I just got the Xtreme4 and I'm very surprised, the sound is not good. It sounds tinny and really trouble-forward and it sorely LACKS bass. If it'll depend on having to use the EQ on the JBL app to get some decent bass? that's a dealbreaker b/c I would want any family or friend to be able to link in and they won't have the EQ so it'll sound at its baseline and it's baseline/out of the box should sound good. I had a JBL Xtreme2 and it sounded a lot better and had a lot more bass and was satisfied with it but the battery died and thus could no longer use it. I'm going to return the Xtreme4, sadly.
I have the Xtreme 3 and have been happy with it. I'd miss the Aux port because I have a record player connected though it. Auracast might be big in a few years, so no rush to get a speaker with this technology yet. Great, succinct review. Keep up the great work Danny!
I 100% cannot tell the difference between these speakers other than aesthetics and features. They sound identical, but both are great! Honestly really makes me consider picking up an Xtreme 3 when it's on sale now that the 4s are rolling out. I bought a Bose Soundlink Flex and wanted to get something bigger, but I just don't want to drop 400 dollars on a speaker that isn't some home stereo stuff like a big subwoofer or some nice hi-fi bookshelf speakers
Well said! I would also be really hesitant to buy one if it weren't for the purposes of my channel here. It's very nice, but I mean that's why i shop on ebay usually.
That was great help. I lost the extreme 3 ridding my motorcycle. So I'm shopping around for a used on on the local Flea market apps. I and wanted to know which one to target. I can get a 3 for $110 vs a 4 for $ 280
Hey dan, can you help me ? I need a new portable speaker and Im so confused, I dont know wich one is better for me. I kinda need a good sounding portable speaker and I understood that the flex 2 gen is the best...but im worried about the size. Bout the fact that if it's too small and I'm with some friends idk like in the gym, or in the car, I wouldn't be able to listen clear. I was thinking about the soundcore x600 but it doesn't have great basses. Can you help me pls? (I'm in love with the middletone and the bose soundlink max but my budget stops at 170$ max)
ebay.us/am3CKs you can find Marshall Middleton on eBay for very close to your budget (all affiliate links on this post if you want to use it). Finding a 170 big bass speaker may be difficult. Soundcore (ebay.us/Gt7YXH motion + boom) and Tribit (ebay.us/uFtGbr stormbox blast)both make decent powerhouses, but I'd strongly recommend eBay again on your budget.
Hi Danny, I have a jbl xtreme 2 and I'm thinking of getting a marshall middleton. I think the jbl has better audio but I don't like the design of the xtreme 3 and 4. Am I making a bad purchase if I buy the Marshall?
@dfp8813 I feel ya. I do think the xtreme 3 and 4 provide a slightly better audio experience but no so much greater that it rules out the Middleton. If you love the look of the Middleton I'd get it.
hello Danny, thank you for your work. An update I took advantage of black Friday and had the Marshall middleton for 200€ and the xtreme 4 for 240€. I bought the Marshall but when I tested the sound next to my old xtreme 2 I didn't like it at all. the Middleton sounds like the sound was always distorting . I went back to the store and bought the xtreme 4, much better sound
JBL extreme 3 sounds best. Good bass as well as more open with clarity. But no aura cast. So if you want multi-room speakers then go for extreme 3 2pc and charge 5 4 pc with these 6 speakers you can cover all the rooms with party boost technology which is more powerful than auracast.
Wait up! In the specs it says if you plug the xtreme 4 to the ac, you will get acces to more power. Can you confirm the difference with results from the db meter?
it's not. BUT you can still link the previous partyboost speakers in the latest JBL app... it's not as smooth of a process, but not horrible. I linked the Xtreme 3 and 4 in mono.
1 usb-C can cover the older type connection (usb-A and 3.5 audio jack). simply press Play+Bluetooth (hold until the speaker restart), then it goes to AUX mode.
Leaving my comment here until someone give me a spare JBL Xtreme 4. This is my dream speaker and I couldn't afford to buy here in my country. It's too expensive 🥺
@@mikehancock6280 Oh no ! In Cad the bose max cost 550$ and i bought Soundcore X600 for 150$ and it sound really better of the bose to my ears ! I really love the X600 !
Great editing in the sound comparison section..
Replaceable battery in JBL Xtreme 4 is a gem for longevity.
Resurrection = Immortal 💪💯🔥
I just love your dance moves 🔥😆
Still really happy with my Xtreme 2!
Authentic review.Very good.

I have the Xtreme 3 and it is an excellent speaker, there is no reason to upgrade to the Xtreme 4

Any news about flip 7 😢??
Greetings, I have a question, the cover that brings at the bottom to cover the battery is not scratched in the use it has as a base of the speaker? 🤔🤔

Oldschool killburn2 kicks in.

Is the xtreme 3 better in audio quality if you do wired audio compared to Xtreme 4 Bluetooth?

hi danny, please test the Dali Katch G2, thanks. :)

its a little extra oomf, but i haven't tested at this time.
Bose Soundlink Max❤
The question here, is the auracast backwards compatible to partyboost speakers?
it's not. BUT you can still link the previous partyboost speakers in the latest JBL app... it's not as smooth of a process, but not horrible. I linked the Xtreme 3 and 4 in mono.
aura cast is backwards comparable but you have to use the app to connect. i know this because i have an xtreme 4 and also a flip 6
Biggest difference for me is #3 = 53hz, #4 = 44hz. Same old SBC codec so not much difference.
Marshall II 👍🏼
A bit to bulky for me, but a good device.
Xtreme 4 have maybe little bit more hi-freq than Xtreme 3.
Soundcore sounded the best
Sound the same to me , Ide stick with the 3 me more plug in's

That Bose sounded bad.
@mikehancock6280 agreed, but in real life it sounds quite good.

@mikehancock6280 I'd wait till prime day if you can, IF you want this.
