I read this article that really opened my eyes to the ordination of the apostles. Can't postlinks, but this is the title and author of the article. There is a parallel between Aaron's ordination and the washing of the apostles feet. I can't recall where I heard this, but someone said that ordination means they received an order and that order was when Christ said, "*Do this* in memorial offering of me." I wonder sometimes how much the obedience of Jesus plays a bigger role in our salvation than His suffering. I don't think God's wrath was appeased by Jesus being beaten to a pulp; an innocent man suffering an unjust judgement; but that through all that, Jesus remained obedient, did not murmur against God for allowing this to happen to Him, and in fact prayed for His persecuters in the midst of great pain and humiliation, and loved us to His death.
Interesting thought. As you might know, there are different models of making sense of the atoning work of Christ throughout history. I would want to consult the wisdom of the Church before offering many thoughts, but I don't think it's an either/or. Unfortunately, as a Protestant, I would usually only focus on the legal aspect, which as you point out isn't the only element! Thanks for watching!

Hello Roger, thanks for this new brilliant video. Tell me if you think what I am about to say is wrong but I've always considered the POV of our protestant brothers about the real presence of the Lord in the Eucharist and their cynical comments about it ( which go like "the priest does his wololo and poof Christ is there") to be completely blasphemous in the sense that it puts limits to the power of God Himself. I mean, what could stop the Lord to put His power between the hands of a mere mortal if He'd wanted to ? They remind me of muslims who say that God CAN'T have a son as if an omnipotent being could not... Anyway, God bless you.
Hmmm. That's an interesting thought. I suppose, to put myself in a Protestant mindset, they could say that they're not saying God can't do it, but that He didn't. Pastor Larry, thanks for taking the time to watch the video. While you are correct, of course, that the Apostles held a unique place in the Church, (not all priests are Apostles, certainly), Peter explicitly says that he too was a presbyter. "Now as an elder [presbyteros] myself..." I Peter 5:1. Peter and the Apostles were priests. I doubt Peter wore the same vestments priests today wear, but he had a priestly function. While Peter explicitly states this, he didn't have to for us to know this. As discussed in the video, and as you might be aware, the Lord most *definitely* left us with a sacrificial meal. When the Lord said to do this in "remembrance" of Him, the word used is "anamnesis," which is the precise word used for the memorial bread offering in Leviticus 24:7! (Septuagint) The Eucharist is an offering in the priestly sense (literally), and the Apostles were told to administer it in the priestly sense, in obedience to our High Priest. An offering for which I'm deeply grateful! I hope you have a great day! Thanks for spending your time ministering to others, and telling people about the Lord. -Roger
The offices were more fluid in the early church with guys wearing multiple hats, so to speak. 😇 However, two passages of scripture show that Jesus instituted a ministerial priesthood to continue His work on earth. First, during the Last Supper, Jesus instructed His apostles to "do this in memory of me," referring to the celebration of the Eucharist in which bread and wine become the body and blood of Jesus (cf. Jn 6:35-69). Jesus' directive to "do this" necessitated that the Apostles be granted the authority to carry out the rite or duty just commanded. Therefore, Jesus conferred authority upon the Apostles, ordaining them for this purpose. Second, in John 20:21-23, after His resurrection, Jesus appears to His disciples and says, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven." In this passage, Jesus grants His apostles the authority to forgive sins, thereby establishing the sacrament of reconciliation. This offers insight to Matthew 9:8 which says that God had given the authority to forgive sins “to men” (plural) - not just to one man, Jesus. Matthew understood this because, as an Apostle ordained by Jesus, he had been forgiving sins in the name of Jesus for decades by the time he wrote his gospel. These two examples illustrate the institution of the ministerial priesthood and the sacraments which they perform in continuing the priesthood of Jesus on earth.
A Priest is (one who offers sacrifice) in the OT. The Apostles at the last supper were taught by Christ how “to do” to offer HIS body as a memorial offering to God by changing ordinary bread and wine into his body and blood. The original word written by John is anamasis (to make present a past event). Hope this helps you understand. God bless you!
NOPE 1 Pete 2:9. But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Even means WOMEN 1 Timothy 3:2 “A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviors, given to hospitality, apt to teach;”
Matthew, yes. If I recall, I Peter 2 was addressed in the video. St. Peter here is quoting the Hebrew Bible (see Exodus 19:6, for example). Israel, in the Old Covenant, was a kingdom of priests. And yet, they also had a vocational priesthood! The priesthood of every believer is valid, as is the vocational priesthood. The same is true in the New Covenant Christ established. I Peter 2 is an excellent passage, but as discussed in the video, does nothing to take away from the priesthood Christ established. I appreciate you taking time to watch! Have a blessed day.
Apostles and the priests also are the followers of Christ, we are all the followers of CHRIST that is why we are called CHRISTIANS, so there is no difference. If we make it different we are not the followers of CHRIST because our Lord Jesus Christ already told to HIS APOSTLES AND HIS DISCIPLES in :- Mark 4:11-12 - And Jesus said to HIS APOSTLES "to you has been given the secret of the Kingdom of GOD but for those outside everything is in parables; so that they may indeed see but not perceive and may indeed hear but not understand lest they should turn again and be forgiven". Mathew 13:17 - our Lord Jesus Christ told to HIS APOSTLES "truly I say to you many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see and did not see it and hear what you hear and did not hear it". Luke 8:18 - Jesus say "take heed then how you hear; for to him who has will more be given and from him who has not, even what he thinks that he has, will be taken away". Luke 10:21 - our Lord Jesus Christ rejoiced in the HOLY SPIRIT and said "I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth that thou hast hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes; yea, Father, for such was thy gracious will". Luke 10:22 - Jesus say "all things have been delivered to Me by My Father and no one knows who the Son is except the Father or who Father is except the Son and any one to whom THE SON CHOOSES TO REVEAL HIM". John 8:51 - Jesus say "truly truly, I say to you, if any one keeps My Word, he will never see death".
@@marymargarette4289 True but the Apostles had a different office for the New Testament than the priests did for the Old Testament. The need for priests is over because of the Sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross. The letter to the Hebrews explains this very clearly. We have direct access to God both for prayers and for forgiveness.
@@pastorlarry1950 where is it in the bible that the Apostles had different office for the New Testament than the priests did for the Old Testament? And where is in the Bible that the need for priests is over?
@@marymargarette4289 The priests of the old Testament brought sacrifices and offerings before the Ark and in the Temple. These sacrifices were to show that blood was necessary to forgive (atone for) sin. The sacrifices were pointing to Jesus who gave Himself (as opposed to a lamb or other animal) for forgiveness (removal of punishment) for sin. The Apostles did not offer any sacrifices and were called and appointed to preach about Jesus and His Sacrifice. Try these verses from Hebrews Chapter 7 and read the whole chapter for context. Hebrews 7:11The people were given the law under the system of priests from the tribe of Levi. But no one could be made spiritually perfect through that system of priests. So there was a need for another priest to come. I mean a priest like Melchizedek, not Aaron. Hebrews 7:12And when a different kind of priest comes, then the law must be changed too. Hebrews 7:13We are talking about our Lord Christ, who belonged to a different tribe. No one from that tribe ever served as a priest at the altar. It is clear that Christ came from the tribe of Judah. And Moses said nothing about priests belonging to that tribe. Hebrews 7:15And these things become even clearer when we see that another priest has come who is like Melchizedek. Hebrews 7:16He was made a priest, but not because he met the requirement of being born into the right family. He became a priest by the power of a life that will never end. Hebrews 7:17This is what the Scriptures say about him: "You are a priest forever-the kind of priest Melchizedek was." Hebrews 7:18The old rule is now ended because it was weak and worthless. Notice verse 18.
Heb 10:10 Jesus Christ did the things God wanted him to do. And because of that, we are made holy through the sacrifice of Christ's body. Christ made that sacrifice one time-enough for all time.
The scriptures state that the Church is the pillar and foundation of truth. I must have missed the verse where it said "until the reformation happens, then everyone can go off and define the truth by their own standards." This is of course the same Church that established the biblical cannon which baptists have made an idol of. Maybe you guys think that God just messed up the first 1600 years of His Church perhaps? No good my man. Protestantism really is just a basket of rotten fruit. I pray you turn away from your apostasy and join Christ's singular body in the Holy Orthodox Church. The door is always open

