So at first the moderator made it look as if the Sikh religion is trying to prevent the couple from getting married when in actuality, they are allowed to get married but the husband is prevented from partaking in certain rituals. If you are going to argue against someone, you should be civil enough to allow the other person make their point. These people should all be ashamed of themselves.
Jagmeet Singh, it was REALLY brave of you to stand up and say what needed to be said , even though they didn't want to hear it. It was painful to watch them cut you off , but you did the right thing.
@@trr-therationalrealist1025 Bravery. To the hell with that so-called fake courtesy when you think this is the only chance I have to raise my voice against something wrong is happening.he did right. He knew this is the only chance he got and he did it.
Yes I have a lot of love for the Sikh faith. Respect to Jagmeet Singh. I get him. What I would say is hopefully God can come down one day and unite every faith. Some people need to see to believe.
So everyone apart from jagmeet got an opportunity to speak without getting rudely interrupted, they ask a question and when he tries to answer he gets shut down. Your having a sikhism interfaith topic where a sikh is not allowed to have his say. Sian Williams, anita? And the jewish woman are talking to jagmeet singh as if he is a child. How dare bbc treat jagmeet singh in such a poorly manner.
Brave thing to do. I visited a Sikh temple when I was a child and they couldn't have been kinder to me. I bowed even though I wasn't forced and I must say, the Sikhs do amazing work in the UK. Feeding the homeless is just one of the things these people are known for. Thank you, Sikh brothers. This Englishman respects you and appreciates your contribution to the UK.
why did they invite him,if they are going to interrupt while talking,Jewish lady was so wrong and sounded so stuck up.you don't get to talk about marriage or love after 2 failed marriage.
yea it,s so easy to fall for media tricks.i think he should have raised hell when she said "Sikhism was born out of hate"..huh so ignorant.i was like you got it twisted.i think that was the whole point to provoke him and in that sense he handled well.
Unimaginably frustrating. Good on you Jagmeet Singh Ji, absolutely disgusting watching them bring you out only to humiliate Sikhi and Guru Ji without letting you defend yourself or Sikhi. You did wonderfully, in spite of their efforts.
Exactly! Jagmeet Singh said right at the beginning that nobody forbid them to get married. it's just that, they can't take part in the anand karaj. It's a ceremony between 2 sikhs and Waheguru. the whole time they were going on about "love conquers all" blah blah, and they didn't even make any comment to that one answer from preeti something I think, where it clearly states the same thing. ugh... and I had such high hopes for bbc
The lady moderating the show did an absolutely horrible job. She should have given him a clear min or so to explain himself and reprimanding the others that interrupted him.
Respect to brother Jagmeet Singh for speaking out. Always stick to your principles. And when your brothers are being killed any where in the world for being true to their faith the least you can do is speak out. RESPECT!
+Sahej Walia Brother I totally agree, throughout the entire video Bhai Jagmeet Singh Ji was being rudely interrupted those ignorant people. This was horrible, they didn't respect Jagmeet's perspective as they took his issue sarcastically. Brother if you noticed as well, the women hosting was patronising Bhai Jagmeet Singh Ji, she was behaving very one-sided; she didn't allow Bhai Jagmeet Singh Ji to address his explanation without an interruption and if you play back near the beginning, the white lady had questioned Bhai Jagmeet Singh Ji whilst he was making his point and the women hosting the channel didn't argue with the interruption. But when Bhai Jagmeet Singh Ji had tried to correct the white lady about Sikhi, the women hosting had imprudently demanded for Bhai Jagmeet Singh Ji to stop and bare to white lady's misconceptions about our eternal, beloved Guru. She was no respect for our beliefs whatsoever!
Watching this again in 2018 i'm still shocked by this. The BBC were so biased on this topic and the presenter portrayed Jagmeet Singh to simply be something he is not. As a presenter you should not be biased and should accept both views but it was clear there were 6 against 1.
This whole conversation was a complete sham as they didn't even let Jagmeet Singh even address the points that Mrs. Kapoor made and he was simply steamrolled over by the rude host, jewish lady and hindu lady. If Mrs. Kapoor is a hindu, how do her comments about Sikhi or the Anand Karaj ceremony have any bearing as it is likely that she does not possess the proper knowledge or experience in regards our faith. Case in point, her equating the Laavan with walking around the Hindu fire. Also, the host had her fact completely wrong when she said that we have no text explicitly saying that it is only 2 Sikhs that can undertake Anand Karaj.
+Anurag Gosain It's better that way than to have unity among all Sikhs just for political reasons. Regardless of what lies are peddled in the mainstream, there is a jatt tradition which has differences from mainstream Sikhism, there is khatri Sikhism, Ramgarhias have their own practices, mazhabis have their own temples, etc. People who identify as Sikh aren't all the same in their beliefs or practices. Also, the number of people who identify as Sikh changes depending on who's in power. Look at how many people reported Sikh religion as their religion under Mughals, then under Ranjit Singh, then under British raj. Different groups change religious allegiance according to who will be advantaged but the underlying beliefs under the change of colour or flag are empty. British Sikhs are much more naive about this than Indian Sikhs.

