The Xtreme 2 is still a nice speaker to this day. it's the power output it struggles with compared to modern-day mid sized speakers. The Xtreme 3 is a nice upgrade, but the treble was a bit too harsh. The extreme 4 is more of a feature upgrade.
Agree. I have Xtreme 2 and it’s natural sounding, compared to the anoying Xtreme 3 with the 8/10 khz +2db lift in the treble area. Sound is very hard, i hate that I’m really missing a frequenzy curve for the Xtreme 4, because did it also just lift the treble and highs up to sound louder?
I’ve had my Xtreme 4 for a week and I’ve been breaking in the speakers (running it at 75% volume or less) and man, it is impressive. I had the Charge 5 and had to return it because the Bluetooth would crackle intermittently and especially badly as soon as a second device connected so I took the opportunity to upgrade, just paying the difference in price and also the Xtreme 4 was on sale for a great price ($417 NZD which is about $264 USD) and I’m so glad I made the switch. It is a lot bigger speaker than the charge but the sound is 5 times better and way bassier. I really dislike the shoulder strap though, it’s just an eyesore most of the time so I took it off and made a carry handle out of some black paracord. Much better. I also love that this has a 5 band EQ instead of a basic 3 band. I set my EQ to 64hz +2, 250hz +2, 1k 0, 4k 0 and 16k +2. I think this is a good balance, pumps the bass a bit without making it sound boomy or overcompensating and makes it sparkle a bit at the top but keep the mids and vocals in control so you don’t get any sibilance. Initially I turned down the 4k band to -1 because it was a little sibilant but now that I have broken in the tweeters, they have mellowed out and I can run it at 0 comfortably. A side note, every time I listen to your speaker comparisons I think they sound terrible, especially the vocals, and I think it’s the song you are using. Can you mix it up with some other genres other than rock?
finally someone that tests it against the xtreme 2 as well. Don't see why everyone just compares it to the xtreme 3 when that was barely an upgrade to the xtreme 2, for a way higher price tag
I have an extreme 2 for the past 3 years almost. Great speaker to this day. I still gets people confused from its great sound performance! Love it, especially for the low I price I got it! I was new for just 179€!!
The 3.5mm jack port is a big plus on the Xtreme 3 and Boombox 3 is a big plus to attach them to your TV without latency and audio quality. They really done change your movie watching IMO.
Another thought - you can pick up two refurbished Xtreme 2’s for the price of a single Xtreme 4. A pair of Xtreme 2’s played in stereo, gives a more immersive and much better audio experience than both an Xtreme 3 and the extreme 4, played on their own.
1:40 finally someone is bringing this issue up. This is an known issue for the go 3, clip 4, charge 5, xtreme 3 and boombox 3. glad they got rid of that.
I absolutely love the xtreme 2. Got it back in 2019 in the black Friday sales for £170 (roughly $220 at the time), and honestly, it’s one of the best purchases i’ve made til this day. I use it on the regular and the sound quality is much better than other brands out there. The only issue you could argue is that the design looks a bit dated now, but apart from that, it’s a beast of a speaker
Don’t see me up grading anytime soon. Bought the 3 and love it. When it takes a dump. I’m sure 7or 8 will be out. Use at work or make a part come alive with it. JBL for the win
I’m glad to see you can finally charge the X4 with USB-C, since the USB-C standard goes up to 240 watts. My X2 basically lives at work in the maintenance bay, because I don’t like traveling with the clunky power brick. I’m also glad they got rid of the need to use a door. I had to cut the hinge off my X2 so I could get enough grip to open the door. But now there’s a risk of losing it.
The EXTREME 3 sounds best used indoors while plugged in getting full power & placed near a wall. In battery or portable mode, it just doesn’t have enough power to produce adequate bass.😅
More than likely a money grab. They would make different connecting services over different years so that eventually you will have to upgrade to the newer speakers if you want the newer and better functionality, especially if that is what other people have and you actually use party boost
●Im a bit disappointed in the Jbl xtreme 4 while pairing this device with a Jbl Boombox 3..● Upgraded from the Jbl Boombox 1 and Xtreme 2 to a new Jbl Boombox 3 and JBL Xtreme 4. Boombox 1 to Boombox 3, wow, what a difference! Very satisfied!!! I always use boombox 1 and xtreme 2 together. At home and on the road when I'm in the car. And so, with the BB3 and Xtreme 4, it will be the same story. ●But here's the thing..● pairing BB3 and Xtreme 4 together doesn't sound nice when you pair them and play together at the same time. It's like putting 2 phones next to each other and trying to play the same song at the same time, but it just doesn't work out in sync. With the BB1 and Xtreme 2, I never had that problem. They sound fantastic together! I ordered 2 Xtreme 4. And tested them both. The Xtreme 4 itself sounds really nice! There is nothing wrong with it. But once the BB3 is paired with the Xtreme 4, it really didn't sound nice. One was worse than the other. There was a slight delay in the sound, and both Xtreme 4 had that. Also tested in the car. Noticeable delay in the sound. Very eggo-like. What a disappointment. So I ordered the Jbl xtreme 3 and paired it with my Boombox 3 with the party boost button. Problem solved!! Sounded great again! I also paired BB3 Xtreme 3 in the Jbl app. Also sounded great! Playing the BB3 and xtreme 3 together sounded like old times, just like the BB1 and xtreme 2 together. But a big upgrade when the B3 and Xtreme 3 play together is a much richer and balanced sound. No delay or eggo. They can also be much louder together than the BB1 and xtreme 2 when paired. I think the problem with the Xtreme 4 is because it no longer has a party boost button. Since both Xtreme 4's gave the same problem. A pity. But I am happy with my new BB3 and Xtreme 3. They are a dynamic duo together again. They sound amazing together! :)
@@brandoncervantes17 Man who cares. I am happy that this person found their soultion to their problem. JBL keeps changing what it is. Connect+, PartyBoost, and now Auracast? The XTREME 4 is the worst value in the entire JBL lineup! It's seriously overpriced and that's my only issue with it ! I got the Boombox 3 when it was on sale for $350 two weeks ago! As someone who has owned the XTREME 3, for the price, I'd rather buy two Charge 5s instead or a Tribit stormbox blast (much louder and much more bass) or the Soundore Boom Plus. The XTREME 4 is a great speaker; I would easily recommend it if the cost was $250.
For sure, I talked to a JBL employee though and they said that they Boombox 3 won't come into stock anytime soon though, which is a bummer since the Wi-Fi version costs a bit more and has less features. For the money of the xtreme 4 I'd just get a JBL encore, it's a different class of speaker but you'll get way better sound for less money, if that's not an option just get 2 charge 5's (as you said) or even 2 xtreme 2's if you can find them on ebay or something.
