"This process is hard. So is being broke." Nailed it. But only one option frees you eventually, while the other strangles you.
Dave always has a very unique perspective on things that you don't hear often. Love it
I think his friend Steve will die and then Bucky will need to man up to take his place and AVENGE him!
8 days after I grew my emergency fund to a full year of expenses, I had to use all of it to redo the pluming in my bathrooms and do a double bathroom remodel while the foundation and walls were torn up. It was a punch in the face to be back a zero again. BUT, IM STILL POSISTIVE AND DEBT FREE BUT MY HOUSE. Its hard but its worth it!
zach mills thank God you had the emergency fund for that expense and you didn't have to dig yourself deeper into debt!
Sorry to hear that. I’m curious as to how it all turned out. I’m currently going through the same exact thing. Only problem is, I’m still in baby step #2 with only 1k emergency fund. I filed an insurance claim and have a $500 deductible, but will have to come out of pocket for all the plumbing work. Reno’s should be taken care of by insurance “God willing”. Like you, I’m staying positive.
It is hard. It is even harder when you are doing it alone.
I know that's right...!
What? We are lone! Who else is there?
YUP
That’s how I feel as a single mom. Whew!
"It is worth it to fight through it" Thanks Mr Ramsey
When things went horribly wrong for me, i listened to my heart. I wanted to end this life.... I hated everything around me but my daughter.
I listened to Dave while driving a failing cab. Then one day, i watched his video about quitting a job. I listened to my heart and not only quit my taxi but i moved out of the liberal California. To become sucessful, you have to be weird. I did it. No regrets.
My wife and I started step 2 a few years and it was going great. So great we felt like we were given a raise each time we paid something off. Then we fell off the wagon hard. Now we're in more debt than we were to begin with. But this year we got back on the wagon and started going again. It is hard. When you're used to just doing whatever you want because you can put it on a card and suddenly you're not going out to eat, steak dinner night is now beans and rice night like every other night, it's hard. But I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired.
I'm also on baby step 2. I've found making spreadsheets and mapping out my goal and progress to be really helpful. I've also made a debt coloring pic for my wallet with a square for every $1000 of debt still owed, so every time I open my wallet, I am reminded of my goal. I made it on a posted note, and as a path like the candyland game.
This is exactly what I needed to hear right now. Keeping my head up, trying to pay off debt and pay for a wedding at the same time. It is so hard. But Dave gives me hope.
Single mom with autistic son baby step 1 and you are right its hard but worth it. Thanks
Zahra Kanji Stay strong and focused! Many blessings to you and the little one!
Zahra Kanji i can totally understand i have a Autistic daughter....life is extremely tough :-(
I keep having emergencies come up with BS1. I’m not going to give up.
Can not wait to be debt free!! This is exactly what I needed tonight! I just keep telling myself it’s worth it! We are already half way out of debt and was on track to be debt free this month. Hurricane Irma destroyed all of our profits for most likely a year 😞 Thank goodness we’ve been on Dave’s plan and have a years worth of expenses saved up for these type of hurricane disaster years #thankful
we're on baby step 1 and just had to fix my car again in order to pay our registration so this was very inspirational.
A car is not an emergency fund expenditure. Oil, brakes, tires, all standard for cars.
Drummergeorge so what do you suggest we had done?
Drummergeorge we just started FPU earlier this month and have no savings. In order to get the repairs done I had to take what we had saved for the registration and repairs plus tap into one of our lines of credit
agreed with the first comment. Those are expenses. Can you not budget for them?
pamperedgurl we just started FPU this month. I had some money set aside for the registration but I couldn't get it registered because it failed inspection, so we had to fix it to get it registered without late fees or penalties.. we also just started are emergency fund this month so no. . we did not account for this in our first budget.
If you quit now, then that’s as far as you’ll have ever made it.
Brian Howard Good one.
The secret is to save money. Once you have money most of your problems are "only money."
I will remember this as we rebuild from Hurricane Harvey.
Chandra Webb
and Irma
And Maria
Chandra Webb hope everything goes well for you dowm there.
Praying for strength and courage
The government has really left you stranded, tragic america. I wish you the best
Life is much easier paying cash for things!
Perspective is very important ❤
My favorite rant of Daves of all time. Thanks Dave!
I️ appreciate the positive words! I️ wish I’d have paid attention years ago! God bless you!
Thanks Dave. Needed this video to remind me that it is so worth it. I'm 19 yrs old trying to become plumbing apprentice and it seems like I opened up a sour can of worms trying to contact the union on their plumbing courses they offered and it backfired because my company was union and I was never told. Next thing I know the union is calling me giving threats saying I'm illegally employed and my company is in big stink. My employer has laid me off and I just saved up my first $1000 for my car loan. The loan is 10k and now I'm out of a job and fighting these payments! I'm waiting for more news from the union to see what's going on. Keep up the great content! Thanks
Did you become a plumber?
Strength and perseverance compas! You can do it!
Galbert-Kun orale homie!lol gracias
I'm right on time to watch this video. I'm going through it right now myself, by watching this video, the light bulbs just lite, I'm not long. thank Dave Ramey.
Found Dave on radio a long time ago.. God bless and have a great Christmas Dave, family and crew. Thanks for all of the years of great advice and support
Lost my job praying God comes through . Single mom with baby on the way
Praying for you to keep the faith and stay motivated. I hope your situation has turned around and things have gotten better for you.