And good on Jagmeet for having the balls to stand up for an issue that he holds deep in his heart. Enough respect to you Jagmeet, from your Muslim friend Hamza.
Too right. From what I've noticed Sikhs usually tend to suck up to goras the most, and please dont take this as a dig. Im just saying from personal experience. Its like they try so hard to please everybody and conform to their culture and forget their own. Little do they know goras are always going to see you for what you are anyway, regardless of that Christmas tree being in your house.
Go to Canada for example, you'll see Sikh kids with names like "Jennefirjit" and "Jessica Kang". If that aint forgetting who you are, then I dont know what is.
You cannot be buried in a Jewish cemetery if one has tattoos, I’d be curious if she would publicly lambast that archaic and exclusionary belief or if she is just a hypocrite.
Huge respect to Jagmeet for showing what Sikhi is about. What Waheguru says and the Gurus taught us should be practised. Sikhi is a beautiful religion who accepts everyone from all faiths and non-faiths. Two Sikhs are allowed to get married in the eyes of Waheguru because its the union of two souls. That's what marriage is. Jagmeet, you are an inspiration to me, and we should all stick up for what we believe in, otherwise beliefs will always remain unnoticed and untouched. Waheguru Ji Kha Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh 🙏🏽
Im so sorry you had to go through that Jagmeet. We just have to accept that there is untruth in the crowd. We don't need non-Sikhs to affirm what our religion teaches. Anyway you handled the situation very well. Remarkable patience, Waheguru Ji.
I am not Sikh, I am a Hindu. But I must say, Sikhism has my full respect, I love their ideology very much and how they do not divide the human race, but veiw every human as an equal. I fully condemn all these "Hindus" or any other people disrespecting and hating Sikhs, it is unacceptable.
Which "Hindus" are disrespecting or hating Sikhs? BTW, Mrs.Kapoor is a Khatri Hindu. Khatris are Sikh Hindus. They practice/follow both Sikhi and their ancestral traditional Hindu Dharm. Please don't fall for the propaganda of these ignorant Jatt Sikhs like Jagmeet Singh and others in the comment section.

Jagmeet is wrong. The Gurdwara committee is wrong. Sikhs are open minded and their Gurdwaras are to all faiths. Of course anyone can get married in the Gurdwara. Why not?
Woooooooooow, no one would let you finish your points. They all straight up cut you off in mid sentence, get called in it, and continue anyway! You handled yourself well.
My Sikh friends don't let this video or any other video make you question your religion, there will always be people who want you to change to full fill their agenda, just like my Islam is under attack daily there will be people who will try the same with you be strong.
The Sikh brother got absolutely shot down without even making his point. The panel made assumptions about him, slagged him off, and didn't even give him the chance to respond. The point of this discussion was completely lost right from the start! I'm not religious, but I still feel frustrated for the Sikh here. The panelists keep moaning about how 'love has no boundaries', which is of course true, but that's not the point. It doesn't matter how much two people love each other....a Sikh wedding is ONLY a Sikh wedding if it is between two Sikhs, by definition. As Jagmeet said, a non Sikh would get loving goodwill and blessing from the Gurdwara....but you can't get married as a Sikh couple, if you're not a Sikh couple. This isn't even coming from a religious perspective. It's just plain logic! It's like someone trying to take a violin exam with a guitar...you need a violin first, otherwise it ain't gonna work pal. Plus I'm baffled by why a non-Sikh would want to get 'married' in the Gurdwara anyway?

