I bought both Xtreme 4 and Bose max. I’ve always been a fan of JBL, not Bose since I’m not fond of them. Now when I tell you the Bose is the one to get I’m not lying. 😭 (Although this is just my preference) I kept them both for a while when I bought them, and throughout the day I would switch back between the two same defaults and volumes. When I changed the equalizer settings I feel like the JBL didn’t offer much difference from the default settings even on highest EQ settings. JBL was more loud, bright, kinda harsh, and lacked bass at the highest volume which I was surprised. It sounded shouty but not as bad as other JBL speakers get. Bose at default was far more rich, warm, and full. I feel sound wise, they’re fairly similar just have different tones. When adjusting the equalizer on the Bose, there was a dramatic difference in comparison to the JBL. I like both speakers since they have their perks. Bose is really pricey so if you can’t afford it or don’t want to pay for that price, get the xtreme 4. I personally like the Bose more even though I thought I wouldn’t like it. When I walked out of the room and closed the door, the Bose speaker was way more defined and full with lots of bass (you could hear it out of the house). I don’t think it lacked anything really. Given that the EQ settings are so dramatic when adjusting, you can easily tune it to your liking if you want. The JBL when I stepped out of the room was just punchy, couldn’t hear much bass, and lacked mids imo. I was surprised when I was comparing the two. It sounds better hearing them in person so if you can buy both to test out which one you like I’d suggest that. I bought 5 different speakers and settled for the Bose soundlink max. Although the battery isn’t replaceable like the JBL, it’s honestly not that bad since the sound is soooo nice. I tried many genres of music on both speakers, my fav genre is Edm in general. If you like Edm I’d say get the Bose instead of JBL, the bass for headbangers won’t disappoint at all. I ended up returning the xtreme 4 btw. (John Summit was not lying guys ☝️🤓) I still suggest buying both and try them out though!
I listened to the Bose in the shop and I was pretty impressed. The JBL sounds nice too but nowhere near as punchy as the Bose. The price though.... geez.
@@carlose6010 Yeah I went back and had another listen and the JBL sounds cleaner to my ear so I bought it. You’re right, the default EQ is pretty light on bass and you can definitely make it thump a bit more with tuning. I’m really happy with it overall and I’m glad I went for the JBL instead of the Bose.
I just bought the xtreme4 and I'm sorely disappointed. It really--I mean really lacks bass. I had either the orig xtreme or the xtreme2 and it was a lot better, had better bass and I was satisfied...until it died. I'm going to return the xtreme4, sadly. I wonder if the bose max has decent enough bass
After a running-in phase of a few hours with mixed volume and music variations, I only hear clipping when the quality of the music is rubbish... Otherwise you can manually adjust the EQ a little in the bass at full volume... People test this box briefly and send it back prematurely... Mine was clipping even at medium volume... Now I can turn it up all the way and it hardly ever clips... and it sounds SIGNIFICANTLY better than anything I've ever owned...An i had ...Jbl Extreme 2'3...Boombox 2 ...Motion boom Plus...Soundboks 4 ...Charge 4...5...Clip 5....etc etc
I started with bose then moved to jbl for 3 generations of products then returned back to Bose as of today. I went and updated the bose max to the latest 4.3 software and I must say 45% volume is freaking impressive. I live in an apartment so I dare not go any higher but I'm actually liking the sound on the max more then my former jbl boom box 2 even.
I tuned in for the jbl, but found myself thinking about the presenter. Sorry. She’s wonderful. Canada 🇨🇦 is lucky. I like the jbl , but a smaller version is more appropriate for me. 👍🤪🏳️🌈

It’s not about being “loud”
It’s about the quality of the sound at regular volume. The Bose is a great speaker for its size. I’m satisfied.
Bose just updated their programs. You can link two together in mono or stereo now
Bose for close proximity hi-fi experience listening, JBL for outside backyard party box.
There is no mention of replaceable battery for the JBL in this video.
Rtings videos are extremely poorly made.
Best test on youtube😍😍😍

Equalizer adjustmwnt makes a big difference with the JBL's sound.

Tribit Stormbox Blast half the price of the Bose. You’re welcome.

Very good comparison! I will get the 2 bose to pair them in stereo!
Thank you, enjoy! 😄
I LOVE MY BOSE MAX!!! BOSE IS BEST!!!
I have few jbl speakers and flip 4 plastic parts become sticky that deters me from buying any jbl. I will go with bose as it is built very well.
Bose is overpriced and overrated the bass is muddy not clean and it distorts and higher volume I wouldn't buy neither😢

"No highs, no lows, must be Bose" joke doesn't show up here at all 😄Good review!
Gosh they cost as much as a decent pair of studio monitors.
"You get what you pay for"
Both are crap🫢‼️
I will keep my Marshall middleton than these two speakers 😂😂😂
Nobody cares 😂
