  • I set off from Yelvertoft late one afternoon on my long-awaited journey to the Ashby Canal, which has 22 miles of lock free cruising. On the first day, I moor up near Watford Locks ready to descend in the morning when the locks open at the later time of 10.00am due to restricted operating hours, whilst water levels are low. I cruise down to Norton Junction and through Braunston Tunnel and then have a snatched lunch.

    The scenery is beautiful and the donkey was so cute. Good job you have a good hooter is all I can say. You made me laugh when you said the 'front of the boat is in and I'm just about to join it'. Thanks Linda, I remember the donkey now. The tunnels aren’t too bad actually, probably nice to have company when you go through. Good though undercover, if it’s raining but some are rather drippy.

      @@MyNarrowboatVenture Yes I agree about the company. It must take a lot of concentration in the narrow tunnels so you don't hit the sides. You can't see very well .

    Lovely video Alan...so nice to see the Braunston tunnel with someone else at the tiller for a change..! I hate that tunnel...always so relieved to come out at the other end...we usually chicken out and go through very early in the morning and hopefully avoid on coming traffic..! Such a shame about the pillock that hit you under the bridge...why people can’t slow down at bridg s I’ll never know. Really looking forward to the next vlog...cheers🍷🍷

    I think you found out why boats moor overnight before bridge 8 at the top of Watford flight, it avoids the noise from the M1.

    • @MyNarrowboatVenture
      @MyNarrowboatVenture  4 года назад

      Hi Richard. There’s some good mooring between bridges 8 and 9 especially to catch the evening sun. The motorway noise doesn’t bother me in the boat and I wanted to do some filming of the Locks. You may not be aware that I am a volunteer lockie there. Cheers

    Hi Alan, I heard you say it was misty and hard to see Braunston tunnel. Firstly can I ask are you using New LED front lamp? These are alot brighter and low energy
    Also Braunston tunnel can take a time to clear diesel fumes from other boats that have passed through, even upto an hour later.
    Keep up the good work on the vlogs 👍👍👍

    • @MyNarrowboatVenture
      @MyNarrowboatVenture  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Mark - My headlamp is a Ring square section lamp, it suits me, so have not considered changing it. Lights on some boats are too bright for boats crossing each other. I don’t think Braunston was misty through diesel fumes as there was no smell but good point. Went through Husbands Bosworth Tunnel today and that was misty, which didn’t impair visibility. There was a boat a long way ahead of me, so could have been fumes but again no smell. Take care.

    • @MyNarrowboatVenture

      Hi Carole the reservoirs that feed the canals are low and every time a lock is operated there is a loss of water, hence the restrictions.

    Hi alan,question,l would like to know,,how long could you run your narrowboat electrical appliance,also the lights,on a fully charged battery
    Pack,without using the alteator and solar panels,is it possible the batteries could last up to one week or more,before thay need recharging,

    • @MyNarrowboatVenture
      @MyNarrowboatVenture  5 лет назад

      Hi Anthony I’m not the best person to ask this question to. Every boat and appliances are different. I run the engine periodically when I stop cruising. At present I have no battery management system. I don’t think the batteries would last long if not being charged.