Wow my respect for BBC just went down. What is wrong with that woman presenter? She seems so utterly biased. And that Kapoor lady is probably someone who visits the Gurudwara every month and eats Langar and then calls herself a "Sikh". All those people present in their rooms, they have no idea how tolerant Sikhism is, forget that, the faith believes in equality. It doesn't tolerate, it believes that all are equal. And lo and behold, there sit people of Jewish descent and other faiths, who have streaks of intolerance running through their faith, trying to preach to a Sikh man who is nothing but graciously respectful towards them.
why did the indian women not marry in church of a husband faith. to my understanding the church does not allow interfaith marriage as well why pick on sikh faith(because it is a soft target) and was white women born though the hated of her both parents?.
***** Correct they alway get a messed person like mrs Kapoor who can not even tell difference between hindu wedding going round fire and a sikh wedding going around SGGS. And it gets even worse because she is a member of religious education advisory body.with Zero knowledge Shame on her
+MindCoach Funny how Sikhi was preaching about equality way before people started adapting that within their ideologies and their society. You just proved yourself how ignorant you are... :D Congrats!
+Islam Fakker - It is the Sikh "faith" and NOT "faiths"! As someone from the Sikh community, I think I know about the Sikh religion and history! Give Muslim women GENUINE equal rights, before you talk out of your backside!
If a non-Sikh marries a Sikh and goes through the Anand karaj, they have officially converted to Sikhism. That is the point of the ceremony to unite in marriage with God as a Sikh through the God's reflection on Earth, which is the Guru. What Jagmeet was trying to point out which BBC did not do a good job of allowing Jagmeet is to say, we do not want people to go through this ceremony without knowing what it is all about. You are officially renouncing whatever religion you are following, if you are, and saying I am a Sikh now along with my wife and we will will give ourselves to Guru Ji, who is God on Earth, and God for the rest of our lives. If both people are cool with that, great, have the Anand Karaj. However, if one participant does not feel comfortable, then Jagmeet is right, do not do the Anand Karaj but go to Gurudwara (Sikh Temple/Church), do a civil marriage and kneel infront of Guru Ji to have the blessings. No problem what so ever but just know what you are doing when doing so.
its so simple! a wedding is about two people in love commiting their life together. Anand karaj is a joining of two souls to walk Guru Ji's path. it's not a wedding!!!!! it's simple logic. idk why BBC is being anti-Sikh, they don't report what is going on in Punjab and then they refuse to let this guy talk because they are afraid of logic. these people have their own agenda. boycott bbc!!!
That old Jewish lady just pissed me right off, the last comment she made by telling that" the kind of hostility and negativity would not persuade people to convert to sikhism". sikhism is religion full of positive and brotherhood irrespective of caste, colour and religion.Langar(free food) is the best example for showing respect to humans by providing free food people belonging to different religion and treating them as their brothers and sisters.
I love u jagmeet singh and I love that spirit u had and the respect ✊ those rude guests and the lady that was called, knew they were going to put to shame so they didn’t let u speak They didn’t have respect but u did! U r a hero❤️
This panel was clearly one sided. The subject was about the Sikh marriage ceremony and the host didn’t care to allow the representative of the religion to explain. Then when he tried to about the Sikhs being killed the host disrespectfully put her finger up and scolded him like he was a child. If it was a liberal left wing cause she would have allowed it. What I witnessed here would have been done to other religions that follow beliefs closely. Most liberals are anti religion. The way the Sikh was treated was shameful. Those liberals on the panel showed their true colors. The host was threatening to have him removed from the studio, WOW!!!
I am Hindu, But I love so much to Sikhs because they are great and have done so much for humanity ...they are real Man, they are very helping to poor and live for poor and have created great history
That woman was a prick. The brother was so polite and not given a chance to make a proper point. Glad he got to make his point about Sikh lives. Respect.

