I have watched all Top Photographer so far. It is an interesting show. I would like to make a couple of suggestions to the format. #1, Keep all of the photographers in the contest until the end. When you kick one of the photographers off at the end of each show just because he/she has never done fashion photography, or landscapes or whatever the assignment is, is unfair to the photographers.
Suggestion #2 is a take off of suggestion #1. Instead of one photograph to be judged, the photographers should be allowed to have three photographs in the judging. The judging could also be a point system judging. As an example; five photographers, three photos each, total of 15 photographs each episode. First place gets 5 points, second gets 4 points, third gets 3 points, fourth gets 2 points and fifth gets 1 point. Six through 15 gets 0 points. The top photographer at the end of the show would be determined by the number of points. Highest wins.
That is my suggestion if a second season is done.
I like your first suggestion. The ones who were kicked off were there til the end anyway, so why not let them participate, and possibly win it all.
The second suggestion seems too complicated and by the last episode there would be a clear loser (or two or three). Seems like just a more complicated way of eliminating them (without actually eliminating them from the challenges). Perhaps a three (or two) strikes/losses and you're out format instead of points?
Sorry for the late reply. My idea for a points system is based on photo contests. I remember reading a long time ago that some photo contest use a point system for judging. A point system is used so that all of the judges have it written down on the judging form what they are judging.
For example, Did the photographer meet the assignment? 5 points for yes, 0 for no. At the same time though, The judges could award points by how close to the assignment the photographer got.
The points don't necessary need to be seen by the photographers until after the contest is over.
This show is so inspirational for me. I hope there are more seasons to come!
Was anyone else shocked at how Scott didn't even seem to consider taking a shot of the guy doing acrobatics in the same subway car as him (around the 4:00 mark)?
I wondered that too..
Arlene Baratta they can't.
I was! That is totally something I would have taken a picture of! I love photographing "Street Performers" because, especially if you give them a dollar or two, they don't mind one bit if you take a photo of them. Win-Win. I've never been to new York but I would definitely have a few bucks on me to give to the Street Musicians/Performers in exchange for photos
justNofar Ok, but why not?
Love how the episodes are brief and straight to the point. No drama.
I'm surprised that I'm enjoying this show. I'm not a fan of reality TV shows, but this one is compelling enough without the manufactured drama between the contestants. Good job to the entire team and good job contestants for getting along and appreciating each others strengths.
Andrew's "old man" was the best image of the whole show IMO. :)
Pleeeeease make more seasons of this!!!!!!!!!! Its like America's Next Top Model, through the photographer's lens. I couldn't stop watching it.
Wow ! Loved this show !! I just would love to see longer episodes because its really good show ! Congrats Adorama finally somebody created a show for photographers!
i think andrew would've nailed this :(
I appreciate this series. Let's face it Adorama and BH both offer good prices and service. Adorama wins the toss with this idea. Can't wait until next week.
I enjoyed watching Top Photographer, looking forward to a season 2.
Still love it....I hope you guys do it again!!
That bonus challenge at the end was great!
I was rooting for Roxy, but I feell she took way too many images and model/location choice were not the best..Off camera flash is almost a must for what they were trying to do. We will see what happens, but my gut is telling me they will lean towards Scott's shot..
Just watched all 4 episodes back to back , its 5 am now hahaha
Just here waiting for someone to bring this competition back. I'd be ALL ABOUT this!
really awesome. love the shot of the guy / newspaper. great to see photography win over photoshop for a change :)
can't wait to see the results!!! please please make a season 2!!!!
Can"t wait till the next season there is going to be a part two right ? RIGHT?
Tune in next week Tuesday at 7pm EST for the finale!!!
Adorama can't wait 🙋🏼💕
we don't mean the finale... but the NEXT SEASON !!!... There's going to be a SECOND SEASON, right?
Class act! Thank you Adorama, your programming and education is stellar. I had the opportunity to visit the store in Manhattan, I could have spent all day there. Top Photographer II in the plans I hope.
really love this series; maybe even more than i expected to and i already had high hopes. my only criticism is that the beginning challenges don't cater to all types of photographers and introduce a bias.
