There is something primal about cutting wood. I think we should all get together and burn Georgia Pacific down and go back to buying lumber at our local Sawyer.
A suggestion: Get a chipper to chip up all of your off-cuts you aren't going to use. You can sell the chips to anyone that gardens, or many other uses on a homestead.
100 boards in 2 hours seems like a lot of production. Maybe not if nothing goes wrong and the logs are like lincoln logs. Although; I see that once you get to the magic 12 x 12 cant you can rock 'n roll.

You just need to put your “content stretcher” on your video!😬 that’s the one thing editing can’t fix. You got some pretty sweet tricks though. I’m sure you’ll make it happen.

Good day. My son and I enjoy watching your videos from South Africa. I frequently wonder what (if anything) you do with the sawdust that the mill creates and whether you use the timber off cuts to make fire.
I love to hear that your son watches with you. That’s great! As for the sawdust, I burn some of it in my shop wood stove. Most of the time I just spread it out to keep the mud away around the mill. The cut-offs that I can’t use end up heating my house in the winter.
Another great video! Do you sell your slabs, for burning? I just bought a L35 and cut my first 6 x 6 yesterday. I wish I could say that I made the best use, of my first log, but I felt lucky to at least get the beam that I did! Learning curve. Lol! Thanks again for your teachings! Thank you, William! Congratulations on breaking in your mill. I only heat with wood so I keep and use all my scraps. It doesn’t take long for wet cedar to dry enough to burn.

Another great video from yourself. A very welcome way to gently wake up on a bright Sunday morning here in Tuscany, Italy. Between your day job, the sawmill and editing videos you must work a savage amount of hours... Quick question - this video was 13.5 minutes long, how long in editing did it take to finish? Also would you be able to give a ratio of minutes of finish film to hours editing? (For example - 1 minute of finish film : 1 hour of editing) If you know what mean? Thanks and keep up the great work 👍😷
Thank you! This video took a little longer than normal for two reasons. First, I ran out of memory just as I was finishing and needed to delete all of my edited videos including this one to free up space. Major bummer. Second, all of those skip-edits where the mill appears to jump down over and over are time consuming. That being said, I probably had about an hour in the final version of the video. I use Final Cut Pro X and pretty much have it down to a science.
Aaaww its a pain in the arse having to delete stuff to make space. I have to do that all the time on my phone because of whatsapp 🙄 Yeah those skip edits were a nice touch. I'm surprised that it only took you an hour to do all of that editing. Thanks for telling me the program you use. Keep up the good work. You might see me post a video one day. Thinking of building a cat tyre bandsaw mill one day because the whole saw milling fascinates me. We'll see.
Joshua I thought about building my first mill too. I found Woodland Mills to be inexpensive enough to make it worth buying to see if it was something I could get into. I ended up building it into a trailer and making it mobile. I ended up selling it for almost twice what I paid for it brand new. Good luck with your endeavors!
Yeah I was thinking the same aswell but its easier to convince my good lady to spend a few hundred on a "project to keep me busy" than a few grand on "toy" as she'll see it 🙄. We'll see. It might just buy one and pretend I've built it by bringing out the garage piece by piece over a few days and weeks.

Nice. Maybe a dumb question but - would these boards be left to air dry for a year? Or nailed straight to posts as is?
These can go straight up. They’ll shrink a little but for outdoor use they’re fine.
doesn;t the fork lift forks stain the cedar boards? i heard it so from youse awhile back.
Yes. If you watched the end you see I kept the last two boards on the forks.

I’ve never had an issue with fence boards splitting.

If they’re too small to re saw into anything I typically burn them.