Kudos to Jagmeet Singh ji. You need people who are willing to listen and understand each other. She had a strong bias against Bhai jagmeet singh ji for some reason.
Disgusting from the BBC, although this was 7 years ago, painful to hear Jagmeet Singh being treated like that. Huge respect to Jagmeet for showing what Sikhi is.
This panel of ignorants (except Bhai Sahib) with zero capacity to hear made me laugh. .. First go and do ur home work on Sikhism, then ask people to debate
If an atheist can participate in a sacred ceremony where he bows down and takes a vow with his Sikh wife to follow Guruji together then he is just being disrespectful to his wife and insincere and none of his vows to HER mean anything either. She should not want him to do that and prove to her he is a liar and his vows mean nothing. The Sikh community obviously values truth and so of course they don't want to allow it, they opened up their gurudwara for the marriage so what is this atheist complaining about? to an atheist the whole thing is nonsense and that why he was willing to do it, he would have made any vow to any religion, no wonder he thinks what is the fuss all about it is all fairy-tales, but everyone else doesn't have to live by his belief.
I just cant believe! Those people didn't even let him speak. The purpose of inviting jagmeet was to actually give an insight about the issue. But the way it was carried out was purely ridiculous and unprofessional. Instead of a solution to the problem they just make jagmeet sit and listen. Can't believe these type of idiots exist.
WOW!! I was stunned at how people can’t handle the truth. Jagmeet Singh Ji was so calm and tried to speak about something he was invited to talk about but didn’t even get a chance to say anything because they were cutting him off. Like people don’t invite someone to speak if they can’t even speak!! Simple as that!!!!!
What a horrible dynamic by which to interview people of opposing points of view... haha, here I had felt British news media was somehow superior to the garbage we are presented here in America, lol.
Fantastic job Bhai Jagmeet Singh; well done for staying so calm and continuing to try and make your point very calmly and trying to stand up for Sikhi, even though this lady wouldn't let him finish what he was saying.
To all those in the comments below saying Jagmeet wasn't getting enough time, he had a solid 6 minutes of talking in a 14 minute segment...that's close to half the speaking time. If he was unable to persuade them on the argument then that's on him as it's a televised program and he needs to be able to summarize the argument for the protests better . Additionally, I'm not sure where non-sikhs attending Anand Karaj ceremonies ranks in order of importance for Sikh issues, but I think it might come a little after the following other issues namely: 1) High rates of alcohol and drug abuse in Sikh community 2) Gurdwaras not providing enough education on actual Sikhi to Western Sikhs (this channel wouldn't be needed if that were the case) 3) Huge Corruption within Gurdwaras globally leading to violent infighting in Gurdwaras 4) Female Infanticide in Punjab 5) Caste related issues dividing Sikhs which should have been eliminated centuries ago 6) Violence against Sikhs in America and in India/Pakistan/Afghanistan 7) Gang violence among youths from Sikh families in Canada and Punjab 8) Muslim Grooming gangs in the UK Additionally, Sikhs are to perform Seva for all of humanity and therefore national and international issues such as poverty, domestic abuse, terrorism/war, etc. are also important issues our community needs to tackle. Therefore, the amount of time and effort used by these protests could have gone towards performing SO MUCH MORE positive Seva, but instead we get caught in this argument over whether or not to allow people from non-sikh families to perform the Anand Karaj ceremony? Additionally the fact that the rule being radically enforced by the protesters comes from the Sikh Maryada which is an interpretation and subject to change and DOES NOT come from SGGS ji leads one has to ask is all this effort really a good use of a GurSikh's time and energy? Waheguru has blessed us with this form and we only have a short time on this Earth, I don't personally believe this is a good use of any Sikh's time. Additionally if one is to protest here, then by the same logic, all non-amritdharis Sikh Anand Karaj ceremonies should be protested because if one is not Amritdhari then how can you be sure the person is truly a follower of Sikhi and isn't simply doing the ceremony to please their family and friends? Which I also believe is more of a problem then the one being protested here is that I know many people from Sikh families who do not believe in Waheguru or the Sikh panth but proceed with the ceremony simply for show, why no protests there?