Thank you Dave, I needed to hear that talk. We all need encouragement when Murphy comes knocking.
Stop giving Murphy that bat.
And stay away from crazy, and anyone named Tiffany. Unless she doesn't know where you live.
Just started baby step 2! I have a dumb car loan (about 20k) and then I'm debt free
Tyla Moody-Moore do u recommend getting a car loan? I'm a first time buyer been looking for a car
Karsten Hardeman Save up a little and buy a cheaper (but reliable) car and pay cash. No need to be in debt, especially 20k. Dave preaches this all the time.
xxgrumpyxx1 about how much?
Dave would tell you to sell your car and get a $1,000 one till you can pay for a $5,000 one in cash. Voila, no more debt
Both my trucks broke down my husband had an medical emergency but we have our fund emergency money !!! We’re still fighting but not wiped out!!
I think part of the problem is we want it over with immediately. I know I do. Even though it took years to accumulate the debt. Its gonna take a long time to eliminate it. Hopefully not as long as it took to make it.
Welcome to Life!
Learn to be greatful for what you do have and not what you don't have!
God has not promised skies always blue flower strewn pathways all our lives through!
God has not promised sun without rain Joy without sorrow peace without pain.
But God has promised strength for the day rest for the labor light for the way. Grace for the trials help from above unfailing sympathy undying Love! Amen!
Somewhere, someplace, there is a Murphy watching this upset. Poor fella.
We finally got our credit card paid off, then our car needed new tires, wisdom teeth bill and vet bill were huge. Just can't get ahead.
Karen Hardie, the wisdom teeth and vet bill I agree with yes, and unless you take the interstate everyday you don't need new tires, get used ones installed at $25 a piece, keep a can of fix-a-flat in the trunk, and keep the AAA membership renewed. I will never again spend $1000 on freakin' TIRES!
Now we are told our big tree needs to come down at $950 cost. It has that ash disease. I guess you just have to keep fighting.
Thanks Dave,
I needed this...
Needed this. We've had BS3 complete twice, and now we are getting knocked back again before even getting back to a full emergency fund. But we can handle it!
It is hard, keep going, you have got this, you can do it, you are going to LOVE what is on the other side of the baby steps 😀🙏💚
This is some real motivation here!!!
Failure can not cope with persistence.
Thanks for the inspiration Dave, I'm working on baby step 1 this month.
Preaching!
4 years and nowhere with emergency fund:
Car breaks down
water heater breaks down
car breaks down
rent car with emergency fund while saving for car repair
medical bills
spent money on car earmarked for property taxes
car breaks down
property taxes past due, house up for tax sale (4 years in a row)
dead tree in back yard 20 ft. from house must be cut down
medical bills
college messed up on grants and had to pay for daughters course
dog dies, spend mortgage payment
property taxes due, mortgage company pays property taxes, immediate default
house in foreclosure (ask for mortgage modification)
mortgage company does not answer phone calls
Single mom (daughters father retired and move out of state and forgot he has a daughter).
Daughter is autistic adult.
Mortgage payment is less than rent.
Just can't seem to get ahead but keep trying.
I missed a lot in between, murphy's bat keeps getting bigger.
I got a new job and I hope murphy doesn't buy a bigger bat!
On the dead tree have you tried asking people to cut it down for fire wood , A tree limb fall down at my Gradma's and someone that used fire wood cut it up and haul it away for free,
On the rest I'll be praying for you.
It seems that you did not pay attention: when you are broke, owning a house makes you "broker." Please start renting a small place and get rid of the useless cars (drive a simple to drive simple to fix cheap car)
Ann Korn good luck with everything
God bless you!
Maybe you're tired to hear this, but give God a chance! Put Him first....I'll be praying for you
Wow, my transmission took a dump just a few weeks ago about the same time I got laid off.
See you when we get there Mr Ramsey.
Hey Dave do you advise people outside the USA and Canada?
I dont think anything would change because you live in another country
hi Ramsey,
how can I get the same thing as America as far as Financial peace university in the United kingdom.I just saved 1000 pounds for step 1 and to embark on the step 2 .
Try searching youtube videos for more information. I think you can purchase the program (in books).
From the uk too, we are on baby step three. I used RUclips and the internet to find the information that I required, I brought his total money make over book that I recommend.
Can you start a class in your area? Total Money Makeover will help but being able to share experiences, tips and tricks, and the support of others in the same market will help keep you motivated :)
Discipline.
so hard...
Thorns and thistles like the Bible talks about. It's part of the curse. We all get it.
We are all going to die. But not today.
In step 2... Down to my last and biggest, i am a bit scared but i am also excited to kill this one. We also cash flowed my father's operation just a couple of weeks ago, my emergency fund got depleted a bit but we are ok, if i didnt have that emergency fund in place that operation may have thrown me off step 2 but luckily it didn't, that emergency just became an inconvenience but it's not something that caused us drama.
Ron P. Keep that positive mindset and you'll live like no one else in no time👌
leo8780 thank you, i should be finished by 2nd quarter of next year or earlier.
Come on Dave! McDonald's? Really? I'd expect you to at least aim high and open a Chick-fil-a in the Bahamas. ;-)
24 people are MEDIOCRE
This is worthless.who has 400k and no debt?
