There are live recordings of this, where some of the guys have switched parts here and there. You really ought to treat yourself to a few of them. Most spectacular are the ones from Kearney, MO. An outdoor show was hit by a thunderstorm only a few songs in and they had to cancel the rest of the concert. People were huddled under some sort of pavilion or something and the guys decided to go through the rain and join them and give them one more song 🎶 watch out for the perfectly placed lightning ⚡️ (There are several recordings from different angles)
My mum has always loved music & Radio 3 was always on in her house. This hymn is one she has requested be played at her funeral. She had to go into a care home in February because of her failing health & sadly she also has dementia. She is happy there, but rejected attempts to bring in a radio or have the TV on. One day when I was visiting I found this by HF, (I'm a big fan), on my phone and played it for her. She watched the screen and it took a few seconds, but then she started singing along. A carer was hovering by the door to her room & then he came in and started singing with her - it was quite a moment, & her smile at the end said it all. Mum is 103 by the way.
Adam is such an awesome beatboxer that his voice often gets overlooked or mistaken for someone else. He has a beautiful bell-like quality to his voice.
This video of 'How Great Thou Art' is perhaps the most impactful of all Home Free's works to date. It has had over 28.4 million views. It's reported that many people request this to be played at funerals as well as at other special occasions in their lives. Viewers comments regularly report how much it has helped them through difficult times in their lives. There is something about the stunning location and the amazing, beautiful voices that brings comfort and joy. Glad you finally had the opportunity to experience it. Insightful reaction, as usual Jen. Gail L.
I’m not particularly religious but this version of the song really affects me. The harmony and beauty of their voices is just breathtaking. One of my favorites.
Thank you. You are one of the few reactors who comments how on nice Adam's voice sounds. He doesn't like to sing lead as he will tell you he's not a trained singer; he's self-taught. However, after 20+ years in this group harmonizing and singing a line or two now & then, he really can sing. When asked, Tim always says Adam has the widest range of all of them. He's also said if you give Adam a note sing, he can hold it forever (circular breathing training). He does a lot of the high harmony (as in this song toward the end). The Fries love it when we get to hear his wonderful Tenor and wish he would sing more often. Maybe some day . . . Love your channel and your breakdowns. You make it easy to understand what's happening and why.
You have no idea how long I have been waiting for you to do this song. It's one of my favorites. And it honestly took about 20 times hearing it before I could get through it without crying. But even now, it's a struggle. I hope you love this song as much as I do!!
Home Free brings a worshipful respect to their gospel music that is very reverentful and exudes honor the song is intended for. They are very intentional in this regard and it is not about them. Everytime I hear them sing a gospel related song, I feel like I was just in church and am worshiping right along side them. ❣
Some have said they prefer performances like Vince and Carrie's, but to me, those are exactly that - performances. This is a prayer. Their Amazing Grace with Peter is another.
These Home Free's weeks are so good and sooo needed, thx Jen for your sacrifice (😛), i can't wait for the other songs 😍😍😍, this one comes directly from Heaven.
This was actually my introduction to Home Free, the very first song I heard of theirs, and it was so impactful I went and found 'Man of Constant Sorrow' immediately after and have been hooked ever since 🥰
This is how I found Home Free many many years ago! My mom passed away and I was looking for music to play at her service. Home Free had just put this video out. I fell in love with this song and Home Free and have have listen to this song easy 100 times. Still makes me tear up ever time. I played the song at my Mom & Dads and sister services. HomeFree fan for life! Jenn, I just love you! You do a great job on your shows!!!
The chord structures so evident here, I think set Home Free apart from other groups. Such creative arrangements but this is possible because of the ranges and talents of each individual.
I just wrote my last will, and i want this song and the cover off Go Rest on that Mountain High to my funeral when time comes, the 2 off them are just so beautifull
Great analysis. This is my all time favorite Home Free song. I first saw this video when I was recovering after a car accident. It took the better part of a year to get back on my feet. Those wonderful Austrian Alps combined with the close harmonies brings shivers up the spine.
This was the first Home Free song I ever heard! I sing in a southern gospel group and happened upon it on U tube and at the time thought it was a regular group singing a cappella! In tears by its end and definitely the most beautiful version of this song I had ever heard! This started my infatuation with home free and the wonderful rabbit hole began! Great job Jenn! This arrangement was a perfect masterpiece! Low bass ❤ Kenneth ❤
So beautiful. There are some videos of live versions which are great but someone has already mentioned the Kearney one which just shows they don't need anything - not even microphones- to sound spectacular.