This episode was so much better than the rest! Loved all the images, and the bonus episode at the end was so cool too, loved chris's image :)
Another good episode also I'm still happy Nigel barker saw that I watched his show last week via my FB link
Love that "keep calm" Nice....
Great show...too short though. Get more contestants and have them all be specialists i.e. portrait, landscape, wedding, product, fashion, street etc. It would be cool to see contestants go "try hard" mode when going against specialists in said specialist's own genre.
need more episodes!!!!
I don't want this to end!!
Me either!
I am really liking this show.
Yea. I really like this show. Thanks for doing such a great job.
I love Scotts Idea of white on white. One of ma favorite things to do in photography when I want to experiment with light and push mi creative limits. So clean and stylized, is all about the lines, the light and the shadows, is like dancing with light. So fascinating and yet so hard to make it right.
Scott has this in the bag! Amazing shots bro!!! (sorry Roxy, your great too)
Love, love, love this! All the photographers, assignments, and critiques were awesome! So exciting to see such creativity at work!
Great show I hope they do another season or even do other countries. This show has inspired me to go out and get a DSLR camera.
I am so extremely happy for that final segment with the three who were eliminated! I'd love to see an "extended cut" or something of that!
Next season, every episode needs to be at least as good as this one.
I really enjoy watching these episodes, I'm really looking forward to next season.
they made some of their best shots in this episode. Please make more of these shows
Love this show. Can't wait till next week to see who wins.
As I said at the beginning of the season. This was a great outlet for a lot of photographers. Nigel a job well done! Can't wait for Season 2.
Episode 4: Top Photographer with Nigel Barker - Great video!
what do u guys think? I like them both, Roxy is great but Scott picked an amazing location.... could go either way.
Josh Segovia I'm pretty sure Scott just took it to another level
I really liked the previews they showed from Scott's shoot; amazing photos, but I'm sure Roxy has something stunning also.
Scott's raws could get published (in the right magazine).
Roxy's location(s) were great, and model was beautiful, and had a lot of opportunities, but I don't think she shot any of them right and or her processing, from what we saw here, seemed off for the subject matter.
I would put my money on Scott, I think he had a clearer idea of what his goal was.
Roxy seemed to be attempting a mashup of street/ found/ editorial found/ photography (if that makes sense) but without the necessary production to pull it off properly for the time frame.
the guy won he already miss his chance to lost the first time in ep1 when his pic come out burn
Josh Segovia I think Scott is going to win this contest. I think he chose a more interesting location than Roxy. Roxy is talented but in my opinion Scott is better, but that's just my opinion :)
I really like this show but would have loved to see the range of all of the contestants. The structure of this show should have been similar to that of America's Top Model where all the photographers got a chance to participate in all the challenges and the photographer with the best "portfolio" wins. I wanted to see more of their work especially in their areas of expertise. Watching the contestants prematurely eliminated per challenge was a bit unfair in my opinion. Also, maybe showcasing more of the features and tips/tricks of the cameras used during the challenges (maybe as outtakes) with the contestants would have been insightful.
Looking forward to next Tuesday for the final episode of this season and to see who wins. Great show and I hope to see another season in the future.
This is great !
I'm thoroughly enjoying the series! I'd love to take part in the next one!
Awesome show!
man! this is the best TV show I have seen in a long time, I Love to take pictures but learning from them and their mistakes makes my creativity on photography expand, cant wait for season 2!
Those photos gave me goosebumps! Incredible!
love this show
So much better than Masters of Photography! Far less pretentious and I have learnt so much... let's have a much longer
Series next year... please
I'm really loving this show!!!
Great to see a good photography show. Would love to see more on mainstream tv. I am sure it would get good audiences. Looking forward to the next series
I can't wait for the finale!
Love the show! Very well done...
great show!!
I'm curious to see why both of them decided to take portraits out of all of the things they could have shot... Like street or cityscape would have been cool but I guess portraiture is what they both were best at
Also I'm legitimately glad this wasn't the final episode. I'm enjoying this show way too much for it to end so soon.