Sikh lives matter. All of you Sikh brothers out there, key to survival in modern hostile world is to have political unity in your community. You must have a sense of history to avoid same blunder over and over again. No strong Sikh leader ever emerged after Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Britishers used you as a currency to spend in war. You won them WW2. But what did you get in return from them? They torn apart your Punjab in two parts. Just being a brave fierce warrior doesn't guarantee a safe future. You have to be strong politician also. Everyone knows that 1984 Anti Sikh genocide sponsored by Congress but still numerous Sikhs vote for it and many dying to get a ticket. Have political unity in your community. Then only you cab survive in the future. Just look what happened to Sikhs in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh and what is happening in other parts of world? Sikhs living there were also brave but could not survive onslaught. Don't repeat the mistakes of Hindus. Disunity will bring you shame only. Only your vote can save your future.
Singh was merely saying... if you are not whole heartedly a Sikh then you are not bound/required to participate in the Sikh ceremony Anand Karaj... that would be incorrect of a Sikh person to encourage you to partake in a ceremony that you dont know/understand or naturally respect truly and not just for the sake of your partner. Anyone is welcome into a Gudwara. Some people dont have church weddings as they feel its not what they want... thats the right decision for them. At the end of the day Sikhs across the globe do not want people to do what they would normally never want to do. We are an anti-opression faith. By taking part in the Anand Karaj and not knowing about it or believing in it would only bear heavy on you/your soul. therefore we are not saying you CANT ...we are merely protecting your own rights as an individual. Also shouting at Mr Singh on the show is not respectful and in fact classless... he spoke out yes... off topic yes but he was dignified and passionate...threatening that he will be removed is ridiculous and the BBC need to calm down...especially the presenter... yes your doing your job but stay calm he was only speaking ... perhaps the presenter could have had more control when he was trying to clarify points that were thrown at him. truth will remain true and peoples incorrect assumptions will not change that.
Jagmeet pure respect for the truth and maintaining composure against that deplorable woman who works for the bbc ,shame was jagmeet had a much more important message to give and still did his part to give light to that topic .bless
To be truthful even though the white people was being prejudice...the mr Singh here let himself down. He could of handled that better. They wanted to antagonise and he fell for it. His answers should of been sharp and to the point and at the end he could of asked to say one more thing! They was talking about religions being hostile and he came across in that way. They should of sent jugraj Singh to handle this one! The bottom line is if you don't follow a religion, then why would you want to go to that faiths place of worship to get married...simple answer he could of gave here!!!
what Jagmeet Singh said is on point, why are people getting it all wrong? Sikhism is about truth, about being true to yourself, about knowing the truth. To have a Sikh wedding in a gurdwara, you have to believe, truly believe and accept the Guru Granth Sahib ji as your true and only God. If you do not believe, then going through the wedding would be a lie on your part and a complete disrespect towards the Sikh faith. It's like in the Catholic faith. If the two people involved do not truly believe in Jesus Christ, no priest is going to perform the wedding. Basically it all boils down to having respect and being honest-if you don't believe, don't act like you do.
This lady is so damn rude omg I can not believe she did not even let the Sikh brother talk and explain

