Mary Chapin Carpenter, Emmylou Harris, Kathy Mattea, Suzy Boggus, Trisha Yearwood, Pam Tillis and Patty Loveless all on the same stage. In my opinion the ladies of that era were some of the best country artists of all time and will never be repeated again.
Wow such a great group of powerful female country singers. I don't recall any of these women complaining about a glass ceiling. That's because they are so talented and capable that they shattered it.
Simply one of the greatest moments in country music in the '90s. Great singer, great song, an all-star backing band and a dream choir of backing vocalists. Thank you for sharing this.
This song becomes almost magical during the later stages of the chorus with Mary and the separate harmonies of the six merging into a perfect rainbow . This was an epic performance.
@@thememo9941 sometimes, divorce is best for the kids. Especially if there's disharmony and tension between the parents... I had to make the difficult decision when my children were young... Their father was emotionally and mentally abusive towards me, as our eldest got a bit older, he turned it toward him.
The 90's country will always be the best era of country music. You had Reba, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Brooks & Dunn, Alabama, Alan Jackson, all the ladies in the video above, Vince Gill, and so on. Literally THE BEST ERA!!!!!!!!!!! EVER!!!!!!
Even as a regular guy, this song chokes me up. It brings to mind, a time in the past, when things felt better. However, that's not what it's about. The royalty, of country music women, telling the truth. I have to bow my head when Chapin walks out with her guitar, to a standing ovation. Never forget.
Allison Tate A lot of it is so close to pop now I think. These songs are classics that everyone just loves to listen to even close to 30 years later. Songs today don't last on the radio a month before the next cookie cutter song is out to replace it. Don't get me wrong, I love to jam to today's country just like everyone else, but few songs today will even join the same league to classics like this. :)
I'm just now listening to country music my husband and I made a deal I give country a chance since I am a ac/dc led zeppelin black sabbath 1980's kinda gal!! i do love willie nelson waylon jennings
It's a shame that you don't hear anything from Mary Chapin Carpenter, Kathy Mattea, Suzy Bogguss,or Wynonna on the radio much anymore these days. We need to bring the music of the 80's and 90's back!
Wonderful! In the 90's we also had Faith Hill, Shania, Martina McBride, Deana Carter, Terri Clark, LeAnn Rimes, Sara Evans, and no doubt several other lovely young singers that I can't think of right now. Who would have believed Country Music would fall so far after that?
countrygirl country musiclover you're right most of the time lil country girl but I am forced to disagree today's country music just isn't like it used to be but what is?? Peace lil.lady!!!!!!!
All these new "country girls" should be paying homage to these "COUNTRY WOMEN". They are able to do what they do and be where they are because of these incredibly talented women!!
I finally had the opportunity to meet my favorite female country singer of the 80’s and 90s, and my crush. It was Christmas time near Kerrville, Texas in 2012, Suzy Bogguss. She was so down to earth, so personable, such a wonderful lady, a beautiful person and very likable soul. I had my picture taken with her after her concert. We talked for half an hour. She told me that she had never met a man with my name, she told me she loved my name and she would always remember it. She actually kissed me on my lips and I about passed out. A dream come true.....now I can die happy and fulfilled.😘💋🥰
Lucky, I met her a couple yrs ago. I told her I used to have a crush on her. She said, Were you even born yet?" I said yeah. Her husband was taking the picture so no peck for me.
Mary Chapin Carpenter must be among the best songwriters across any genre ever and this is a brilliant song. What a backing group. Would have loved to have been there. I’m still listening to music by all these wonderful ladies in 2020.💚❤️
WHT ever happened to country music like this. Every single one of these ladies i grew up with listening to their music thanks to my dad. This is the music i refuse to let go of
@Leo Peridot Erm...Kris Kristofferson attended Oxford University on a Rhodes Scholarship. That said, country music artists (for the most part) know on which side their bread is buttered and will aim for as wide an audience as possible. Back in the 90s the politics were much more civilized and positions much more fluid than they are now. Country music also enjoyed probably its greatest crossover appeal, particularly among women.
Believe it or not this song and video helped me leave my no good abusive husband after 20 years ... it just spoke to me ... and exactly describes how it was all that time ... now I'm with a REAL man and couldn't be happier ... thank you Mary Chapin Carpenter!
I'm glad you left AND found a real man. Too many women left their husband after hearing this song and simply traded one type of difficulty for another.
Unbelievable!! What just happened?!? My mind is blown by the talent on that stage!! Suzy Bogus!! Pam Tillis?! This music transports me to a simpler time. A time of answering machines, mix tapes, video stores, and penny candy.......and my first kiss.....Lmao! The feeling I get from 90s country is hard to describe. It's like magic.
Country isn't what it used to be. I grew up in the 90's when country like this ruled the airwaves. Today's Country isnt even close to this! I'd rather listen to country from the 90's as opposed to today. This one hits the nail on the head, as it was also one of my favorites by her. These women left their mark on country-now hopefully it will not get eroded.
