This battery is lower in price than the budget server rack battery if you include the cost of the rack ($279 per kWh VS $283 per kWh) . Two of those batteries would power my house for more than a day by themselves. No solar panels needed I live next to the ocean in South Florida.... I've looked it up before and they claim we get 6 hours of sunlight when it comes to solar panels, but I don't know how that works because it's sunny from 7:00 in the morning until 8:30 p.m. everyday in the summer so I would think you'd have to get more than 6 hours of solar panel. Maybe only 100% output for 6 hours? But my house uses 21 kW hours a day That's with two air conditioners. A hot water heater, two fridge and freezers, microwave, oven, lights, TVs computers
@@WillProwse EG4 needs to get their rack certified. We put it on a plan set and the county rejected it in South Carolina. Had to switch to a Ready Rack to get the permit approved.
Yes, and it comes at a great cost. I went through four different chargeverter 5000 units before I got to their second version where they fixed most of the initial bugs. There were so many things wrong with the initial units that never should have left the prototype bench, but they were still selling them to clear out inventory before they got the better units in stock.
I built 2 batteries for my RV with EVE LF280K cells. Custom 3D printed cases with a JBD 200 Amp Smart BMS. I am currently building 2 more and they will have heating pads built in (will redo the first 2 to add the heating pads when we get back from the NASCAR race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway). So, my RV will have the same capacity as that battery, 14.3KWatt Hours. Have a 3,200 Watt inverter hard-wired into my RVs power cord storage compartment so I can plug it in and easily run one roof AC all day while we are driving. Have three 200 watt solar panels that I need to mount before we head to Vegas. Will be nice to only pull about 70 Amps from the battery during the heat of the day while running the AC unit and the fridge. Have learned so much watching your videos. Definitely have helped me in my builds.
I hope this battery works out because it is kind of what I've been waiting for...something more affordable than the server rack batteries and easily connected.
What makes us love Will & his channel is 8:36 “We did it, it works”…… Suspense, ups, downs, around and around then 9:10 hooks 🪝 us with “ And it’s working it actually updated” Great video this appears to be a superior product.
I just had an EG4 18kPV with 6 EG4 LL (v.2) 48V batteries installed along with my solar panel ground mount system and I ran into the exact same issue with the communications between the inverter and batteries. The installer couldn't figure it out right away and suggested that I contact Signature Solar. I was able to figure out the issue after watching a RUclips video about the problem and everything worked just fine. The day with the EG4 LL batteries was to temporarily switch the ID # from 1 to 64, then turn the battery off and then back on (including the breaker) and then push in the third button for 5 seconds to get the protocol switched over to Lux. After doing that you switch it back to ID# 1 and it works. I totally agree that a quick guide would make life simpler for users and yes, it was a pain in the butt. TGYT (Thank God for RUclips)..
I just purchased the EG4 3K and two EG4 LL batteries, based on your "Hand Truck" project. I'm don't have any intelligence when it comes to electric stuff, but both of your hand truck videos seems to make it simple enough that I might just be able to pull it off. Thank you.
I purchased an electric chain hoist, similar to what Vevor now offers for 300 pound capacity, and 250 watt, 110vac. I wanted a bit more factor of safety, and off the shelf reeved lower hooks were not available, so I took a side grinder to a rope pulley sheave, and made a reeved lower hook to double the lift capacity. I then replaced the chain for a longer 4mm chain and now have a 500 pound capacity, 10' lift chain hoist that I can run off of the Bluetti EB3A. And it was less than $200.
Geez, I finally pulled the trigger and purchased six server rack batteries from SS and are currently en route. Now this... Gotta love technology! This next generation battery is awesome and I love how all this is headed.
😂me too! I have them in the box in my garage ready to install and then I get an email about this battery. I ran to RUclips and sus enough Will just posted about it. I'm about to return my 3 server rack batt and get two of these!
Same here, batteries in garage still in box. Took over a month to get the server rack. Solar panels just going up next week. Oh well, not a huge difference in performance and price I don't think, and a little easier to move around and replace if needed.
I just canceled my SS server rack order two weeks ago and very happy I did so I can pull the trigger on this 280ah battery plus the 6.5 controller and more solar panels.
I like it a lot. My concern with these big batteries vs. server rack is that IF they fail, you are out 1) a lot of money, 2) a huge battery to be hefted and shipped 3) a Huge portion of your battery capacity is offline. Having a bunch of smaller server racks seems a lot more practical for DIYers for whom this kind of battery is marketed.
