  • Harris Heller of Alpha Gaming once spoke of the perfect camera all streamers would buy. Power and clean 1080p 60fps through USB3 or USB-C while allowing for interchangeable lenses - the dream camera of the future. I was searching through DSLR s and mirrorless cameras and came across the Panasonic Lumix G9: Advertising active power, control, and video output through USB-C, it seemed too good to be true. With this setup, you wouldn't need an Elgato Camlink and you wouldn't need a dummy battery.
    Well, it was too good to be true. But it's still pretty cool. Let's take a closer look.

    So, some more advanced differences between the G9 and the GH5, in case you're more than a streamer:
    You can adjust the shutter by angle on the GH5, which means you don't have to adjust the shutterspeed every time you adjust framerate
    There are far more recording options on the GH5, including more options for slow-mo, cinema 4k, and HDR
    The GH5 has a better rear LCD while the G9 has a better viewfinder
    Worth noting that the G9's time limit is 10 minutes at 4k60
    The GH5 is slightly heavier which will help with stabilization but the G9 has an ever so slightly better stabilizer to make up for it
    The G9 I believe has a huge high-res photo mode it does by moving the sensor around and taking multiple photos and combining them, but this requires a still target and a tripod like a long exposure
    Generally my recommendation is: if you're doing a lot of photography, stills, and long exposures, with the occasional wedding shoot and video on the side, and want to stream every once in a while, the G9 is hard to beat; if you want to do a lot of professional videography, youtube videos, music videos, and beautiful streams with maximum control, with the occasional photoshoot for you kid's senior photos or something, the GH5 is simply unbeatable and can be found used for about the same prices as a new G9 and is worth every penny 😄
    I hope whatever you decide that you take the time to support the channel by using the affiliate amazon links in the description of this video, which will send a commission my way at no extra charge to you 😄 it's hard to go wrong with either camera!

    Every single live video "feature" of the G9 is frustrating. Fighting dirty HDMI, menu sections mysteriously disabled, battery dies while on USB, dumb old-style USB, flippy display must be off to work. Everything goes back to frustration mode when the camera is turned back on. I hate my G9.

    Hi, thanks for the video! On the other hand I have a problem with the G9, after a while (short), the camera turns off telling me that the camera is overheating. How should I do ?

    • @TheNeatwork
      @TheNeatwork  2 года назад +1

      This is a common problem for cameras that are geared toward photo and not video. The GH5 being a video camera weighs almost as much as a full-frame camera because it contains a huge fan to keep it from overheating. Unfortunately for the G9, you'd have to find some way to keep it cool or upgrade to a video-focused camera.

    Is it a 30 minute shut-off for power, or just for actually recording the footage? For example, I could use it as a webcam without ever pressing the record button, and just feeding the HDMI feed.

    • @TheNeatwork
      @TheNeatwork  3 года назад

      Correct! The 5 hour time limit is just the record time. Would make as good a webcam as the G7! Just... for twice the price

  • @joshharvey7427
    @joshharvey7427 4 года назад +1

    Is the 30-minute time-limit just for internally recording? Or if I stream, will it not shut off? Trying to decide if I want this or the GH5?

    • @TheNeatwork
      @TheNeatwork  4 года назад

      Hey Josh; the G9's time limit is in fact only for internally recording. It won't shut off in the middle of your stream (as long as you buy a dummy battery).
      However, if you aren't interested in the additional features of the G9/GH5, like the image stabilization and 4k recording, which are useful for videography but not for streaming, there isn't much justification for the G9 or the GH5 over the G7.
      And that's coming from someone who would benefit from you buying the most expensive camera from my affiliate links! 😉
