lol, i knew exactly what happen when you ran out of fuel. Crap happens I did it once slabbing out a big oak log. you were lucky, I found it hard to start the blade again from the weight of the slab pinching down on the blade. great video!

Jason, I am really impressed to see you maximizing the yield from your timber. Some of these RUclips "sawyers" attack the log by making huge primary cuts that result in hugely thick flitches that get thrown away. Starting with thinner slices yields smaller, usable boards that can be utilized as stickers or odds and ends. We own a couple hundred acres of pines and hardwoods. We believe that we have been entrusted with this forest land and are responsible for it's maintenance and use. Thanks for setting a higher standard.
Thank you, Bob! It’s definitely time consuming to cut the thin flitches and then resaw them with the mill but I needed every board I could get. Sometimes I’m that guy that cut the bigger flitches if I’m in a hurry but I try to come back to them later.
Hey Jason! Nice video. When you are zipping down a cant, stop just before you get to the 5 1/2 or whatever width you are doing. Open the clamp, set your stakes, and put the boards that need to be edged in between the cant and the stakes. When you go down the 5/8ths or whatever, you get your next board and all your boards edged. The cant helps keep the boards plumb.

This video reminded me that I've got to get back to work on the cedar fence I started last fall for a hard a$$ customer (my daughter). Her fence has 350 slats! ¾x4x6'. No spaces! I'll fire up the mill this week and get that done, but I just finished maple syrup season in Northern Vermont today (Sunday 4-10) so I've been a little busy.
@@VTKingdomsawing I started the same way but with a Woodland Mills. I sold a couple live edge boards for more than I ever imagined and jumped into my LT-35. It paid for itself in 6 months sawing reclaimed lumber for a construction company. I got pretty lucky but opportunities are out there.

Hi Jason, great work. I watch all your vid's and learned a lot from them as well as being entertaining, thanks. I've had the large trees in my yard cut down and I am slowly milling them on a lt35hd. We've lived in this place for over 40 years. The majority of the trees were fir with a couple of cedars. The fir were up to 36" diameter. We had the trees down because of the increasing winds here. As well the trees had pitch oozing out in various places. They have some shake, explains the pitch but I have milled some nice lumber out of them. I made a couple of great swing sets so far. In around 11:10 of the video you pull the bottom board off the mill. I think because it was too thick but not thick enough to mill. For this situation I usually put a couple of the previously milled boards under the thick board and then a scrap board on either side, then clamp low. It allows me to mill that last board. It takes extra time but it seems that last board is often the best material. I have around 60 hrs on my mill and I am interested in your up coming mill maintenance video. Leo
When you get that tension, flip the can’t 180 and take a few off the other side. You will have to trip 1/8 or so to get that bow out but I have to do it all the time with poplar here in KY.
Cool, I make about a 1000 13/16 th 6 foot by 6 in fence boards each week with my LT 35. People love the thicker cut than the box stores. Washington State

Great video. Can’t wait until your maintenance video, does that include cleaning all the sawdust off the mill? Or just changing the oil and filters? I watch quite a few of you sawmill guys, and notice that most don’t clean off the sawdust around the pulley’s or open the blade guards and blow out that area. Just curious. Thanks for sharing. I always enjoy your videos. Do you really find it is profitable to cut fence boards? Home Depot sells theirs for $4 a board. By the time you buy the logs, Handle each piece milling, edging, and the squaring the ends. I have never thought it was worth trying to compete. But, I trust your experience. Are you making any money on fence boards?
Thank you, Bill! I always make money on fence boards because I’ve never had to buy a log. I got $3 each for these boards and the video will make money as well. I once cut $200 worth of cedar for a guy and the video was popular and made over $1,500. I factor that into my pricing.
I’m always cheaper. I’m very small time and can’t always accept an order but in this case, I check Home Depot’s price and cut 25%. I feel like I deliver a better product.
That is a mouth watering load of cedar, someone is a lucky chap.
Those narrow cuts,would make nice border and garden fence.

The tension I was getting was side to side. Not up and down. I don’t know if that would’ve cured my issue.

Did you add two sides supports? I must have missed that on a past video. I’m amazed at the beautiful cedar you have in plentiful supply.
The mill actually comes with 4 supports. Only two are powered unless you order it with all four being powered.

These are 10 degree double hard blades. They do leave a super smooth cut for sure.
