Do we agree the complexity of modern ice vehicles powertrain in order to get any reasonable mpg and emissions is super complex and super complex to repair. Also the ice vehicle business model is based on regular visits to dealership service centers. Do we think that business model is sustainable when buyers want vehicles that just run without need to visit service centers?

@@myusrn Those electric motors are highly specialized to be able to run at such a high power and efficiency, and are powered by very complex electronic circuits that are extremely fragile due to the high voltage and current they must output to those motors. The battery packs are also complex so that all the hundreds of batteries charge evenly, because if one battery fails and reverse charges, it will blow up. Not to mention the computers that run the things. There is nothing simple about an EV.

They're really trying to prove something in their manufacturing by breaking stereotypes and I respect that. They got that efficiency thing going with all their industries, not just EV cars. Given the air pollution issues that use to plague major cities, I see EV cars becoming mainstay vehicles in the country. Still prefer my Subaru though, lol. Scotty's right about read your electric utility's policy for 'buying' your generated electricity BEFORE you planning adding solar and incurring all those costs. Here is SE MN, my utility will only square with your annual consumption at their wholesale cost and reset your electric account each year to 0. So, if you had surplus they restart the counter each year. So, you still pay the utility's base costs, which is a large part of my bill. The only way to possibly make solar work is to disconnect from the utility, so, you're on your own. Re-connection fees must be also considered. They can be quite high. A lot of homework needs to be done and be sure of the costs. Panels are usually rated for 10 years, etc.

They don’t care about patents or copyrights. They send their people to steal semiconductor processes and take them back to China. American and European companies pay extreme R&D costs and have to distribute that cost into the cost of their final product. China on the other hand bypasses the R&D cost by stealing it. I would think twice about what would happen if China stole your business and you didn’t have any recourse.

Retired now but between 2005 to 2015 the prices businesses payed for health insurance premiums went up every year and the co-pay sky rocketing no wonder manufacturing went overseas. If the federal government would fix health care across the board business will be back.

Yeah, many year's ago I worked as a salesman in a Toyota Dealership and I remember that a very young man about 23 wanted to purchase a first generation Toyota Tundra V8. He did came back to the same place 15 years later talk to me and told me I am going to pay cash for a fully loaded Tundra. I said excellent however when he saw the sticker price he almost had a heart attack. He wanted to pay a maximum of 38k but unfortunately the Tundra he specifically wanted was 77k. He was literally crying inside 😭 even though I was now promoted to sales manager I just couldn't lower the price of the Tundra he wanted I even called the owner of the dealer and asked if he could get a large discount the owner said no, no, no, we aren't a charity!! The customer walked away crying 😢 his wifecwas as mad as hell, and I quit working for that mean spirited Dealership. Point of the story is if you're saving money for a new vehicle you must triple the amount of money of what it currently cost new now in order to compete for inflationary prices in the future and an unfortunately that's a fact. 😢😂

Stelantis in USA is cooked! I'd never buy one of their vehicles. Very sad situation. My 1992 Dodge Caravan (5 speed manual) went 225,000 miles in hard service until the head gasket blew. Who would buy a new Jeep these days? Find yourself a better made 20 year old JEEP.

    Adam Smith on Tariffs:
The second case, in which it will generally be advantageous to lay some burden upon foreign for the encouragement of domestic industry is, when some tax is imposed at home upon the produce of the latter. In this case, it does seem reasonable that an equal tax should be imposed upon the like produce of the former.

An appealing concept, and it might have some bite if tariffs were applied at the point where a product is shipped. The reality is the added cost is at the end--where the customer pays for the product, so it is the customer, not the manufacturer nor the nation in which the product is manufactured that pays the added cost.