Hi Jenn! Love your reactions. If you liked this one then you have to see this one. Home Free Kearney, MO How Great Thou Art 6.17.2017 Complete Recording. They were doing a concert and a storm came up and killed all the power. I think you'll really appreciate this one. It's a must see. Have a great day!
I second that! Jen, you should definitely watch the Kearney performance. It is also very easy to see and hear who does what in that video. Tim surprised me when I first saw it. Now I know better and am no longer surprised, just gobsmacked😉
@@theothersteffi7113 I definitely agree! They blew me away with their performance with that storm going on and no electronics, which is a testament to their real talent.
There are multiple videos of that night, from different angles, so you can see who is singing what when. The passing of the high note (and the bass, too) from singer to singer is flawless, even in that impromptu performance.
I absolutely love this version of How Great Thou Art. Like many, I want it played at my funeral. Thanks, Jen, and yes, IT WAS ABOUT TIME YOU REACTED TO IT!!! J/K! 😂
yeah Jen why so long to react to this...only kidding...loved your reaction...i have seen dozens of reactors react to this and most if not all shed a tear during or after...this is a perfect example of close 5 part harmony all the guys playing their own part to bring the song/hymm to life in a way i have never heard before...the note extensions i noticed straight away as if connecting phrases...and the clash cords and 7th cords are just magical...when Tim comes in at the end with the low note it makes it sounds as if the final chord is being produced by a big church organ...thanks Jen xx
You know a group has made an impact on your life when you can pretty much remember the order that you heard their songs...for me it was O Holy Night, Man of Constant Sorrow, and the How Great Thou Art. Fell down into the rabbit hole after that. I think I have watched just about every reaction video of this group in addition to buying all their music I can find.
Sacred music is definitely not my thing, but the first time I heard this, it made me cry. Such an amazing arrangement by Darren. And a master class in 5-part harmony. Fabulous.
Masterpiece from the boys! This was played for my fathers funeral. It was his favorite hymn and HF were his favorite singers. He was 88.Shows you all ages adore these incredible artists
Well, this performance has something magical and spiritual about it for me, it's hard to describe the feelings it triggers. And also something personal, as I have been hiking in this place myself, a rather quiet place in summer in contrast to the winter as a well-known ski resort in the Austrian Alps. Thank you very much for reacting to it, Jen.
Angelic choir backed by a pipe organ. Tim and Chance hit us with the double bass at the end. Second song I ever heard from HF, after Man of Constant Sorrow. Third was Do You Hear What I Hear?. Fourth was End of the Road. And played each one multiple times because I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I became addicted, and down the rabbit hole I went.
This was my introduction to Home Free a few years ago ... the rest is history ! I am absolutely in love with these guys ! Saw them live a few months ago ... they're even better in person , if you can believe it ! Thanks Jen !
I was looking forward to this one and it was worth it. ❤ How Great Thou Art is one of my favorite hymns and this has to be the most beautiful arrangement I’ve heard. It Is Well is another favorite and the small part they chose worked perfectly. The harmonies are breathtaking with no visuals. Add that stunning location and it definitely stirs emotions. I’m glad you enjoyed it, too. ❤
Yes, that's Adam on the high descant parts. Believed he majored in Trumpet during college, which makes perfect sense for him to take those parts. Great reaction, and thanks for sharing your knowledge.
How have you not already reacted to this Jen! LOL! This is actually the video that started my HomeFree journey. Found it shortly after my Mother-in-Law passed away and we sand this at her funeral. Fantastic visually and sound.
I was able to introduce my Mom to Home Free the last year or so of her life. Mom, a Pastor's wife, sang and played the piano most of her life, and she loved this version so much. We played this at her Celebration of Life, and everyone was blessed by it. Easily the best version, by far, in my opinion. I could listen to this a hundred times a day and enjoy every minute of it. Thanks for finally getting to this, Jen...!!
I think this is one of the best versions of this song. Tim Foust's bass really carries the song. I found Home Free 3 years ago & love these 5 talented guys. Their harmonies are the best in the business. This is one of the few songs where you get to hear Adam Rupp's (beatboxer) sweet tenor voice during "It Is Well". And the scenery is awesome filmed in the beautiful Austrian Alps (my dad came from that area).
Yup… We just went to church. This one gets me in the soul, every time…and I love the mash up addition of It Is Well With My Soul and Adam Rupp singing a solo.
