- On a glorious sunny day, I start a short cruise to Gayton Junction, where the Grand Union Canal Main Line meets the Northampton Arm of the Grand Union. The trip involves passing through Crick Tunnel, Watford Staircase Locks, bearing eastwards at Norton Junction and negotiating the Buckby Lock Flight. Come and join me and get a sense of what it’s like on a narrowboat passing through a damp dark tunnel and the handsomely designed Watford Locks.
In the video I mentioned Crick Boat Show 2018 and the link to it is here:

I also referred to ‘Blacking’. My boat was blacked in July 2018 including the underside. It’s very interesting to see the boat being lifted by gantry and hoist and moved every which way to get the job done.

Hello, Alan! I'm still working on the most pleasurable task of "catching up" on you many years of narrow boating. I find myself watching with a very big smile on my face. Thank you for your videos. I am very pleased that I have so many more to watch. I hope you are well. All the best, Becky.
Hi Becky, lovely to hear from you. What a task you have, starting so far back. I'm pleased to say the quality of presentation improved, as I got used to talking to camera, as did the video quality, as I invested in better cameras. I'm glad you're enjoying watching the channel, long may it continue. I'm well thank you and hope you are, very best wishes Alan
It was very organized teamwork of the volunteers at the locks. It is such a beautiful spot and I have never seen the locks done descending order thanks for showing us that😊
Thoroughly enjoyable, thanks Alan. And good to see your new cleats (as they were then!) in action! Best regards, Phil
Glad you enjoyed it Phil, all the best Alan.
Another enjoyable vlog. Your saga with installing cleats, and then losing the tool overboard you had to purchase especially for the job, brought back so many fond (?) memories of the trials and tribulation of boat ownership!
Thanks Zach I’m glad you liked it. I started the cleats job without realising I wasn’t fully prepared - but we all do it at some time! Cheers Alan
Nice to see the absolute joy you get from your trips!
Best boatman smile on youtube :)

Just a thought, is it not possible to use fenders when mooring up?
You appear to really enjoy your trips.
Thanks very much David, it’s good to have you aboard. I do use fenders, so am not sure what you’ve spotted. Perhaps for a lunch stop I didn’t. Cheers.
Hi Alan
Enjoyed video very relaxing lovely sunshine , hope you have not got the snow today as it is in nottingham

Thanks Ron. I was lucky with the weather, makes all the difference. This is the first of several about my cruise. No snow here, it’s been raining this morning. Cheers.

Lovely video, I now feel very relaxed. Would love to hear some history of the area, buildings etc.
Thanks very much Robert, glad you enjoyed it. Have you seen my video Canal at Royal Ordnance Depot, which looks around the site and buildings?
i am going the opposite way on 18/3 - up to yardley gobion - 57 locks on my own as a virgin! - havent had to say that in a long time ! - hoping 4 days is long emough to get to my destination
That sounds very ambitious, let’s hope many locks are set in your favour and there are other boaters about to make your journey an easier one. Hope all goes well for you. Cheers. Alan
A great vlog. What month was this in, as it was such nice weather?
Hi Sally. Thanks very much, so glad you liked it. It was just two weeks ago during that sunny spell. I was really lucky with the weather. Look out for subsequent episodes!