How dare bbc treat jagmeet singh in such a poorly manner.
Very true
i also totaly agree with you .
Sienna x thank you for bringing this up I feel happy when we Sikhs have others supporting us
THANK YOU. Everyone is saying Jagveer is stupid, well no, it’s your mind! Yes, they did not even give him an opportunity to speak.
It's because they couldn't handle hearing that Sikhs have the up most unique respect for God.

F*ck zionists
Unimaginably frustrating. Good on you Jagmeet Singh Ji, absolutely disgusting watching them bring you out only to humiliate Sikhi and Guru Ji without letting you defend yourself or Sikhi. You did wonderfully, in spite of their efforts.
wow they never gave him a chance to even make a sentence
+bbsb1233 yeah....he interrupted but was not rude or aggressive .
Was hugely biased! Ridiculous
+TheGava4 I agree
The lady moderating the show did an absolutely horrible job. She should have given him a clear min or so to explain himself and reprimanding the others that interrupted him.
Respect to brother Jagmeet Singh for speaking out. Always stick to your principles. And when your brothers are being killed any where in the world for being true to their faith the least you can do is speak out. RESPECT!
I'm a Muslim, and this disgusts me. I have huge respect for Sikh people, and they are just attacking the religion. Disgusting
+Ruhid Rahman I agree... there seems to a push particularly in this program to focus on silencing Jagmeet's opinion.
+Ruhid Rahman Very true BBC are Satanic cult members! BBC want everyone to follow Satanic cults! Please wake up!
Your one to talk ? Look around the world and Islam

Unfortunately this is what they do. They brush the killings of innocent people in Punjab under the carpet. This needs to change!
So much respect for Jagmeet Singh.
Walking around a fire????? IS she even sikh??? Jagmeet did not get t make his point...BBC was so biased on this topic
Unknown Human Ik, man they new jagmeet would be against this story, so they brought a corrupted so called sikh

+bbsb1233 yes by dal khalsa for being disrespectful to SGGS referring it to grant sabh
+culiohulio1 Yes she is sikh!
Apparently in India she supports Hindu Nationalist and she didn't even speak out about 1984
Watching this again in 2018 i'm still shocked by this. The BBC were so biased on this topic and the presenter portrayed Jagmeet Singh to simply be something he is not. As a presenter you should not be biased and should accept both views but it was clear there were 6 against 1.
that was horrendous.....the British Biased Channel
the ignorance was so overwhelming....

@@Rishi6901they can't 💀❤

Good on Jagmeet paji for spreading the message. You are a true sikh of waheguru 🙏🏽

So brave of you Jagmeet Veerji, am so inspired.

Well done jagmeet singh. Save Sikhs in India, we want freedom.
T.S. pelya singh become Khalsa and get freedom no need to ask anyone for it
Am I the only one who found this interview very awkward?
I dont even think a use of listening to this interview as it was completely racist
4:20 pure Khalsa Sikh facts
Fantastic job Bhai Jagmeet Singh; well done for staying so calm and continuing to try and make your point very calmly and trying to stand up for Sikhi, even though this lady wouldn't let him finish what he was saying.
7:45 he gave her the look to say "are you for real" - what jagmeet said and what she said are two different statements.
Additionally, I'm not sure where non-sikhs attending Anand Karaj ceremonies ranks in order of importance for Sikh issues, but I think it might come a little after the following other issues namely:
1) High rates of alcohol and drug abuse in Sikh community
2) Gurdwaras not providing enough education on actual Sikhi to Western Sikhs (this channel wouldn't be needed if that were the case)
3) Huge Corruption within Gurdwaras globally leading to violent infighting in Gurdwaras
4) Female Infanticide in Punjab
5) Caste related issues dividing Sikhs which should have been eliminated centuries ago
6) Violence against Sikhs in America and in India/Pakistan/Afghanistan
7) Gang violence among youths from Sikh families in Canada and Punjab
8) Muslim Grooming gangs in the UK
Additionally, Sikhs are to perform Seva for all of humanity and therefore national and international issues such as poverty, domestic abuse, terrorism/war, etc. are also important issues our community needs to tackle.
Wow jagmeet Singh is a true gursikh and these bbc dogs want him to look foolish.... May these people get what they deserve
holy crap. they interrupted him every 5th word. Every. other. person spoke without interruption.
Anita kapoor
is counselor ? she herself dont know anything
what she will tell to others ?
Jagmeet as a Muslim I respect how you stayed true to your faith.
How dare you bunch of hyenas disrespect my sikh brother. This guy is a hero
I said he is hero too brother 💪
Jag meet went full gangster in the end
If they actauly let him speak you would understand what Sikhism is all about
Jagmeet pure respect for the truth and maintaining composure against that deplorable woman who works for the bbc ,shame was jagmeet had a much more important message to give and still did his part to give light to that topic .bless
