  • Having moored adjacent to the former Rugby to Stamford Railway line, established in 1850, I go for a walk along the track bed and mention Dr Richard Beeching, who became known as the ‘Axeman’ for his report published in 1963 entitled ‘The Reshaping of British Railways’, which resulted in the closure of over 2300 stations and the eventual loss of about 6000 rail miles.

    Hi everyone, I’m sorry for any interference you might hear, it’s the wireless microphone, I presume it’s to do with the mic bouncing as I walk. Seems ok otherwise. Cheers Alan

      It sounds a bit muffled. Do you have wind noise reduction turned on by mistake? Or is your microphone somewhere under your coat?
      Still, I enjoyed your video.
      By for now...... 👋❤

      @@IJ_ukIt was attached to my coat. The interference isn’t audible on my video, but can be picked up with ear pieces. You Tube have somehow enhanced it. Annoying isn’t it! Glad you enjoyed anyway. Cheers

    Evening Alan, that was a most enjoyable walk. It never ceases to amaze me how much history lies within such a very short distance of the canals, and your video really highlights that so well....such a fascinating story that most don't realise is there....many thanks for sharing 🍷🍷

      Evening Steve, glad you enjoyed it. As we know, many railways were built close or alongside canals as the ground was relatively level. This one virtually touches the canal, where I filmed. Thanks for commenting, cheers🥂

    Hi Alan, thanks for going off the beaten track to show us the railway heritage. You often see little paths leading away from the canal but have no idea what they lead to. I enjoyed seeing the old photos of the stations on the line, thanks 👍

      Sorry for the late reply Paul. I’m glad you enjoyed this episode, as I do try and give variety but this type of heritage doesn’t have a great appeal unfortunately. All the best.

    Hiya Alan. Consider buying yourself a walking stick t use when going over such difficult pathways. As my daughter pointed out, "It's much easier to learn to walk with a stick BEFORE you have a fall, than afterwards!" Good Luck!

    Hello Alan and Sally and Reggie. I’ve grown up in and around Chicago, Illinois, a railroad center in the middle of the US. When I hear train whistle at night always wonder where the train is going. Lovely sound of home for me. Thank you for sharing your trip with us

      @MyNarrowboatVenture  Месяц назад

      Hi Ginger. I’m much the same. I lived just outside London when I was young and although the station was about half a mile away, I could hear whistles in the night, a very comforting sound. All the best.

    Hi Alan, My Aunt and Uncle live in the farm house opposite Theddingworth station and the trackbed opposite the station is their farm drive with buildings either side of the trackbed towards Lubenham. Just past their farm along the track is where The Great Train Robbery was filmed shortly after the line closed to all traffic. There’s a photo online somewhere. I’ve walked the line a few times and thoroughly enjoy it. Thanks for another great video. Davey, Leicestershire 👍🏻

    Watching after Crick tut tut.
    Hope you and Sally are well.
    Mothballing the railway line cuts for the future I am guessing was not a financial option back then.
    Listening to Mick Lynch on the Labour proposal to re-nationalise the railways again was enlightening. Since I believe that a nation's essential services should remain in public ownership and not privately owned.
    I can just imagine a tank engine pulling 2/3 coaches across the beautiful countryside you've just walked back in the day.
    Thanks very much for your time and efforts to produce your vlogs Alan.

    • @MyNarrowboatVenture
      @MyNarrowboatVenture  Месяц назад

      Hi David, no alternatives were considered, no planning for the future, if a line lost money it was closed, very backward thinking then. Should have had an eye to the future and preserving track beds. I agree with you about public ownership. Thanks for your appreciation.

    Interesting vlog, we do love walking old railway lines!! Alan, a new channel has launched on YT which is all about the history of abandoned lines involving a chap who walks, talks and points out any evidence like tracks or machinery abandoned... its called Tracing the Rails
    There is only 1 vlog made recently about the old Shoreham line which is now the downs link in west sussex, we think you would find it very interesting to watch! Xxx

      @@philipjones9458 Hi Philip, it’s the wireless microphone, I presume it’s to do with the mic bouncing as I walk, rather than the receiver. When I'm still, it's ok. I was aware of it, but it seemed worse through headphones and less noticeable otherwise. I remember listening to some of my videos at my brother's home. He is into surround TV and depending on what setting was used, it was either good or awful. I’m still trying to work out how best to use wireless mics, I already have three different sets but they all have issues. Cheers
