I think I am going to keep this one stock since most of the parts are there, but I do have another 250R frame and a fork off of an 85 that might be a great candidate for that. It would be like a super fast Fat Cat :) I think I could build one pretty easily without having to chop up the frame, especially if I can modify a fat cat swing arm to fit. Thanks for the idea!!!
@BIGFOOT BIKES AND BREWS heck yah I lost the use of my left leg so bikes are out and I'm relinquished to a side by side but I love the looks of the big wheel bikes
Hoping to find one of these to restore myself, your videos are awesome and I have gotten lots of tips and tricks from your videos! Would love to learn more and see you restore this one
Thanks Nigel. I did a compression test on it and it has great compression. I think its going to be a runner one I get it jetted correctly. Thanks for commenting and watching!
12 tooth will definitely get you off the line and keep power with those massive rear tires but if you drop tire size to an 18inch you will want bigger front sprocket
Thanks! I think I will stick with the 12T since the plans right now are to keep stock sized and stock looking tires on it if I do a full restoration. Thanks again!
Hi!! I’m not new to dirt bikes and motorcycles but, I am new to your channel. For the life of me I can’t understand why you do not have 200,000+ Subscribers. Please keep up the awesome content. I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for all you do!
Hey, thanks for the good words Bradley! The last year and a half has been pretty darn low with the amount of folks YT recommends my videos to. It's been rough, but comments like these keep me motivated!!! Be sure to tell some friends to stop on my the channel and we'll grow this party soon enough :) Thanks again and thanks for subscribing!!!
Restore is well enough to make it a nice rider. Your tuning issue could be just a missing air box. My 250R doesn't like to be wide open without an airbox/filter on stock jetting.
I bought an 81 in 81 (used a guy bought it for his son and rode it around the house once (the dad) and brought it back to the dealer. I raced it while in AIT in the Army then was sent to germany where I couldn't bring it. (raced MX there with a Maico 490) definitely rider restore it. I am looking for an 81 myself for a retirement project.
Thanks for the comment! I am planning on going forward with it. Just need to finish up a few other projects first. I'm thinking it will be a great winter project!
Hey, I noticed when installing clutch cable; down at the clutch lever, you have the two nuts on the same side. In actuality, one nut goes on the right side of that "guide" and the other on the left. It allows for cable adjustment.
Ya, I was wondering about that. Thanks for the tip. I was thinking the pull from the spring would keep it tensioned in one direction and I would double nut it on one side to keep the adjustment from moving. I'll put it back together right in the future :)
Fix it for sure! It's not running right because, between no air box and unknown jets in the carb, the jetting is off. People like to put a bigger carb on their machine because they think that it will give it more power, but it doesn't. Your engine will only draw a certain amount of air through it. As long as it's getting enough air, the jets are what determines how much power it makes.
Thanks Jeremey. Luckily I do have a stock air box for in on my parts bike. I will definitely put that back in when I put the bike back together. I did a compression test and luckily that looks right on the money. I'll do a little research on the carb and jetting and get it running smooth pretty soon!!
that's true, but you also have to think about how efficient the carb is as well. a genuine mikuni round slide has three jets, as well as an air adjustment, but a cheap china motor bike carb has one jet for all throttle positions, and no air adjustment.
Full restore is in order. These things are increasing in value and although you wouldn’t come out way ahead considering all it needs to be restored, with your labor and time, I think you could still sell it for a small profit. Or, you could hang onto it and sell it in a few years for a great price. Be fun to see it restored and then put up on Bring a trailer. With a quality restore, and the story behind it, could do very well. It would also bring a lot of awareness to your channel. Just some thoughts. Either way great channel and content so far!
Thanks for the great comment. Great idea with bring a trailer too! I'll plan on taking the bike apart this week and do a little inventory of what I need and make a decision. Thanks again for watching!
I'm leaning that direction right now :) I'll know for sure once I get it taken apart and total up the $$$ for the parts I need. Thanks again for stopping by!
I think the ones on the rear are old Carlisle Trail Pros. I have a NOS pair on the shelf but they aren't going on this one. They are pretty bad tires from what I hear.
Thanks for commenting Daniel! I am going to take the guy apart this week and start adding up $$$ on what I need to order. I don't think it's going to be that big of f job!

Make it a runner. Save it. They are worth it.
Thanks Jared! I am going to pull it all apart this week and start taking inventory on what it is going to take to get it all running again.
Yay! Been waiting anxiously for the next installment of this build!
Thanks Robert. Plenty more videos to come really soon!
Make a 250 big wheel cycle out of it that would be cool

Thanks Sam, that's great to hear. Glad I could help and best of luck in your search!
Definitely rebuild!!!!
I'm thinking of making it my fall project!!!
That motor is Alive! - needs an overall rebuild and bring back from the dead. 👍😎❤️

Yea they like a certain amount of vacuum that the airbox creates, open carb they just ain't happy
@@tricycleguy2657 Thanks again for the gear info and thanks a bunch for commenting!

Restore for sure I am doing one along side with ya! Really can’t wait to see how that pipe turns out
Cool! Thanks for commenting and good luck with yours!
Stock carb on them was 27mm I believe 38 will probably be fine... stock port stock motor will be the restricting factor
Thanks for the info!
fix it, ride it, enjoy it.
Thanks for stopping by Darius. I'll total up the $$$ it's going to cost in parts and get to ordering stuff it it looks good!

very cool. of course restore it!

restore it, much more fun than parting it out.

Fix fix fix restore the danger!
I don't know which one scares me more. This or the 600R. I think this one edges it out right now, only because it has not brakes :) :)
I've owned many Honda 3 wheelers and 4 wheelers back in my younger days. Wish I had owned a 250R. What brand and name are the dry rot tires?
I think the ones on the rear are old Carlisle Trail Pros. I have a NOS pair on the shelf but they aren't going on this one. They are pretty bad tires from what I hear.
RESTORE!!

Yes save it they are only getting more value😂

Be careful when ordering parts many parts are listed as 81-82 there is a surprising number of parts that are 81 OR 82 and can't interchange
Thanks for the heads up! I'll be sure to do some careful research before I order stuff!
Choke cable, clutch cable, bah same thing 😅
HA! I was hoping no one caught that.
F awesome
I will get is restored and put back together one of these days !!
