There are lots of lessons and tutorials out there... this is the only one that definitively teaches you how to approach this Colter Wall song, Kate McCannon. Here, you'll learn the Kate McCannon chords and movements. This Kate McCannon guitar lesson and tutorial correctly shows how to execute the song in proper tuning, while teaching rhythm consistent and sensible to how Colter Wall plays. After this lesson, you will be able to cover Kate McCannon by Colter Wall in your own set.
Guitar lessons in person are expensive, this is free. Other guitar tutorials on youtube can be risky for your playing habits, because you may be taught faulty mechanics and spend time practicing incorrect short cut versions of a song. This video wont do that to you.
Just wondering, does Colter also tune his vocal chords a full step down?
Hahaha it sure seems that way doesn't it?
He's just able to lower his voice like that, it's really surprising
He doesn't look like his voice. I can easily sing in the low notes like him, but I have difficulty with the super high notes.
no its like 3 steps down
2 full steps. Lol
Sounds great I haven’t seen a tutorial that sounds more similar and glad you spent the time to learn and teach a great song
Thanks Jesse! I appreciate it!
Love this song! Great tutorial. And I love that Waterloo guitar! They make some beautiful instruments. :)
Hi Tim, I don't usually write comments, but I just had to say thank you, I find your tutorials very straightforward to learn, it takes a lot of skill to be able to teach in such a comprehensive and easily digestible manner.
Also, specifically with Colter wall, You're able to teach them closer to the sound of the actual song than any other video I can find.
It's Much appreciated!
Well I’m certainly glad that you found the lesson helpful!
Best guitar tutorials on RUclips, by far. You hear the new Colter Wall record yet? If you were to do a lesson on Talkin Prairie Boy I'd be forever grateful
Thanks Cam! I've not had time to listen to the full album yet, but I definitely plan on doing some lessons from it once it sinks in!
@@TimGuitarLessons you're in for it brother, might be some of his best yet
Thank you so much! Awesome job 👍
Thanks for the comment Jamie!
I've been working on this for a couple weeks I'm nowhere near sounding like this yet though. But It's been fun!
Oh wow! I’ve been waiting for this one. Thanks, Tim!
You're welcome! Thanks for the comment Jeff!
I found this video through search and checked out your channel, and as I scrolled I just kept seeing more and more songs I've wanted to learn or been trying to learn. Wish I had've found your channel years ago!
Great format, great clarity, great playing, great pacing, great songs. Thank you for your work, keep it up!
Thanks so much for the comment Jack, I’m glad you found the channel!
I started playing two days ago, why the hell am i doing this to myself lmao
The first song I learned was hurt by Johnny cash, try learning something easier first
step back a little, trying to learn harder songs right off the rip might discourage you from really learning
@@bighoss3405 trust me i got that the first 2 minutes of this video lmao im just impatient
@@_________________________x567Hey same here! Well I was learning a few other songs but Hurt is the one I fully learned and can sing to :D
I cant figure out how you strum with your finger while fingerpicking. What do you do with your index finger?
Just discovered Colter Wall. Trying to learn his version of Happy Reunion and these lessons are helping me piece that together. Also thank you for these lessons.
Can you do a video on his song Motorcycle? There are none on RUclips.
Please
This was very helpful in both learning how to approach this song but also in learning the names for some chords. Thank you for this.
I’m glad it helped, thanks for the comment!
Such a simple song that sounds so decent.
Indeed!
You explain this so well, I caught onto it right away. This style of playing is very far outside of my comfort zone
Flawless likeness
Thanks!
Tim, could you do corralling the blues next? Been waitin for a great guitar lesson on it! God bless 🙏🏼
starts at 4:10
What is the fingerstyle you're playing called?
Man, I love your tutorials, but how I wish I could do nothing but praise this fully with no issues. I’m going to go through my issues before I go through thing I like.
I’m going to start out with how you seem to ramble everyone and awhile. It’s not huge, but when it happens, it can be hard to track where you are in the song (Note: it also seems you pluck strings that aren’t in the song to emphasize what your trying to convey. It falls under the same-ish as the rambling) looking back at this, rambling is a harsh word, getting off track is more suited
Next I will mention how you seem to not have a script or plan when you go into some parts of songs. As an example, you’ll forget a part of a song, and back track. (As a general note, sometimes it seems you don’t tell the viewer you are back tracking in some videos.)
My last main gripe is that occasionally you’ll under explain a part of a song, and at least for me, I will back track to you playing the full song to see what I missed. To be fair I’m still very new to guitar, and it’s hard for me to keep up (but to be fair, this video is a little old at this point)
Now I want to talk about all the things I like
First, what you play always sounds closer than any other tutorial to the original song
Second, you give tutorials for songs that with out you, would be impossible for me to learn because no one else has made a tutorial, and I am god awful at playing by ear
Third, what you do explain in depth, you very rarely leave anything up to the viewer, which is so nice compared to others
I don’t want to make this too long, so I’ll stop here, 3 of positives and negatives. If you see this, I’m not trying to be rude, or mean, I’m just trying to see if anyone else has my problems following along, and possibly ways to change your formula, and make even more people appreciate you tutorials. I hope I didn’t come off like a horrible person, I’m just a slow learner, and a fan, trying to understand how you teach. (Sorry if there is misspellings, and such, I wrote too much to fix it all)
Thank you by the way I really like this song and it’s been a joy to learn, I couldn’t find any other tutorials that matched the accuracy of this one.
I'm glad the lesson helped! I try to make my lessons as accurate as possible!
I've probably just some how managed to overlook it even after scrolling around the page a few times but what model guitar are you using here? I'm really wanting to get myself a smaller bodied guitar, just haven't quite decided on which model I wanna go with yet.
Great song, great tutorial!
Thank you so much!!
My brother I don’t know if you do requests, but if so could you do a lesson on another song from ol Colter called Wild Dogs? Would be much appreciated.
Your lessons have been so influential to me over the years. Helped me a lot in my progress. Thanks alot Tim. Really. If your ever in Michigan, beers are on me my friend. 👍🍻
Thanks Cory!
Hey I know this is 4 year old but I was wondering what guitar is that? It looks absolutely beautiful!
Hey Tim, this was honestly great, been waiting for this for a while and you did amazing! There has been a colter wall song that I wanted to learn for a while and hoped that you could make tutorial on the song. It the song The Trains Are Gone and I’ve been really wanting to play it but found nothing. Thanks for the video, you make really great tutorials