Old packs including Tesla power walls are going to have welded cells except for SOK. And imagine replacing one of those 😂 at least this one you can actually disconnect and ship out. Cant do that with the AC coupled packs very easily. I should make a video about that
You should also buy two computers and two cellphones because you are depending on a single device. Need to buy 2 or 3 of everything, so you have redundancy
No need to actually lift it to the wall - it's designed to be supported by the floor and mount to the wall. Also you can run the EG4 18kPV inverter with a single battery by simply setting your settings internally to limit to
I like this! I've really had reservations of putting all the solar equipment in my attached garage but this outdoor rated equipment will fit nicely in my detached carport utility room.
Good for a home installation, personally I am sticking with my own build which is about 40% less in cost for same power specs, not as pretty but certainly more transportable and serviceable!
Will… your videos are great! Greetings from Newfoundland, Canada. Please don’t suggest that you can mount the batteries any closer than the 12” suggested spacing. There’s a very good reason for access to the breakers on the side of the modules and they should never be covered nor the access limited. Keep up the great work.
What a slick battery! This seems much more efficient over a rack with less components in addition to more direct power bussing from cell to cell. Having twice the current capability to boot..I am sold!
Your videos are top notch. I've built an entire system for my RV and Im almost complete with my small home in Arizona. I just need more batteries. The wife and I are in savings mode. The economy has left us struggling.
Just received my 18k bundle from Signature Solar. Someone needs to put a few sets of blocks in the break room in the shipping department. The way the boxes were stacked on the half pallet they used it never should have been shipped. Everything arrived in good shape even though a forklift had done some pretty serious damage to a couple of battery boxes. Each battery was very well packed in the box and the driver helped break down the pallet and we both inspected everything. All my contact with Signature Solar has been great and I can't wait for my server rack to ship so I can hook everything up. This new battery looks like it may be a good addition to the system if it passes the Will test.
This is neat, and I'm glad it'll be part of their line up, I'm glad to see signature solar is not sitting idle, but I think I like the ~100lbs rack mount batteries where they are a bit easier to move individually... combined with any possible failure, you wouldn't be out almost 15kwh of your power storage all in one go.
I totally understand your point! It's great to have options when it comes to power storage. The Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series might interest you as it offers a flexible design with a capacity range of 1kWh - 5kWh, making it easier to move individually. Plus, with its durable and waterproof design, it's perfect for outdoor adventures. It's worth checking out if you value convenience and reliability. Happy camping!

Very interesting. I was just at signature solar talking to them about the A/C. It is too late today to go back. I will be back Monday to talk about this also. Will you do damn good work very informational videos. Have a super blessed weekend.
I'm installing my SOK rack batteries today with a 15k solark and am a bit bummed I didn't get these. Mine is in a pumphouse and I ended up building a wall around the pressure tanks in case of a pipe break... these seem piece of cake to get going. $8k for 28kw of power, that is a huge game changer and can put it outdoors w/ the solark or 18k eg4.
Well I had some issues today getting the SOK stack to fire up and initialize the pre-charge state on the SOK across all six batteries (dip switches set, rs485 cables all connected to each other), so this weekend is probably hosed to finish the job until I can speak with Dexter.@@davidb.5544
Those do look pretty nice for outdoor use especially. I still have the patience to save cost by putting together raw cells in a cabinet though. Also makes it a little easier to transport if I have to by taking apart the individual cells. But I understand if a lot of people don't like that solution and want something a little cleaner.
You keep finding new components for me to buy! My "wanted" solar system has changed so many times. Lol. Can this be mounted on the floor, and then secured to the wall near the top of the unit (say, right below the 18k inverter)?
A large stackable version is availble as a DIY kit from DOCAN (China) about $500 for case & BMS, they sell the 280AH lifepo cells for $90/each, so $1,440 + $500 under $2,000, then you have to add in shipping and ali express fee, so add in another $500, DIY for $2,500. EG4 getting $4K, it is a wall mount, but it’s ridiculously heavy.. a stack with a floor dolly makes more sense, as long as it’s elevated above the floor. The EG4 version is probably worth more money, as it’s already built and all fees are paid..
Nice, solves my gripe with server rack batteries where my first ever impression is lack of capacity. However, the price is not much cheaper than buying three server rack batteries, as buying a single unit is to save on cost. Maybe there's slight edge to weather proofing? I guess if one does not have indoor space for batteries, there is nothing else to get but this.. Another thing to make this more compelling due to its size is electric vehicle DC charging (through DC voltage conversion not AC) maybe through a separately sold module or another model.
Lol "This thing is 300 pounds. I don't know if I'm going to be able to do it. 😀 I'm gonna film the whole thing." Hahaha, I truly love this attitude. I'm laughing with, not at. These videos are about as cool and fun as they are informative. I love that he explains it like I'm 5 years old. I think, Einstein said that if you can't explain it to a child, you don't understand it.