Exquisite harmonies! This was, I think, the third song I heard from Home Free. But it definitely was the one that sent me down the Home Free rabbit hole. And I’ve been a happy Home Fry ever since.
i was not raised in any of the religions of the book (and still am not) - but this gives me a feeling of what the rest of my family must feel when worshipping. Combined with that absolutely astonishing scenery - wow! Definitely watch the behind-the-scenes. i don't know if it was that BTS, but i recall someone saying that they rely on Adam R's amazing breath control for the high descant and sustained lines. Folks realising it's him up there . . . it's like in PTX Amazing Grace at the end when Kevin sings, a 'beatboxer punch' - "what? the beatboxer can sing?" 8D
Adam Rupp is not just a beatboxer...and now tou know through a lot of their songs where the very high note come from... like here in this song... in Listen to the Music, etc... Mr. Rupp CAN sing.
oh- the mental picture this just conjured up. i didnt' realise that's what she was saying - i was hearing what she *meant* about support and sound placement. now i'll never unsee it!
This is the most beautiful version of this song I have ever heard. Hearing Adam Rupp sing was a plus. Don't worry about the tears, this can make you cry he does it to me too. Love you reaction!
So happy you finally got around to this. I listen to it nearly everyday in solitude. I can't get through it without the tears. Great analysis, as always. Have a lovely weekend.
I don't know how you keep your composure. I've lost track of how many times I've listened to this. I am always speechless and unable to do anything other than cry. My eyes are filled with tear even now.
This is the first Home Free video that I watched. It was during the pandemic & I was feeling really depressed because of the lockdown. My sister shared it with me! I love the harmonies & the scenery. Breathtaking!!
I'm so glad you were able to see this video. It is the most beautiful arrangement of this song that I have ever heard. If I am ever down or in a bad place, I simply listen to this and I am transported to another world of happiness and peace.
Hi Jen, Great post as always. You might want to give a listen to "Mom " by HomeFree and / or "One Voice " by HomeFree and Billy Gilman. You might want to have your tissues handy.
Ah. Yes. This is a favorite for me.❤ And realy hearing Adam Rupp sing a solo line is so rare. And so good. And I think the highest top notes are him.... So pure. I was late to the party today for the release but I will do better tomorrow... I hope. 😅 Love your reaction once again.❤
There is a video out there somewhere of when the guys sang this. It was an outdoor venue and thunderstorms had rolled in preventing them from performing. But they wanted to perform something for the fans. So they gathered everyone in a small shelter and sang this, off mic with rolling thunder in the background. So impactful!! ruclips.net/video/SoVFPvp8Vh4/видео.htmlsi=P9vLKBIUGpl419eI
The best version I've heard of this song.❤ A song I grew up with because I come from a Christian family where my father and grandmother were pastors. My father, who had a beautiful voice, often sang this in the church and at home (in Dutch) . Home Free sings this so beautifully in a great scenery that I let my mother (86) hear and show it a year ago. Now she wants to listen to it regularly and has suggested it to her church community to show it there. How Home Free sings it, you don't just hear it, you also feel it. And it's great that Adam Rupp also sings here.
I made my mom a fan of them by showing her this video, so because this was the first song of them I played for her, I wanted it to be the last song I played for her by playing it at her funeral!
Other than the Voice Off performances (that I also watched live), this was the first RUclips video of theirs I watched. Other than their ethereal voices, this song always gives me the feels, having grown up in a more traditional (hymn singing) church.
This is one of my top favorites from HF. It still gives me chills even after hundreds of viewings. There is a live video out there of them singing it live. Their show was stopped because of a storm, and a lot of folks had gathered into a basement type room. The guys came in and did this one as a sort of consolation prize. It’s recorded on a cellphone, but there was only a couple of feet between HF and the crowd, so it’s a good quality.
Home Free taking us to church! I could also go on for hours about the glorious harmonies and Austin making the descant effortless! As a church choir singer, this is by far one of the most difficult hymns to nail as a soloist or group, but the results are transcendent! 😇🥹 Brilliant reaction as always, Jen!
Jennifer! I can't say 100% if I have heard this song by HF or not. Something about the setting is familiar. That's quite a nice tumbler you have there! Well the boys have an extra harmony piece for this one ... no beat boxing needed. Oh my! A tissue moment! And you were prepared! 😊 I love the ending! Floaty and high until Tim comes in with the base line and grounds it all. Just a great job by the lads. They never disappoint do they! Awesome reaction and analysis as always Jen.
Hey Jen - I cry too when hearing this hymn, as well as the insert of "It is well with my soul". Two of my favorites. Hits my heart and gives me such a sense of thankfulness for God's grace.
