For the housework schedule: put it on your calendar. I also have another suggestion: make big meals, and freeze extra, so if you are too tired to cook, you can pull a meal out of the freezer.
I think something you could do better on is not calling other women “trashy”. You’re a smart, beautiful young woman and I wish you the best for motherhood, but there’s no need to put down other women because they choose to wear styles of clothing that don’t work for you.
👏 Very well said. Bringing other women down should not make you feel better about yourself and it is an immature, vindictive thing to do that you would expect from a high school mean girl, not an adult mother. Live and let live 👍
@@chiarascura7574 Discerning most likely does and having a preference. Men's opinions are fit for the trash can as in people's opinions that are irrelevant more than Father God.
You are adorable and it's just so good to know that there are young women these days who want to be 'classic'. Thank you for all you do, who you are, and thank you too, for sharing your faith!
Regarding the "getting things done" goal, I just started doing this by waking up at 5 am every morning and omg it's so helpful! Everyone wants to sleep a little more but it's the best sacrifice!
I'm gonna be "that guy", sorry, but you technically don't have to get 8. 7 is considered healthy, 6.5 hours is also not considered unhealthy. 6 and below is where it gets unhealthy to dangerous to lethal.
Love this! I’m also learning that I need to break down my goals into smaller more manageable ones. Quick tip on the phones. I have found that it is helpful to actually turn the phone off. Because then when you reach for it, it will take longer to boot up. Giving you a longer period to think to yourself “do I really want to be doing this right now.” Keeping it off for the whole evening may not be manageable, as I know a lot of people don’t have land lines anymore, but it’s helped me out a lot.
Love your explanation of self care as a bandaid - I definitely agree. Once I started taking care of myself in a preventive way I started feeling so much better!
I did a 10 day social media fast last year and it was wonderful! We stay off our phones after 8 and on Sundays. Family rule is no electronics during family and dinner time 5-7
My New Years goals are to forgive myself and not to be too hard on myself. I’ve always been someone with high standards and I think that’s a good thing but I beat myself up and I want to go to therapy to confront some things and not bring baggage into a relationship
My goal is to be more balanced this year. Mind- reading and learning a new skill. Body- exercising and eating healthier. Spirit- reading the bible and becoming a member of my new church.
My goals are to eat more fruits and vegetables, reduce unnecessary spending, and to pray more liturgies-- The Sacred Heart, Loretto, Saint Joseph, etc.
YES - enjoy the silence! When I had both my boys (1997, 2004) phones were NOT smart phones. I never had the option of a phone, so it was easy. See your son, give yourself to him completely. Time passes quickly, you will never regret giving this time to your son. You will however miss so much if you spend time on an electronic device. Our children are our greatest gift.
We are expecting #6 next month and that feeling of wanting to be better for your new child doesn't go away. Children really do spur you on in the process of sanctification. Our oldest is eleven and looking back I don't even recognize the woman I was before he was born!
I love what you said about praying every day. I read somewhere that there are Jewish prayers for baking bread and other household/homemaking tasks that some women say as they go through their day. I'm not sure if that is just a regional tradition, or if those prayers are common, but I like the way routine tasks can be more sacred if there's a prayer to go with them.
In the “taking care of yourself” category, something that has become important to me is weekly time alone. To me this is our weekly shopping and usually a quick trip to the library. In warmer weather I’ll try to incorporate long walks too. It didn’t use to be something that mattered that much, but after kids, I’m never alone anymore, and as an introvert that does take a toll. I completely agree with you that if you get to the point that you need to be alone in the bedroom just scrolling for 30 minutes straight, then it’s already a problem that has been compounding. But having some structured time alone to do a healthy activity makes a huge difference in my mental well-being.
If you’re wanting to be done with wasting time scrolling on social media, then just post what you need to post for work, and then hop off. I haven’t had social media for six years, and I don’t miss it one bit.
Including prayer in your day gets easier the more you do it. I'm at a point now where I don't even have to set aside time for it. It's just a natural exchange throughout the day. Meditations has amplified this as well. That would be a good addition to self care.
@@Peacebewithu34 Oh, yeah. I'm just here as a favor to her brother. I even gave a thumbs up, but the content quality is lacking in my opinion. But hey, 100k subsribers now, I see. Great inspiring ideas to focus and prioritize this year! Thank you Abby! For me the top of my list is my daily prayer life, my relationship with JESUS!❤️ So, waking up earlier in the morning to have prayer time combined with Study Bible! Putting GOD first! Then. Starting my day. Top list also is less phone on my hand( less Instagram and social media).
Love your goals! I think I'll be taking some inspiration from them lol what has helped me limit social media time is deleting the apps (Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, etc) and using them on the browser when I feel like it, I still do but my time has greatly reduced 🤗
Well I think self-care does imply taking care of yourself and I think that also includes being honest with yourself. Mental health issues need to be treated by a professional and it’s not something that taking a bath or just preventing stressors alone can’t do. Part of self-care is getting the mental health care that one needs to feel better and to work on some symptoms and bad habits that to get in the way of one taking care of themselves. That’s just my opinion
I agree and disagree with this... Cause it depends on what you mean by 'mental health issues'. I think the anxiety and depression are very real issues that -sometimes- need professional care (if it gets to the point of a 'disorder'). Sometimes though, they can be self-corrected through lifestyle changes and development of good habits. Totally depends on the individual situation tho. I feel like Abby is prolly just referring to normal stress management, not trying to dismiss a serious mental health disorder. 'Self-care' is one of those weird buzzwords that some people have differing definitions of.
Do yourself a favor and take a maternity leave from goals (at least the to do list kind) especially that homemaking one. It’s a good goal but adjusting to a newborn is a huge goal. If you can feed the baby without the phone, you’ll set yourself up for a great habit and reduce phone time.
So cute, you’re nesting! The fly lady is good if you want to have a set schedule to tackle everything in due time. I am currently reading, Atomic Habits” and will be working on making small changes in the new year on purpose -even though huge changes are on the horizon for me. Making small changes & choices add up in time and just become our daily habits & routines. Blessings to you and your family in the New Year!⭐️
I love the “favorite recipes book” idea. And my husband and I have done the breaking up housework by daily bits. Aren’t always able to keep up during holidays and things, but it’s a good principle to in general keep :). And I’ll always advocate more prayer 🙏!! I’m starting the Bible in a Year with Father Mike Schmitz again myself 😊. Happy new year Abby and all!
