My wife drives a specked out X5 and I drive a Touareg. I would not trade her for the X5 for any reason. The Touareg is a much better driving SUV and off road SUV every day of the week. Then you add that the X5 has been extremely unreliable. Both have been driven just over 160K miles now. The Touareg feels like it can go another 160K but the X5 feels like it will die any day and take my wallet with it.
I want to get a used one of these now, up to 130,000 km and from 2016 onwards, it looks like the best car for the price-range (in the used market). The Cayenne with the exact same features, if you buy a basic to medium Cayenne you have nothing extra. The Cayenne has some extra stability systems and sportier suspensions but only on the S and Turbo, the basic one is exactly the same systems. Those go for 10-15k for the same specs (acc, 3.0 diesel, heated seats, air suspensions, etc). The Q7 would be nice because it's the new VAG platform but same issue, around 10-15k more for the same mileage, year and specs. And with the Touareg you'd still be able to do some basic off-roading, forest roads, winter roads, unpaved roads, that kind of stuff. And in the moose test seemed very stable.
As far as the front armrests go, I think they are split because : let's say front passenger wants something from the storage below and the driver has to remove his arm from the armrest. In this way passenger simply opens his part of the armrest and takes what he needs :) great video keep it up. XC90 my favourite so far
your English has improved a lot. also the camera work is getting better and better, But you used to be more critic of cars in the past. I guess after all the hating you received you had to tone it down.
Indeed. It's one of those cars I should have bought. When the new gen was arrving, I saw one of these at the dealer for less than 50 thousand euro. A few years later I paid this much for my MINI Countryman :)
@@MarekDrivesENG I managed to buy one for 3 years now, very very unexpectedly good. I got the offroad package too, it's unstoppable offroad but can also hold 200 km/h easily on a highway. Did not expect it. Fuel consumption is never under 11-13, but I always keep it in sport mode.
lets say you dont have the small amount of 70.000$ you can always go for a solid tdi 3.0 6v 2004-07 model for about 1/10th of the 2019 models price point ;) reliable of course with mid mileage to early mileage being best and costing around 7k and the v10 costing you maybe around 10k.
Well everyone talk about a boring interior and as well as boring drive towards the VW. XC 70 is an option if you ride mostly hiways -- it is long and low, good for a comfort drive, especially on the turns or takeover maneuvers. Just remember when buying another X5 -- the higher your car -- less comfort you get. Thanks, Marek. I was happy to find your chan. Hello from St. Petersburg.
DoriKei XC 70 is my favourite Volvo, and probably one of my favourite cars. I should do a review, but they don't have it on the press fleet any longer. Shame.
Marek Drives I had a personal test drive of XC70 at the dealer center here in St. Petersburg. Comparing to the B5.5 Passat which I drive, it feels a bit "farther from the road" and you have to get used for its just a bit less sharp steering, but after a few minutes of driving you just cant tell the difference. Everything else -- this car feels just like a piece of me. Most likely it will be the next one in my car history.
Have ordered an XC90, but I really like the Cayenne and X5. The Touareg is nice, but I think for me, it would be interesting if it was alot cheaper. I think the V6TDI makes this car too expensive. If they did a 2,0TDI 190HP I think the price would drop to like 45 000€. Still a lot, but much more competetive.
You think? Both GLE and X5 come with 2,0 and 2,1 liter diesels. The Touareg also comes with the 204hp V6 TDI, with the weight savings of a 190hp 2,0TDI maybe the four cylinder would be faster than the V6?
Krister Falch I'm not sure it would save enough weight. At the moment it's heavier than a straight-six X5, not to mention an I4 X5. And both are heavier than the XC90. BTW, AFAIR the XC90 225 hp diesel felt sluggish compared to the xDrive25d X5. The power difference and 0-100 km/h difference is insignificant, but BMW has around 10 percent more torque, and in a broader rev range, making it more flexible at speed. That said, although the 4-cylinder SUVs feel adequate in city driving situations, I would like to have the option of choosing a bigger motor. Or going hybrid, without having to pay top dollar. T8 will be the range topper, which will cost a fortune :/
Maybe in the nextgen Touareg will be lighter, cheaper and with a 4-cyl alternative :) Because of taxes on hp, weight and CO2 here in Norway, the 204HP Touareg with less equipment was more expensive than the fully loeaded D4 AWD Inscription I ordered. My XC90 topped out at 101 700€, a Touareg with less options at 103 900€, and the X5 with same options as the XC90 at 108 400€. At those prices the Touraeg is way to expensive!
Krister Falch Taxes/incentives will force car manufacturers do downsize. That's for sure. In this respect we are lucky in Poland, because the only thing stopping us is the price of fuel. Don't get me wrong, the Touareg is still quite expensive here, but not because of tax reasons.
Little bit cheaper then X5. Engine isnt as powerful tho. Not bad car all dep. how much both would cost after adding essensial options, warrenty etc. Personally I care about ride quality on motorways and B roads, noise inside the cabin and enough power under the hood I can overtake on motorways and practicality/space. VW does look promising compare to rivials. But official 40mpg combined isnt good figure. More like 28-30mpg. Unless you drive without any traffic.
LOL. In my country (Netherlands) VW starts from 78.000 eur and X5 costs 10000 less. But x5 is just better car. By the was, Cayenne diesel is whopping 120k eur o_O
Wtfck. I watched this video and video was shown only Porche, i think this is big advertising for porche. Touareg was moved to second row. I Hate it. !!!
For me reliability is most important so I will get a Toyota SUV without hersitation. The toureg to me is a turd 💩 with a toxedo(a good looking piece of shit)