Looks really clean.. Does the Battery tell the 18K not to pull more then it's rated for? Or can you program the 18K to limit itself so you don't exceed a single battery 200A rating
If Will has a problem and has to contact support, how the hell does a rookie like me (maybe a lot of people) figure out process of getting system up and running without frying something. I agree with what he said about a quick start guide, thats a hell of a lot of power to make a wrong move.
I get first version of manual. Usually I never contact support, and I never use communication 😂 and they should have a quick start guide. It's not hard
With respect, you should _never_ install one of these units without reading the manual forwards, backwards and sideways first. Simple as. Or get somebody qualified to install it. Will doesn't because he is _not_ a newbie, but he does also nicely highlight in this video why he should! 😉
Howdy neighbor. This is looking like the size system with less units and less garage space. Could you just push the battery flush with the wall next to the inverter??? 300lbs is alot to put up on a wall.
Outdoor rated in Vegas and Phoenix is not what manufacturers expect. I would be interested in how it performs above 110 degrees. 😅 Read all of the instructions? Who does that?
2:31 "[the 18kpv] can charge with 18k watts of solar" the 18kpv is limited to 250A of charging, or around 13.5kW. FYI the communication setup steps you had to go through is exactly the same as if you use the LL batteries with the 18kpv, I agree a quick start guide would have saved me some time and frustration.
They just got this approved by the California Energy Comision that is a game changer. The price per watt is much cheaper than what had been approved. With the 18Kpv approved also means for $9000 you can have both are fully approved by the CEC.
I love nerds. I wish I could be one, but I'm the "jack of all trades, master of none" type. So when I need a master in DIY Solar... you are the nerd I turn to.
Thanks for this great review. I was almost ready to pull the trigger on BigBattery 48V Rhino with 14Kwh for $5990, when I see this one is only $3999. A comparison of the two would be awesome!
The EG4 18k is overkill for my project, but checks all the boxes for me and the NEC. A single one of these batteries will be plenty for what I need. The inverter has to go outside because of it's size and spacing requirements. I'm really hoping I can fit this battery on the same wall, but inside the house. Hopefully the cables will be long enough. I think they will be. I'm looking forward to the update video here. :)
I think they should have feet on them so then you can mount it on the floor, then make it so you can stack another one ontop so it's not quite so hard to mount up on the wall because you will be able to rest it on the battery underneath.
This looks like a great product for larger solar systems. Now that they finally have the software working, maybe they can also release an 8k version of this that supports 12K of solar input (2 MPPTs). This is good for 24 panel arrays (or even 27) but a lot of homes do not need more than 16 panels.
Great video as always! I love the heated battery... but I wonder how well this would do in a hotter environment outside. It can get up to 120F here in the southern CA desert! I would accept one as a proving site! LOL
Hi, Will great vid. What do you do with all those 12v batteries you've reviewed? Do you just tie them into your 48v system in strings of 4 when you can, or do you have a 12v system you use them in? Or do you do you just let them sit until they are needed for future use?
The local energy office and electricity supplier in the USVI are offering a low interest loan program here at a 1% rate for up to 30k. But the pricing and systems are all over the map pricewise. This battery is 1/3 the price of the cheapest battery that was quoted to me. I'm almost ready to self fund my system because in the end I'm still paying for these expensive systems.
Looking forward to the testing you will do. As you test I will be interested to know your thoughts on outdoor mounting, especially in an environment with more humidity, aka Florida. Thanks, this may be the setup I've been hoping for.
I'm ready for more DIY small full system setup builds. I want to get into it with a couple panels for fun on a ground mount install, looks to be the easiest way to do it

This battery is lower in price than the budget server rack battery if you include the cost of the rack ($279 per kWh VS $283 per kWh) .
I am going to put that in my Prius.
Should get my 0-100 times down.
This is perfect.. thank you for everything you do... answered all my questions and more
The additional bonus with that battery is that you get a workbench for doing the crimping on.
"If you're willing to laugh at yourself, you'll never lack for a source of amusement" - Diana D'Angelo
my plan is to run my house on these and recharge with a generator daily. I’ll be calling signature Solar on Monday.
Wow, EG4 sure has stepped up to the plate...
Kudos Will - just want to say we really are amazed at your knowledge, skill, attitude! Thanks for the wonderful videos.
“Now let’s look at the other side” *moves camera instead of 309 pound battery*
😂😂😂🤪. Gg sir. Ty for your service to society and keep up the good work!
Take it apart, we need to see the build quality and the guts!
Holy smokes that's a big battery!
Looks really clean.. Does the Battery tell the 18K not to pull more then it's rated for? Or can you program the 18K to limit itself so you don't exceed a single battery 200A rating
Yes when communication is setup it will throttle the output of the 18K
@@WillProwse Except in off-grid mode^^^. If you draw more than 10kw in off grid mode, the "throttling" would mean shutting down the output.
@@CurrentConnected Hey, is CurrentConnected planning to sell these too?
