      @@JordanMichael-ty2ms I use to drive interstate fairly frequently in a big dually with commercial truck tires that made it sit fairly high. I would come up on a line of cars in the fast lane. Of course the ones at the back are just following the leader while the moron in front is pacing a car or semi beside them.
      I would flash my lights enough times that I could get most of them out of my way and then pull back a little and punch it.
      MOST of the time when these people saw a big truck flying up behind them that didn't look like it had any intentions of slowing down, they magically found their gas pedal. Lol! Seeing the whites of their eyes was a bonus. Hahaha
      Just make sure you have good brakes if you use that approach. :D
      Btw, out of state drivers from Ohio are without a doubt the absolute #1 worst for hogging the fast lane and blocking traffic and refusing to get over. I could have made millions betting the car at the front was from Ohio.

My first year. town type streets, 5 lane, turning onto a legal non truck route with 2lanes, parking one side and thank goodness I was the first one to the light that turned 5-700 ft before I got there. My trl was in the right lane and the middle lane and my tractor was in the turn lane. Signals on and working. Light changed, I was passed on the right and struck her car. She was NEVER in my view.
    Non-Preventable!! I learned when possible Take ALL the room you are given.
    Our courts work like basketball rules here. Whoever has the spot "first" is entitled to it.
    for clarity it took that room to put my truck in my lane only like hitting a parking spot

    Piece of advice: if the vehicle is bigger than you, it has the right-of-way. If I'm driving a semi with a 39' trailer, I'll let the 53-footers in. But, I would expect a dump truck to let me in. Fair? Good. Now, let's all stay safe on the roads

    • @norbertddounseroux353
      @norbertddounseroux353 3 года назад

      No, it's mostly the truckers that act like everything is for them. If they have turn on to a street that doesn't have a set back then they're required to wait until they can safely make the turn. Instead they will turn and block all traffic, and want to blame the others for not bowing down. I prepare for turns, I expect there isn't a set back or a turning lane.

      Tom: Why wud a car know that a right turn signal wud mean the rig would go into the left lane first (there by doing a jug handle turn, which are very dangerous). The "preferred" method, of going wide late, is a button hook and much safer to everyone.
      Maybe the car thought the rig's right turn signal meant he was going to turn right, and NOT go left first.

    • @bigring6424

That is the reason some shippers want even longer trailers. Last I heard there was a freeze on trailer size and weight.

    I'm here because a semi truck cut me off.....he was on the right lane ahead of me but the light turned red. His turn signal was on to turn right but while the light was red he moved to the left lane only half way in to the left side and half way in the right side of the lane. Once the light turned green, he completely moved to the left lane next to me. So I went straight since it was green. His turn signal was still on for the right turn so I thought how weird. He then started making the right turn from the left lane while I was driving straight. He never looked both ways or even slowed down. He cut me off so I honked at him and he looked back at me flipping me off. He then completed the turn but I've never seen a truck driver do this before

    There a significant lag in the reaction of the rear tandems to the steering axle which can be measured in feet. Using a forty foot trailer's which is or was the norm when I first started driveing. It's 8 feet. Obiviously with today's longer tractor's and trailer's, the footage has increased.
    If and when one develops a technique referred to as doing a "Button Hook". Regardless of which direction they turn. If and when done correctly. One can if and when traffic warrent's it. Make any corner, without issue's. A driver really only need's to pay attention to steer axle and the last axle on the trailer or set of trailer's they are pulling.
    It's ironic how a OTR long hauler, will after spending a couple of week's or longer. Utilize the technique which is quite noticeable to any and all other's. When they park the truck, get into their auto and drive home. Will instintively continure to do though considerably shorter; Button Hooks.

    Just curious, what's an HC license? Commercial here is class A, used to be Class 1, not sure when it changed. I'm going for my CDL in a month or so. Should be interesting. Good luck to you!

      Heavy Combination. Equivalent to a class A CDL, it covers heavy articulating vehicles like tractor-trailers.

    No doubt greed plays a big part. All I was trying to say is the highways are overcrowded plus there is a so called "driver shortage" so more trucks on the road would be a bad thing, I think?? Not sure I believe the "driver shortage", I think there is a shortage of drivers that will drive at the wages that are being offered. Good luck getting your CDL. I drove for 12 years. Not a bad gig, just a lot of time away from home.

    if you edge left to make a right turn you fail your road test.

    • @laurenkind2455
      @laurenkind2455 7 лет назад +1

      jasonhpi that's correct. it's not a preferred turn. DOT doesn't want you making button hooks if possible. I only make them if it is absolutely necessary.

      In Texas, u wud fail the road test doing a wide early turn, called a jug handle.
      Turning wide late in TX is legal, called a button hook. This is shown in the Texas CDL book.

      right turn lane...how about a dual right turn lane into a 3 lane road, can you then use the outside lane and creep left into lane 3, and end up in the middle lane? seems smarter than cutting of the left right turners.... i have searched everywhere and cant find this answer...

    Agreed, but alas, there's always going to be someone who wants to go faster than you. Even if you're going 65 in a 55 zone, you'll have people riding your ass so they can go 80 in a 55.
