I'm truly amazed how people just found Dave Ramsey now when he's been around for three decades on radio stations in every city and has multiple books out and has been a frequent guest on many news and talk shows for over 20 years.!!
I have always been money conscious, but recently I have been realizing this message is applicable to other parts of life, especially food. When I starting gaining that belly weight, I knew it was directly related to the foods and drinks I chose to consume, and if I wanted to get rid of it, I had to change my habits. Habits are key.
I found Dave Ramsey's channel a few weeks back and now I'm hooked. Dave motivated me to start attacking my student loan debt with a vengeance. I ran the numbers and realized that with a few sacrifices, I could pay off my student loans in under 4 years. I probably would've kept that debt for a decade otherwise. I watch now just for a bit of daily motivation.
May I ask, without being too personal, how has that gone? I'm genuinely curious, because I'd like to read someone who has either had complete success, or who has improved his situation in life.
It is a bit ironic. It's like Dave says, "That's how they became...RICH PEOPLE." If you make $200k a year, but spend $250k a year, you will have a lot of stuff, but (generally) a lower net worth than someone who makes $50k and spends $20k/year.

I always tell my sisters it's not the situation that is bad it's how your react to it that shows who you are. Dave is speaking my language. Actions equal results. I grow up in a port household and went to school and got debit. I certainly understand where Dave is coming from. I never let my environment dictate my actions. I do things so I can better my self. People need to choose their actions more careful especially dealing with money.
Thank you papa ramsey.. i've been at digging myself out of a debt hole for 2 years and just got soaked for 9k in taxes.. it was so disheartening.. This really recharged my batteries today. Thanks for continuing to do what you do!
I love Dave Ramsey! I’m a single Mom working a full time job and a p/t job and I’m knocking out some major debt cause I don’t care what other people think! It’s actually liberating!
I cannot say making a lot of money has ever meant a lot to me, but I like the principles that Dave Ramsey preaches, because they're so simple to understand.
Sometimes I think Dave is close minded about difficult situations and different starting points. For example his "You are not a victim" car rant I liked the positive message but felt it diminished some very difficult circumstances. This rant I think is extremely well structured and does a great job of encouraging people to go as hard as they can while acknowledging they may be forced to start from a disadvantage. Nice work Dave and team.
What I see is finances ties into so many areas of life. It can give you a happiness and liberation and security or it can give you sadness, stress and desperation. Its all in your power and within your hands.
Thank you for talking abt obesity while I enjoy a chicken fried steak meal with mashed potatoes and corn for lunch with an orange kick start to drink! Hahaha. But anyway, as I go back to having two jobs working 60-80 hours per week plus a part time nursing student, I am going to save this rant in my favorites so I can hear this over & over again so I can learn and stay motivated to living less & creating a budget. I was sick with a neurological disorder for abt a year and a half now & I am ready to do your plan sir Dave!!! Thank you!! :)

Just got done with a great read on this exact subject. 'Stop Acting Rich' by Thomas J. Stanley talks about this is great detail. Aspirationals is the term it uses for those who aspire by over consumption of high end automobiles, homes, wine collections, liquors. I would highly recommend it.
Its funny that most of my life I have been doing stupid things trying to get rich; now Im so deep and financially crushed that I just want to be able to pay my bills and have no debt, thats my dream now. What a fool I have been!! in the process of getting there

Demographic privilege is a very real thing - race and gender can very much place barriers when people expect you to assert yourself less and punish you more. But barriers can be tricky but not impossible - find a way around or another way. Money is one of the better examples of self sufficiency

Right, but if you have beautiful flowers and vegetables in a garden one might be more inclined to take care of the weeds right away. Even take preventative measures to stop weeds from popping up in the first place 👍.
Dave doesn't look so bad to me but if it ever become a problem mix one egg and 1 tbsp of oil to grow hair. If you know friend with oily hair that grows so fast is half of the story the protein is the other. Trust me it works. It took me 2 weeks to grow mine it also shine it, gets rid of the fizz. For you Dave it may take a little bit more than 2 weeks. Much faster than 6 months

No one from the North actually calls themselves a Yankee. If you've accepted the label of Hillbilly that's fine but I've never meet anyone who has accepted the label of Yankee unless perhaps it's there favorite team.
I have a car. I have 6,500 to pay on the car. The loan started off as 27,769. I can sell it for 7000. Would it make sense to sell the car. I'm so tired of paying the note. It's a Dodge Challenger. Or should I just continue to chunk extra cash at it??? Someone help!!
Khaltazar I found out about Dave in October 2016. Since then I've paid 7,000 dollars on it. I went from 14k to owing 7k. I also make 20k per year. It was a 72month lease. I would owe about 12.5k if I hadn't been so aggressive towards paying it off.
Patrick Patrick Pay off your car. I spent a little over a year chunking all my extra money at my 2013 Sonata. I wish I had started sooner but I paid it off 2.5 years sooner and it feels so liberating to finally not have that car note and wasting so much money paying interest. You've already paid so much for your car so far so you might as well finish off the payments plus chunk whatever you can at the principal and keep your car. if you sell your car for $7000 you'll have to buy a used one for $5000 plus you will have to pay the taxes on it. selling your car would have made sense years ago but not now.

Hi dave! i want to ask what if i am investing in the stock market but i still got $250 in debt and i just have $300 savings and im planning to save more to get to a $1000 emergency fund, i want to know should i stop investing for a while then complete first my emergency fund and get out of debt, or i will still invest but with a smaller amount of money and put the rest to my emergency fund and pay my debt? i hope someone can answer me :) thanks dave you inspire me so much!
Your doing a GREAT job!!! Stop making payments on the debt UNTIL you save your beginner emergency fund of 1000 dollars and THEN resume paying off your debt in order from smallest to largest, attacking the smallest like an animal while paying the minimum on all other accounts, this is the debt snowball, hope this helps, good luck!!!
Dave's baby steps is pretty clear on this. Step 1 is to build $1000 emergency fund. Step 2 is to pay off debts. Step 3 is to expand the emergency fund to 3 to 6 months of expenses. Only after that should you invest according to his advice.