@@MikeGrayM70 Yes. We will have them on the site first thing next week.
Yes, but $4000 for the PowerWall, plus another $3500 shipping to Hawaii, I will have to pass, from Current Connected!
You really must have a great relationship with these companies to change the problems did you find
Read all of the instructions?
Thanks 😁
You're AWSOME! Thank you ! Keep up the great work.
Thanks for this great review. I was almost ready to pull the trigger on BigBattery 48V Rhino with 14Kwh for $5990, when I see this one is only $3999. A comparison of the two would be awesome!
Thank you Will! Love the insight you give with the new products, especially EG4.
GFD IT . Right when I was thinking of getting 4 more server racks!
Oh, I think I want the 18k and 2 of those batteries. Nice. Thanks for showing these. Please let us know if you've had any issues.
Can you do a video for people with an existing solar system that want to add an AC coupled battery backup system. Thanks!
I think they should have feet on them so then you can mount it on the floor, then make it so you can stack another one ontop so it's not quite so hard to mount up on the wall because you will be able to rest it on the battery underneath.
Seplos make a battery like that on castors. But you are getting Chinese customer service
you don't want to have 300lbs on top of 300lbs especially with batteries this size, maybe side by side.
Thanks
Awesome. This is what I'm talking about.
This looks like a great product for larger solar systems. Now that they finally have the software working, maybe they can also release an 8k version of this that supports 12K of solar input (2 MPPTs). This is good for 24 panel arrays (or even 27) but a lot of homes do not need more than 16 panels.
You have to do that same process with any of the LL V2 batteries as well when you’re setting up the communication
Great video as always! I love the heated battery... but I wonder how well this would do in a hotter environment outside. It can get up to 120F here in the southern CA desert! I would accept one as a proving site! LOL
That kind of heat will certainly lower the lifespan of the cells!
Would it be fine standing on the floor long-term like you have it? How about laying down on its back (like for an RV)? Thank you always, Will! ✊🏾
I would wait for the tear down and see if the busbars are welded to the cells
Looks like a pretty sweet battery!!
Exciting to see this product!
Dude,, that was some work for this review. I’m always worried about hurting the lifespan if I had this outside or in my Phoenix garage.
Heat will w/o a doubt accelerate their useful lifespan!
Hi, Will great vid. What do you do with all those 12v batteries you've reviewed? Do you just tie them into your 48v system in strings of 4 when you can, or do you have a 12v system you use them in? Or do you do you just let them sit until they are needed for future use?
How is the battery on the gate opener holding up as well?
The local energy office and electricity supplier in the USVI are offering a low interest loan program here at a 1% rate for up to 30k.
But the pricing and systems are all over the map pricewise.
This battery is 1/3 the price of the cheapest battery that was quoted to me.
I'm almost ready to self fund my system because in the end I'm still paying for these expensive systems.
I hope they will be introducing these in Europe as well
Waiting for the EG4 Powerpro disassembly video ;)
Looking forward to the testing you will do. As you test I will be interested to know your thoughts on outdoor mounting, especially in an environment with more humidity, aka Florida. Thanks, this may be the setup I've been hoping for.
Really interesting stuff Will - thumbs up buddy 👍👍👍
I don't remember whether you mentioned UL listing. Are these rated for Grid-Tie, or easily permitted?
they will be rated and certified for any install in any state. CEC too
I bet the delivery guy loves Will.
I'm ready for more DIY small full system setup builds. I want to get into it with a couple panels for fun on a ground mount install, looks to be the easiest way to do it
With maxed out solar panels, how long would it take to charge a single EG4 Powerpro14.3kWh LiFePO4 battery from 20% to 100%
Would like to order a Will in the future T-shirt
Cool, hope it gets UL9540 2nd edition as an ESS with the 18kpv...soon! If not looks like Solark for me
Currently pending, should be done mid-September
Thanks!
Cool…. I just ordered 30kw of lifepower4 from them…
Also. Yea, it’s still not here. It’s been about two months I have no power at my house(I’m off grid). My bank took a crap, ordered the lifepowers. Two months later. No word from Signature Solar!!!
So not only am I upset, but NOW THEY RELEASE THIS!?! Why did they have a gigantic summer sale if they don’t even have any inventory?
Sorry needed to vent. Just mad because I would much rather have these new ones. Also to Signature Solar. Don’t sell stuff when you have no inventory and no plan to restock.
Literally not a word from them. I heard they are “building new racks” but i haven’t even gotten an email. They did take the $10k dollars from my account first day though haha
Could you use this battery along with a inverter and charger as a stand alone EV Charger and backup power source? I have grid tied solar system and I want to charge my EV at night, when the car is home, on solar power.
What I really want to see is "will from the future" looking 21.9 years older :-)
I have not Drooled this bad since I was 4 months old.