Where is "Sola Scriptura" in the Bible?
I haven't found it yet.
The twelve were not priests they were Apostles, a very different office in the church.
(Septuagint)
The Eucharist is an offering in the priestly sense (literally), and the Apostles were told to administer it in the priestly sense, in obedience to our High Priest.
An offering for which I'm deeply grateful!
I hope you have a great day! Thanks for spending your time ministering to others, and telling people about the Lord.

The offices were more fluid in the early church with guys wearing multiple hats, so to speak. 😇
However, two passages of scripture show that Jesus instituted a ministerial priesthood to continue His work on earth.
Even means WOMEN
1 Timothy 3:2
“A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviors, given to hospitality, apt to teach;”
The 70 were appointed as Judges by Moses. The 70 appointed by Jesus were to prepare His way and preach the Gospel. None were priests.
Apostles and the priests also are the followers of Christ, we are all the followers of CHRIST that is why we are called CHRISTIANS, so there is no difference. If we make it different we are not the followers of CHRIST because our Lord Jesus Christ already told to HIS APOSTLES AND HIS DISCIPLES in :-
Mark 4:11-12 - And Jesus said to HIS APOSTLES "to you has been given the secret of the Kingdom of GOD but for those outside everything is in parables; so that they may indeed see but not perceive and may indeed hear but not understand lest they should turn again and be forgiven".
Hebrews 7:17This is what the Scriptures say about him: "You are a priest forever-the kind of priest Melchizedek was."
Hebrews 7:18The old rule is now ended because it was weak and worthless.
It's difficult to tell whether or not you watched very much of the video.