There is a live recording of them singing this with no mics...The concert was rained out, so as everyone went to take cover, Home Free wanted to at least sing 1 thing for them, and they did this....all crowded under cover.... ruclips.net/video/Q2HYQaoh80A/видео.html
My Mom sang in the church choir (Dad was the choir director) and she had a beautiful soprano voice but she NEVER sang ALONE!! She was in thd Rebeccas (the woman's organization of the Odd Fellows) and she got talked into singing this song by herself...she was PETRIFIED!! 😳 She did not read music (neither did us 3 girls) but we kept working with her, singing with her and helping her learn the words. When it came time she was a little hesitant at first, but she NAILED IT! We were so proud of her! This song, Old Rugged Cross (her favorite hymn) and Vince Gill's 'Go Rest High on that Mountain' (because it came out just after her death) are the 3 songs I can't listen to without crying. But I had to listen to this when it came out, even though it took me a week to build up the courage. All I can say is, Mom would have loved it. Jen, fantastic reaction. If you didn't cry, I would have been worried. 🥲 And to Home Free, thank you. ♥️
I really wish you would react to this live performance of How Great Thou Art. The guys were performing an outdoor concert when a thunderstorm rolled in. The performance was postponed. They suggested we try to wait out the storm under a pavilion up behind the slope of the amphitheater. Unfortunately, the storm did not pass. After a while, the guys walked up that slope in the rain and sang this song, standing on a picnic table...no mics, no lights just their five beautiful voices. This performance shows their talent and their hearts. here's the link Home Free Kearney, MO How Great Thou Art 6.17.2017 Complete Recording
YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!! One of my top top favs : ) ... and you see why!!! But how in the world? Just how did we --- I mean .... well, OK --- We've done this one now. And ohhhhh so good. Many moving parts here --- things not typical, yet they do it like it's an everyday thing!!! Thank you Be Safe

This is the most beautiful version of this song I have ever heard. Hearing Adam Rupp sing was a plus. Don't worry about the tears, this can make you cry he does it to me too. Love you reaction!
At last, someone reacting to this video which is beautiful in every way. Thank you
So happy you finally got around to this.
This song made me LOVE them! Still can not hear without sobbing. They do this song many times at Christmas concerts. Jen - love your reactions.
This is the first Home Free video that I watched. It was during the pandemic & I was feeling really depressed because of the lockdown. My sister shared it with me! I love the harmonies & the scenery. Breathtaking!!
HOW have you not reacted to this yet, Jenn??!! 😂😂😂 simply gorgeous, isn't it? Especially the sweet treat of a Lil Adam Rupp solo!! ❤❤❤❤❤
I already told my family when I pass I want that played. I listen to it a lot. Great reaction!
One of those where you can just close your eyes and enjoy the harmony
While not a musician, this feels like a choir of angels. Listen to the passion in their solos. I see that tear of joy.
Ah. Yes. This is a favorite for me.❤
And realy hearing Adam Rupp sing a solo line is so rare. And so good. And I think the highest top notes are him.... So pure.
I was late to the party today for the release but I will do better tomorrow... I hope. 😅
Love your reaction once again.❤
Jen, don't forget your tissues for this one. You may need it !
Soooo true.
Hi Jennifer hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
The best version I've heard of this song.❤
A song I grew up with because I come from a Christian family where my father and grandmother were pastors.
I grew up singing this hymn, in a family of singers. (And "It is Well with My Soul" as well.) This is easily the best version I've ever heard.
I have heard them sing this song few times in concert. It just gives me chills. To me the most amazing harmonies in any song they have sung
This was the first HF song I ever heard, been hooked ever since. 🇳🇴
the end of this song always gives me goosebumps.
You get a chance to hear Adam Rupp briefly sing. He has a great voice and should sing more, but I think he prefers to do the beat boxing.
He is originally a tenor and yes he is great 🙂
Other than the Voice Off performances (that I also watched live), this was the first RUclips video of theirs I watched.
Thanks Jen, so glad you got to this one! A favourite for sure; not sure I've heard this sung any better. #HomeFree never disappoint!
You are are right !!!
One of my favorite renditions of theirs!
This is their best song hands down. Masterpiece.
Hits you in all the feels!!!!!
I always wait for the pipe organ (Tim and Adam) to come in to finish it. A personal favorite. Thanks for the great analysis.
it makes you feel as though angels were about to descend and join them in the song
#HOMEFREE.....best version ever!
Definitely prepared this time 😁 thank you!
Hey Jen - I cry too when hearing this hymn, as well as the insert of "It is well with my soul". Two of my favorites. Hits my heart and gives me such a sense of thankfulness for God's grace.
Yeeeessss we never saw Adam Rupp how sing 🙂😁
Finally you react on this 🙂
Yup!
And to Home Free, thank you. ♥️
Beautiful reaction Jennifer! I enjoy hearing your breakdown of the different parts of a song. 🎹❤
Thank you!
