Vocal Coach Reacts to HOME FREE - 'RING OF FIRE' ft Avi of PENTATONIX | Voice Analysis

  • Hello Singderellos,
    In this video, I react for the first time to HOME FREE and Avi Kaplan from Pentatonix performing "Ring of Fire". In this video, I analyse their amazing performance, explain and demonstrate their vocal techniques and I'll tell you what I think made it so great.
    Home Free and Avi delivered a spectacular performance once again, and the fact this is a Johnny Cash original just makes it extra special! The A Capella train keeps on moving and this stop was rather marvellous!

      In an interview, Tim mentioned that he wanted to do something with several other basses, including some that are lower than him. Unfortunately, he didn't give names. I think, besides Geoff and Avi, some of the suspects would be Elliot Robinson (former bass of Home Free and of The House Jacks and also the invisible bass of Das Sound Machine in Pitch Perfect 2), Alvin Chea (Take Six), Eric Hollaway (probably the lowest), some people from Southern Gospel, and maybe some people, he met at the London A Capella Festival. (There is proof on RUclips that Home Free at least once attended that festival.)

    • @Vratz
      @Vratz Год назад +2

      @@friedemannkemm63 I'd love to see something like that ! I don't know most of the names you gave, my knowledge when it comes to music is quite poor, but I really love low voices. And I already know that both Tim and Geoff can also sing higher for the harmonies so most of the range is covered.

    • @friedemannkemm63
      @friedemannkemm63 Год назад +10

      @@Vratz In the meantime, you might look for The Bass Gang, a group of young aspiring basses, also with large range. The bassiest thing, they did so far was Mad World. On that one, they also featured Elliot Robinson.
      But much like you, I am also waiting for the project, Tim has in his mind. 🙂
      (Of course, you can also search for the names and groups, I mentioned. Especially Alvin Chea from Take Six is one of the main inspirations for most a capella basses.)

When Tim hit the final note, I honestly thought the speakers would blow out. Not only did it shake the entire theater, it sent the audience (including me) into a wild, cheering frenzy. And also the solo version of his duet with co-writer Joy Williams, "All Is Well", filmed in a church in Utrecht, Netherlands during Avi's recent European tour. Of course, the acoustics of the church enhance Avi's natural resonance. And in case you weren't aware, Avi was an opera/classical major in college, and had been offered a position as a basso profundo with the Los Angeles Opera when he was recruited into PTX in 2011. ruclips.net/video/sNjbAAjF4Tg/видео.html

Yes, love how they go from 3 men sustaining that high note in perfect unison to the dual base lead in to the basement drop. While I do sometimes miss their stacked high range with Chris, adding Chance has made them so much more versatile. They are truly the best group out there.

      Well, having 2 basses, 2 or 3 baritones, 5 tenors, 4 people who can do some beatboxing as well as a world-class beatboxer, and 2 people who can whistle birds out of trees sounds a little like over-kill to me. ;-) Darn overachievers.

    This was the 2nd song I heard when I discovered Home Free 2 years ago. It is done in a reggae calypso beat. It showcases the higher & lower ranges of both Tim & Avi. That last note of Tim is impressive with how low he goes, but more impressive is how long he sustains the note. On the "Sing Off" Show (without Avi) Tim goes even lower & he impressed the judges so much that they gave them a standing ovation. And Adam once again was stellar in his vocal percussion.

The day they filmed this, they also filmed another Home Free video for Champagne taste on a beer budget (which Avi has a cameo in at 2:05 wearing the hat) and Chris said to Avi that they were going to turn him into a country boy by singing with them so much, so he gave Avi that hat. Someday we need the base singers of Pentatonix, Home Free and Voiceplay to all get together and give us there very best in a single song - either one written to feature the bass or one that they chose as being something they could do a creditable conversion into something that features base - but at the same time, to have enough available for each of them to demonstrate the full vocal ranges they have.

    You and Elizabeth Z. are my absolute favorites in this genre. Your reactions and analyses are stellar and your enthusiasm is unmatched. Your humor is one of a kind. What is it about all of these wonderful redheads that make them so fabulous? Their personalities of course! Thank you Lolli for your infectious smile and technical expertise!🥰

    The song is about a wedding ring being a RING OF FIRE. It's about how heated it can be both in fights, and bedroom.

    Hi. I rarely comment on these videos, but I just saw this one for the third time. It is so clever, so well-thought-out, so entertaining, and you are so observant, knowledgeable, and fun. Absolutely loved your Johnny Cash insert to make your point and your explanation of everything from Vocal Fry to Phonation Threshold Pressure. Thanks for leaving the Alexa incident in the video, too: Precious! Can't wait to see some more of your fine work - I am your newest subscriber. Thank you and Brava, Fairy Voice Mother!

    I’ve been watching reaction channels for a long time now and some make it all about them and not the music, the vocal coaches especially act like diva’s, but you are so different, you’ve become the main attraction without trying and I’m loving it, you’re gorgeous, your voice is insane and your knowledge of music and how the voice works etc. And you don’t take yourself too seriously I just love to watch to see you (NOT in a creepy way) I’m old enough to be your grandfather, you just brighten my day, please keep up the great work, Lots of Love from Australia. ❤️🇦🇺🙏🏼

    I could nerd out to Home Free for hours and hours and never get tired. It really is amazing. They did this song (minus Avi) in the Sing Off Competition to get a standing ovation from the judges. Adam is a beast on drums. He doesn't like the term vocal percussionist from what I understand but he certainly has the range and dynamics of a serious vocalist..not just a beatboxer. Tim can bust a subwoofer with his voice. I believe he has a six octave range that he can use fairly flawlessly whenever he wants. Mayday is a good one to see Tim really give his tenor range some serious work. Enjoyed your reaction I will be back for more :)

    Your knowledge and presentation skills about these groups are the best I've seen! I also follow a vocal coach named Tara Simons. She is very knowledgeable as well. But YOU, young lady, present and teach in a fun and unique way that after just 3 videos (Pentatonix - Hallelujah, Home Free - Man of Many Sorrows, and this one) I am now a devout follower!! THANK YOU!

    Ooh, please check out Misty Mountains, a collab Tim Foust did with Peter Hollens, another accapella magician. You will get the same bass goodness you did at the end of this song. Also, Geoff Castelucci covered it as well, just saying.

      I second this, and enthusiastically recommend them both. Not to take away from Peter & Tim’s version, but I personally enjoy Geoff’s more. Would love to see a double reaction… 👀

    Quite a fun reaction thank you. If you want to play further with the acapella basses all of them have done songs just harmonizing with themselves. Try their solo channels. Geoff Castellucci, Tim Foust both use multiples of themselves. Avi Kaplan does as well but he has gotten seriously carried away on his new album Floating On a Dream he does all the vocals. None of them stick to acapella in their solo work.
    Tim, Austin (high tenor in this) and Avi all live around Nashville Tennessee now.
    Avi did just tweet to the other two if they would like to do a bass trio. We will have to see if it happens 😎