brutallbiker Good point, I haven't thought of that.
Informative as always, thanks.
I have Touareg 2015 with 70 km 3.6 V6 . just amazing

Touareg all the way
if you only have 70.000 € to spend for a new car.... i know, its tough.......... :-)
Great suv

Nice review ...the new Volvo xc90 and the cayenne are my favourites SUV
In USa here, i like i, in v6 gas form, i think, and am comparing against P. Cayenne around '11, and Bmw X3 for a smaller option, or perhaps Audi Q5.
I prefer the Audi Q7. It looks the best in exterior and interior, it isnt the most expencive and it has good 3rd row space.

+Krister Falch Too heavy for a 2.0 TDI. But I agree it is on the pricey side.

Those back seats actually lock when u lay them flat

Porsche macan turbo for showing off or toyota land cruiser 60th anniversary for its versatility
Marek, Q5 or X3?
Julian PC I don't know. It's been a while since I've driven one or the other.
Why doesn't anyone do these reviews with American specks????????
Apparently very few reviewers live in the US :)
LOL. In my country (Netherlands) VW starts from 78.000 eur and X5 costs 10000 less. But x5 is just better car.

Bmw x5 !
Why does no one have the 4.2 Fsi v8?
Because it was quite rare, and AFAIR offered only in some markets.
Toyota Highlander
Çok güzel otomobil.
I will have the xc90 insted of this, no brainer.
Wtfck.
I watched this video and video was shown only Porche, i think this is big advertising for porche.
Touareg was moved to second row.
I Hate it. !!!
I'll take the Jeep Grand Cherokee.. thank you.
Such a confusing review..
4 Zone Climate Control and heated rear seats
Range Rover. The best. Not considering the price.
+Doctor Maiorescu Viorica-Virginia Probably better for off roading, than the Touareg. But Touareg is brilliant on road.
For me reliability is most important so I will get a Toyota SUV without hersitation.
The toureg to me is a turd 💩 with a toxedo(a good looking piece of shit)
The Touareg actually is reliable and has no issues. Just a dumb fuck Toyota sheep who likes outdated shit.
Toyota is very good car but Touareg is better. The feeling when you drive Touareg is much different than when you drive Toyota.
