The light bulb went on over my head when I realized the key to this is knowing the 13th card in advance... and that with a Stebbins stack even someone as slow as me can know what that is in an instant... which means the deck can be cut as many times as desired before you begin. A quick peek at the bottom card is all you need. The 13th from the top will always be the mate of that card, next in CHASeD order... for example, if it's the Queen of Spades on the bottom, the prediction card will be the Queen of Diamonds. I ask the spectator to cut the deck in their hands, and I take my peek as I table the deck.... so I'm seemingly not touching the cards at all. For the time on the watch reveal, I've had to swap my $500 Apple Watch for a $7.99 Walmart model, until I come up with some way to make my Apple Watch do the same thing. Great trick!

Brian, you should totally do a "card tricks or card reveals" episode. I notice a lot of "tricks" are just reveals using a similar method to other tricks, and that you could tack them on as any random reveal to any trick you do. So why not have a week where you go over the big differences and do some old tricks with new reveals, and new tricks with old reveals

This trick made my mind spin outa control...
    1. If you had the 13th card have a blank face, that would be crazy!
    2. A pet peeve of mine is at 2:21, Jim said "it was your choice." I always felt like I was being blamed for a random draw (like a cut) as if it was an informed decision.
I found that applying the 3rd person argument (destiny, fate, coincidence as the culperate), like in a spousal argument, prevents the other to be in a defensive state.
    3. Did Brian not get the wardrobe memo?

If you start counting backwards like 12, 11, ...,to 1 to make a clock formation, right after the other guy takes some cards off the deck, then you could cut out that extra move about making a pile of reversing the card order.

Rather than reverse-count the cards (to form the clock) you COULD layout the clock beginning at 12 and going backwards (counter-clockwise) around the clock. Especially if you are facing the spectator this will not seem unnatural.

The King is in the thirteenth position, which is why you're not allowed to take more than 12 cards.
The 12 for the clock were then dealt ONE BY ONE onto the table before being put into the clock shape diamond thing.
If he'd taken 12 cards, then the King would be the first to be counted, and last to be positioned, hence at 12 o'clock, and so on. This is from pausing at 2:59, and I legit haven't seen the video first or read other comments. The watch could be set at any time after the trick began.

I had been making this scarier than it has to be. The subtle count 12 cards face down actually does all the work of making cards in hand and prediction at the exact hour. Just have to practice because the tendency is to forget that step. if you tell yourself that this subtle step eliminates the need to do any math, it makes the step of counting dumb 12 cards in the 2nd step worth it.. 1 suggestion. Diamond Jim is terrific of course but he kind of boo boos in saying take off roughly 12 cards. This could result in an overuse of clock positions 9 through 12. I would open the field by suggesting a volunteer try to Fool the Magician by picking between 2 and 10 cards. I'm curious how people feel about laying cards counter clock wise still resulting in the remembered card in the correct position, but eliminates the step of reversing the order at the start.

You should be able to force them to cut a specific amount by trimming a bit off the edge of one card. It's not 100% reliable, but since the watch part is like an addition to the trick if they don't have the correct number you can just skip it.
The trick can also be fucked up if they notice their watch is wrong when you give it back after the pickpocket trick.

    • @RavenDravenek

cmck I was thinking just use a pinky break to hold down a certain card, and all cards above it should lift freely, they might take less, but if they just grab and lift, they’ll take all cards above the break.

@@RavenDravenek Sounds like it'd be easily noticeable if they try to take more when your pinky stops them.
Trimming a card is a more powerful effect because it happens automatically while they have complete control over the deck. It also fits the theme of the trick by being self working.

I know this is Brian's channel, but invariably, when he brings a guest on to perform a trick, Brian *ALWAYS* moves in and over talks the magician as he tries to "help" him explain it. No disrespect Brian, but allow the magician to explain things w/o interjecting your .02. Seriously, I just saw another video with _Diamond Jim_ and you can see him trying soooooooooooo hard to explain the trick but he is held back. You can see words about to be uttered, but Brian...you butt in and take over.

    • @Kman.
      @Kman. 4 года назад +1

@@scamschool Brian (or whomever reads/replies). No, I meant no disrespect, and forgive me if it came across as mean spirited. But to answer your question(s)...a critical analysis *WITHOUT* meaning to come off as being critical...there is a difference. So sure, I guess just an observation from having viewed the videos.
The other video where I saw the same interaction from you, I saw _Diamond Jim_ literally about to speak and offer instruction/explanation. He even had his index finger directed to a card and was getting ready to further explain, but you (Brian) chimed right in and cut him off in short order. Maybe allow the magician to point out e/thing they intended to do, and *THEN* offer up some further explanation/detail from another point of view? But when a 2nd person is kind of "barging in", it's almost like they're being ganged up on. I mean, after all, you introduce the magician and state it is *THEIR* trick, and *THEIR* performance, so hey...let 'em do their thing. Maybe offer up some closing comments after they've said what they have to say? I dunno.
But again, I'm just an outsider looking in, and I try to dial in on e/one's input and participation in the trick and video. No harm meant.
