8 with the SBS-3 Socket and Bit Set with a 3/8" socket extension for my pegs and cranks 2:27 i dont like the CT3.2 its to big to carry around ok for the workshop i like the CT-5 chainbreaker much better i think 3:03 the SW-2 Spoke Wrench fits bmx nipples better i think a nice snug fit not a baggy fit so you dont round off nipples 3:17 i had some TL-1.2 and they bent after some time so i upgraded to the TL-4.2 Tire Lever Set miles better 3:51 iv got the set of MWR spanners but you only need the 17mm and the 15mm and 5:22 if you rock breaks use a 10mm. use a Park Tool BT-2 for your cables to cut inner cable use Park Tool SP-7 Side Cutter Pliers and for the outer cables use park tool CN-10 8:17 i would keep the WAG-4 in the workshop to big to carry around a good tool to get is a TM-1 Spoke Tension Meter to check your spokes tension 9:26 The wheel truing stand i would go for is the TS-4.2 or the TS-2.2P for my workshop (man cave)
Park tools should do a basic BMX kit. That comes in a bag/tool box etc. My dad used to go mad, when I forgot to put his tools back. Still in my back pack etc.

Bruh, air pump. Very essential. When i left my air compressor at my parents' house after moving away, i felt totally screwed without a pump

Imagine the DOH moment when I realized I forgot to mention a pump Tuesday morning after filming and editing this whole thing Monday night by midnight. Hahahaha It was real

@@Brant_Moore if u could do a video on a portable pump I'd appreciate it cause I have been looking for one but they're either too small and take forever to pump a tire, or too big to fit in a backpack
@@bmxscape , the M12 Milwaukee is the truth and fits in a backpack. Dial in the PSI, press start and wait.
That said, I highly recommend a quick clamp adapter, because the end on the Milwaukee is a twisty.
20% crew. My favorite tools from Park are the P handle hex wrenches. I have other favorite tools from Park but they are for non BMX bikes. LOL.
Those are SO nice!! I love using those at Brimstone when I’m working on my bike

a god damn friggin bottom bracket tool even if its a ghetto home made one. hammering in bearings is a waste. buy some threaded rod or get a looseball axle. use some cone spacers for a bb, few extra washers, couple nuts and two adjustable wrenches with some grease.
not the most essential cause you can hammer in a bb but makes a nice difference.

park tools is love. park tools is life. though i hear there are better wheel building/truing stands then theirs, but park tools ones already cost enough.
i know there is a better bike stand for working on bikes, but those are also more expensive and not much better. price to performance. it always wins out.
@@Brant_Moore i just always have to add that one in....ive seen soo many riders murk bearings tapping them in. and they often dont even use the proper technique. wood block over the bearing, preferably with a copper or rubber mallet. wooden block under the other side of the bb shell as well. prevents damage.
ghetto bb tool is deffs the way to go though. cheap AF easily replaceable. portable unlike the park tools ones. only a lil harder to use.
oh btw brant, look for one of the odyssey keychain spoke tools. two sizes built in and has a lil thing on the other end that works with some knarps. not sure if they still make them, got mine as a gift, been so retardedly useful. managed to rip out broken plastic bar ends with it, ghetto fixed my buddies pedal when the nut came loose for the spindle. works as a bottle opener. can work on two different sized spokes. if they dont make it anymore someone should get them to remake it updated with a lil ratcheting end on the non spoke tool side. make the spoke tool side a lil bigger and add the other sizes.

Does Park make a set of long L-shaped ball end hex wrenches? Because, handy as the folding combo tools are, a set of separate onee is, to my mind, item one.

I work on cars, so have a pretty good selection of tools, but am likely going to buy a few BMX specific tools. We just ordered a couple completes, and am looking into what we will need to ay leasy get started, and assemble them. Thinking I will buy the 3-way hex tool, that looks pretty handy. Also going to probably get some chain lube. We will buy others as we get deeper into this, we have no bike shops near us. Will I NEED a pedal wrench right off the bat, or will that just be something handy/needed as we upgrade to different pedals?

If you have a 15mm, that will serve as a pedal wrench. The Park Tool specific one is longer than a wrench and has a better handle so it’s easier to use and might be a good idea at some point but for now a 15mm will suffice
@@Brant_Moore , thanks.... was mainly wondering if a regular thickness wrench wouldn't work... but looking into it , it seems like that depends upon the specific crank/and pedal combination....guessing most completes would have pedals that can be put on with a normal 15mm....
I have a few, even a set of "long pattern" metric wrenches, so have a 15mm that is significantly longer than one from a normal set.... even have a cheap 15mm I can make thinner with the bench grinder if we get in a pinch.
Thinking I am going to buy the Shadow Conspiracy multi tool set, amd probably a few other things, to make a "bike kit" to give my son for his birthday....then later we cam get bike specific tools as needed, like stuff for bottom bracket and crank work, headset, raplacing bent rims on still usable hubs, etc...(truing a wheel looks like it will be a fun thing to learn)... in the meantime I think we will make do with what we have mostly until his birthday.
Anything I should throw into his "kit" for his birthday, besides a tube, Shadow tool, Pump, and patches?

A nice park tool Allen wrench set would definitely be a good one. The AWS-11 has most BMX sizes on it and lasts forever.
Speaking of brakes. Have you covered the different brakes on the market? Been following a few months now so I don't know if you've covered that. Btw, I love my park tools.😁👍

When filming videos alone like this/ vlogging I’d suggest no fisheye/wide angle. Looks better. I watched a few “how to vlog” videos because that’s what I do on my channel mostly, they suggested not doing a fisheye or wide angle. The difference is awesome. Idk.
Do you suggest that because the how to videos told you it’s what’s best or because you’ve compared both and like one better?

Crank puller because whenever I don’t use one my sprocket flys off and chips my paint :(
I realized this morning that I forgot the crank puller!
Crank pullers are a rare use, to some people. I only use them if I get the bike sand blasted painted etc. And a bit of muscle to turn them. Oh a maintenance stand is a must with cranks

One worker says at the wheel mill, if you have to use a hammer to work on your bmx, you probably shouldnt work on your bmx 😂
@@levigrafton6854 very true, and I typically don't, but I think "Destress" is a key word....it applies to all things mechanical at times...lol