Back in December 1993 this song caused a lot of wives to say "There has to be changes in how things are." One of them told me to either get my boyfriend to change or I should leave. After three months of watching the changes that were happening in her life and the changes that weren't happening in mine, I decided she was right. The fact I'd met a pleasant, friendly man who was willing to discuss the lyrics with me instead of talking about how hot the women might have factored into the decision, LOL!
I'm 4 years late but I grew up with this music also. Early 90's with the 94.9 WQMX radio station. Brings back so many memories when I was a carefree kid lol I'm 32 now... Miss those days!
A lot of people say Mary Chapin Carpenter is underrated and I'd be inclined to agree with them. But when you have a who's who of female country artists on stage singing back up for you that shows you have the respect of your fellow artists and that's a very big deal to say the least.
So much “big hair” on stage at once, but all wonderful performers in their own right doing a great back up job. Great song by Mary as usual. Stay safe and keep doing what you’re doing. From the land down under. 🦘🦘🦘
Mary Chapin Carpenter. Burned as one of the brightest stars in the early 90's of country music female vocalists. 4 consectutive Grammy awards for best Female Vocalist of the Year, 92,93,94,95. Two time CMA award for Best Female Vocalist 92,93. Alas, didn't last long enough in the spotlight. It's shame. She was such a talented singer/songwriter.
I had the privilege of seeing MCC when she released “C’mon, C’mon” about 1993. It may still be my favorite concert ever with a solo female artist and that album has nary a poor song on it. “Passionate Kisses”, “ He Thinks He’ll Keep Her”, “ I Feel Lucky”, “Only a Dream”, “I Am a Town”, “ I Take My Chances” and the title song..... it was a warm summer night in Philly and Chapin was at the top of her game along with the late John Jennings. I remember that show because my wife hadn’t really been exposed to her music prior, and she left a certified fan. What I remember most is the way she reduced me to tears twice during the show - when telling the story that eventually evolved into “Only a Dream” and then when she closed with “C’mon, C’mon” - one of the most poignant stories about love and loss ever put on vinyl. She had a really good run in the ‘90s and I still listen to her now. Thank you, Chapin..... gotta love a Jersey Girl.
I just listened to this for the thirtysomethingmillionth time.....and that grit and growl from MCC, plus that choir of angels behind her, and the jingle jangle of the Rickenbacker and the guys in the band.......Oh my God!! This is the stuff that puts goosebumps on your goosebumps! Why oh why are fabulously talented women like this absolutely invisible today? The thrill is NOT gone. It's just moved on over to RUclips, I guess.
The best womans song in history? Why do you think I am here. It is so moving I even attempt to to singalong, but It breaks me up. But I still I try. I love it. Dave in Sierra Vista AZ.
Her dad is looking down with a giant smile on his face !! When I first heard this song I knew it would have staying power, I was totally right !! Such a group of talented women singing in this great song !!
SUPERB. Great song, great band. They lay down a really solid groove that just drives the song hard without making it "heavy". And that army of "backup" singers (all of who are lead singers!) and one simply magical element: Carpenter's unbridled joy at being up there delivering that song. You can see it on her face. She is just so happy to be singing.
Here's what kills me...These were arguably the biggest names in Country Music in the early 90's, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Patty Loveless, Kathy Mattea, Suzy Bogguss, Trisha Yearwood, Emmylou Harris and Pam Tillis, The Country Music Industry pretty much shut them all out when they felt they were no longer profitable. Agreed. Will also add that these ladies owe their success to the groundwork laid by Highway 101 and Paulette Carlson ...
Agreed 100% 👍
I love all these women.
Who cares who is considered a country or not? Fantastic song writing and amazing performance.
Never heard of all those ladies
7 angels singing together. Man 90's country was on a different level
Sure is crap today
No joke!! Way way better than the crap these days.
Wow such a great group of powerful female country singers. I don't recall any of these women complaining about a glass ceiling. That's because they are so talented and capable that they shattered it.
One of the most underrated country female singers. The amount of talent on that stage is immeasurable.
On stage right there are arguably the best female country singers of their time, if not all time!!!
Only one missing is Martina,
Kim Ritchie is missing.
Who's listening in 2024?
real country music, too bad it doesn't exist anymore
Simply one of the greatest moments in country music in the '90s. Great singer, great song, an all-star backing band and a dream choir of backing vocalists. Thank you for sharing this.
Mary Chapin Carpinter, one of the most under appreciated female singers to ever grace the stage with her incredible talent.
Agreed....an awesome songwriter too
This song becomes almost magical during the later stages of the chorus with Mary and the separate harmonies of the six merging into a perfect rainbow . This was an epic performance.
Yeah, divorce is wonderful for kids \sarc
Yeah, the all star backing band ain’t bad either.

The "Billion Dollar" female band! Never again will it be duplicated!

Damn! The divas of 90's country music. What a beautiful sight!
Almost all of the Country Music Divas in one song. Awesome!!!
Patty Loveless - by far the most talent, class and what a FOX !