Tolle Show und ich bin gespannt wer gewinnt.(Mein Tipp: Roxi) Bei sowas würde ich auch so gerne mal mit machen.Aber das wird wohl immer ein Traum bleiben! Danke für diese schöne Strecke.Top Adorama Thanks
Awesome. I think the Aries guy is going to win it's just such an epic place something you rarely see. Nigel you're the best. Lovely show Adorama
I really like this show! omg I hope there is going to be a season 2 etc. !
Roxy all the way!
Scott is so cute lol 🤣, got obsessed with this show from my photography class
great competion and waiting next season.
who else did not expect the small competition at the end of the show?
Scott great job. Fingers crossed. AdoramaTV I am waiting for the announcement of the next series.
I'd rather see them all stay in until the end. They would get points for each shoot.
Each contestant had such different personalities and skills.
The contestant with the most points at the end wins.
I agree they all should stay til the end, but instead of points, maybe a two or three strikes and you're eliminated format. As I explained to bigdave above your post, points seems like a more complicated way of eliminating people without actually eliminating them. The closer you get to the end of the season the less they'll be able to make up the points they would need to win it all.
Go Roxy!!!
Man this series make me smile
amazing show, keep up the good work!
this is tough!!! technically i think Scott has a strong images but i like Roxy images which i think Roxy is the winner :D
Love Chris' BW photo of the gentleman reading the newspaper. Great job!
I love this show can I please have info on how can I compete next season
I am so passionate about this, I really hope this show starts to Grow. I have been wanting to put together a Shoot Out on a local level with a judge panel and public gallery showing at the end.
You can only watch the GPP dubai videos So many times. (laughs)
Keep up the great work guys!
Great... great... great !!!!
Good luck Scott, my kind of shot ;)
Scott dude why didn't you do some shots of the subway dancer that would have made a good editorial shot.
I like Scott's photos because of the location, the choice of wide angle lens and the fact that I would've chosen the same location and lens if I had the chance. I do a lot of my model photo shoots with the 8mm fisheye from Rokinon since the Canon lenses are way too expensive.
I know it's irrational, but the way Roxy holds the camera DRIVES ME CRAZY. Haha
nah it's cool, watching it back it drove me crazy too. Ya live and ya learn
I kept screaming inside for Roxie to incorporate the Meat Packing scenes into her images. To start with it's an iconic area, grab someone in a butchers apron and mix him with the model.....
yah with her photo since she's a fashion photographer she was more focused on the model and outfit rather than the landscape. And since Scott is a landsacpe photographer it was is easy for him to incorporate a model with a structural designs using leading lines and landscape\architecture technique of shooting. I wish he would had a different color dress just to add more visual coloring but that's my opinion.
Great series. When will final winner be announced?
Scott nailed it.
wow Nigel got older. time flew by so fast. I remember when he was still young and I always watch america next top model. he was so handsome and he's still is
I like Scott's creative eye and positive attitude. If I where to hire a photographer from this show it would be Scott.
Ooooo this is going to be so hard. I liked both....I think I know the 2 images they picked.
4:03 to 4:05, there is the shot, there was the decisive moment, there was New York, there was the human connection... I know that it is just my opinion, my particular eye, but in that two seconds, I saw the photograph that would have made me drool as a photographer.
the subway always a best place to shoot, they both could've moved around with that much time to shoot in many different places but they stayed in 1 place smh to much open room to breathe
Since they didn't announce the winner I'm hoping Scott wins because I think his photos had better structure and composure.
That 20:49 executive Suite is HUGE!!!! ;)
Not really, but it does look good.
Love Roxy's personality but based off the photos they showed its no way you're telling me Scott did'nt absolutely kill that shoot
Hello friends from photography class :D
Scott FTW !!!
I didn't finish the video yet but I really love that dude photos so much.
Wunderbar
Scott shooting on my dream kit
That location that Scott used was a combination Architectural where you can put any decent model in and get attention. Rosy choice of location was more similar to stuff you can see in any city.
Roxy is bae... Greatest Photos i have seen
Omg Canon 11-24mm crazy wide :)
Who's the model who worked with Scott?!
Ben Newbond Nofar Avigdor 😊
justNofar n
I really like Andrew because I've been following his work for a while. This show though. Jesus...
I wish to sign up to audition go next season! What do I need to do?
I think Roxy will win
