    Great vid @Guns&Cars! Thanks so much for giving me the link to this one, from your other video about this rifle.
    Oh man. I'm very seriously wanting to check out this platform.
    Great shooting, and I'm glad you got a day with less wind, so that you could find out, and show us what this rifle was really capable of!
    Thanks so much!

    This is truly impressive long range 22 Mag shooting! I get a 3 count from the bang to the ding. It has to be a good 3 seconds of air time between firing and connecting with the plate. AMAZING! Great shooting!!!

      Over 300 inches of drop at 500 yards. It's only going 680fps at that distance when it hits according to the Hornady ballistics calculator.

      @@BuckeyeBallistics Did you use that tree branch as aiming point above target ?
      Bullet may be a bit slow when it finally get there. But it will definelty do bit more than just a hurt.

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  Год назад +2

      @Frank - Probably 12 feet or more lol, not kidding.

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  Год назад +2

      @Kess - Scope was clicked all the way up and I used the triangular tip towards the bottom of the scope to aim with, below all the mil dots. I still had to aim about 2-3 feet high and hold off to the left side of the target to combat the wind. Even at that, I got lucky because the wind died down some and stayed consistant long enough for me to get these 4 shots on the plate before it kicked up again and started throwing the bullets everywhere. A 1mph difference in the wind at 500 yards with a .22WMR is probably 10-12" of drift.

    Nice shooting. I’m surprised you weren’t using the ballistic-tip 30-grainers, but maybe this is more stable. I’ve got a quite accurate Ruger American 22wmr with a 3x9 scope. You’ve inspired me to stretch it out past its usual 100.

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  Год назад +2

      Thanks. It was windy this day and those would have been blown all over the place by 500 yards. But generally they do shoot very accurately out to 300-400 yards if the wind is calm.

    • @bryantbutlermf
      @bryantbutlermf Год назад

      The 30 grainers literally are all over the place regardless of hornady or tnt. The 40g was made for the 22 magnum. Not new shit like Winchester 2250fps literally is so inaccurate it’s laughable

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  Год назад +1

      @bryant - The 30gr Hornady is what shoots the best out of my Rossi RS22M lol. Just depends on the gun...

    I wonder what that .22 mag would do to a gel bock at 500 yards. It sounds like throwing a pebble at that distance.

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  Год назад +4

      Probably 6-7" penetration. It's going roughly 680fps at that distance with 40ft-lbs energy.

    My wife wanted a rifle that was easy for her to shoot for just plinking. I bought a heavy barrel Crickett in 22 Mag bought the scope they offer for it and a small Harris bipod to make her a "target" rifle. The first time we took it once everyone had shot the regular rifles we took turns with the Crickett and I didn't bring nearly enough ammo and it is what everyone tries to grab first, I have never had more fun shooting anything and at the 100yrds maximum range we have to shoot is a tack driver. If it had a 5 round magazine it would be just perfect. The scope really surprised me it is not expensive but works extremely well.

      You shoot 485 with 22 mag? And yeah, a regular AR in .223/5.56, 300 yards should be an easy shot with irons on a big target.

    Congratulations, yes that was an accomplishment to be able to hit the gong at that distance. I just can't get enthused shooting a cartridge, like the 22 WMR, at long range, nor any other cartridge that is fired well beyond its performance range. What have you accomplished except to demonstrate that you could do it, no one in their right mind would try a serious effort to hunt or make other use applications.

      It's a challenge, and also displays some level of talent- like how I can shoot various handguns 100 yards accurately. It's fun to me to be able to do that which 99.9% of people cannot...

    Where does it lose its effectiveness? Will it penetrate and stop a Purp at that distance

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  8 месяцев назад

      Depends on what you mean by effective and "stop" a perp. It is absolutely still lethal at 500 yards if it hits you in the right spot. At 500 yards with a 40gr bullet, it's going about the same velocity as a .22 cb short at close range (730fps), but with a heavier bullet. A .22 cb short can kill you, so this definately still can at 500 yards. That said it might not be very "effective" since it's just poking a .22 caliber hole in you at a low velocity, but it is still definately capable of being lethal at that distance...