Well I'm super glad that you're getting the hang of it Kathryn!
Great explanation, as well as the best tutorial I've found for this song.
Thanks for all you do, sir.

Great Breakdown my friend !!!! There is A Lot going on there and you pulled it off great wear you can actually understand. Bravo,,Hehe Hehe
I appreciate it!
Wonderful job!! What kind of guitar ya playing?
Thanks Jack! This is a Waterloo WL14X
Wow just watched this like four or five times with my guitar. I was impressed with myself with how fast I picked it up. Thanks for sharing! I’ll keep practicing
I found it easy to recreate too.
I’m sure it’s more difficult to actually come up with it though 😂
colter wall is definitely a nice player to listen to while trying to get better at guitar. he got so many nice riffs and ideas. I find this song a lot easier to play with a pick
👍
This strumming is way harder than it looks. I can play it with a pick, but it sounds way too robotic. I guess I’ll keep practicing…
Definitely the fingers are the way to go for the correct sound here... and you're right, it's way harder than it looks.
Thank you!
Sure thing! Thanks for the comment!
Amazing work as always! Thank you!
Thanks Alan!
I don’t know why but I have so much trouble strumming with my fingers. Songs like these, a pick takes much away from.
I love your guitar lessons, they help me so much. Can you do railroad bill Colter Wall cover?
You're playing wonderful thx!!
Thanks for the positive feedback Eren!
What the L thumb doin
Should i do a cover of this song? If i do ill tag you in it for teaching me the guitar 😂
Cover it for sure!
This is great. Getting back into playing.... got my dream guitar (D-18)... not worthy of it yet.. and lesson is really helping me. THANK YOU!
hey tim, thanks for the videos they're awesome! I'd love it if you could do Ballad of a Law Abiding Sophisticate by Colter!
love all the Colter Wall stuff. thanks.
Sure thing Scott!

This is amazing. I almost got it down. Thank you tim! Can you do a lesson on big iron? Colters version I notice the intro is alot likethis
Been waiting a while fer this
Glad I finally got around to it!
Any chance you could do the song John Beyers? Can’t seem to see anything out there!
As a beginner, I watched other tutorials in slow motion, for a month, to try to figure out how to play that song. I wish you would have done this lesson 2 years ago, it really is the best explanation I have seen.
I really appreciate the kind words Darren... sorry I didn't do this lesson sooner!
@@TimGuitarLessons No worries, I was able to brush up on a couple of parts I found tricky. I really appreciate the time you take to teach.
Could you tell me the make and model of that acoustic?!
Yes! This is a Waterloo WL14X
Great video also I love that guitar.
Thanks man!
On a live session I see he has the capo on the 3rd fret.
Thanks, Tim! :)
You're welcome, thanks for the comment!
Thank you for sharing! Great tutorial! You have a lot of patience.

He tunes down to half step but to 430hz as opposed to 440hz which is the universal hz that all tuners in almost all music in the western hemisphere are calibrated to. If one wishes to play in the same tuning as Colter Wall you need to tune it a quarter step lower than half step tuning by ear or get a tuner that can change the calibration down 10 hertz(not cents) from 440 hz to 430 hz (not to be confused with 432hz which still sounds out of tune and shitty to me tbh) sounds better to my ears and I've been tuning to it for most of my work and urge others I play with to try it for year or two now before discovered Colter Wall's music recently and I recognized him using 430 instead of 440 while learning/listening to this song for one of my students that wants to learn it... great lesson and awesome finger picking man! I'm learning the art of RUclips lessons and I'm slowly getting better from watching guys that are clear and to the point with their videos and not posting super long ones like yourself. Great lesson!
I appreciate the positive feedback Sam!

A raven is a wicked bird…
Such a damn wicked bird
What guitar is that ?
Hey man! Just saw your earlier comment about how you're just starting out on guitar. This model is a Waterloo WL14X. If you're just starting out, this model is probably a bit more pricey than you'd want. But, Recording King makes a line of guitars that are in the same "vein" as what this one is. Also, just in general terms of a new guitar/first guitar, I would encourage you to go to a guitar store and try some out. Most brand make beginner models that are all fine for starting out on. Washburn, Takamine, Epiphone, Taylor, Seagull, Alvarez make some of the most common "beginner" level guitars
Tim thank you !! Hopefully I can learn and get the hang of this because a lot of this seems like rocket Science lol. You’re a lot of help tho !
Gives a guitar case 🤣✌️🇮🇪
legend thankyou
Thanks Tim
