Honestly we need to spread awareness about sikhi. It hurts me when so many people don't know about it. Just today in my history class my teacher gave us 5 options for a religion project and the options were Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, and Buddhism. She said these are the 5 biggest religions in the world. I showed her that Sikhism is bigger then Judaism and she said she would change Hinduism for Sikhism on the options because they both believe that there are many gods but she said" Sikhism is too easy to research". I tried telling her about what Sikhism is but she never listened. We got to spread awareness. Like this if you agree.

I agree , there are even some people in our Panth have their own beliefs , they trust their own matth and don't know much about Sikhi . Recently I spoke to a 'Sikh ' from leamington whose daughter had an Anand Karaj with a white guy . The worst thing about it was she said if you believe in God it shouldn't matter what religion you are , and it was fine (for them to have an interfaith wedding )
I was really disappointed at that answer , that our elders , parents don't know much about Sikhi and the Gurdwarey Allow it .
You are right we have do spread awareness , BoS are doing a good job

I would prefer to marry someone that's the same race or religion as you otherwise it makes things complicated but however I don't see anything wrong with that. I mean it's just two humans marrying and it doesn't matter much about the race and religion. I mean Sikhism is a pretty open religion which is open to anyone. So what's wrong with that.

From my perspective I don't see Sikhism to be that different from Hinduism. I realised that only after watching these videos. Sikhism is talking about Adhyatma Vidya coupled with Seva and Bhakti, that is simply beautiful.

feels like the atheist brother already had a preconceived idea of religion(s) and associated Sikhi to all of them. did not come into the discussion with an open mind as evidenced by his body language, posture, constant eye rolling. even the Christian brother was more open, albeit coming from a bit more exclusive ideology. the atheist wanted a lot of ego gratification in my opinion. ive been there. ego really is blinding. The man who comes in and says "God is a loaded word" makes a brilliant point. If we keep using the term "God" - a term misused and misrepresented, and a term that only points to Abrahamic views of God - people like the stubborn atheist gentleman (who wasn't actually listening) will always be on the offensive.

    • @traviscondy3978
      @traviscondy3978 8 лет назад +14

      Use Waheguru.
However; this isn't always possible though. When a Sikh uses the term God to explain something to someone who is uneducated about Sikhi you give them to impression that God is God as in the Abrahamic religion. Sikhi is not dualistic and using the word God implies that. Even if though don't know about Sikhi I believe using the word Waheguru which is not yet attached to a meaning to this say, John, can help them understand the difference between the two. Forgive me, I'm just trying to help - never to offend.

I think bhai Jagraj touched upon that when he used "the One/Creator" but since this wasn't clarified in the beginning, the athiest, as can be heard, started to generalise all faiths. We know that Sikhi is the truth as it is written in gurbani, why gurbani is the truth is that vaheguru gave the message directly to the gurus and then the message was conveyed into gurbani. The experience you have reading and understanding gurbani is an experience that you don't get from reading other books or novels etc. There is nothing illogical about sikhi as it came directly from vaheguru, if you still think that sikhi is not the truth then you obviously haven't read enough about sikhi and you are indirectly stating my Guru is a lier.

Just wanna put this out there. I'm Christian and I have a tremendous amount of respect for Sikhism as a faith. The 10 Gurus are admirable figures and they remind me of the teachings I find with Christ as well as the saints within the Christian tradition. The two important teachings for me are the ones found with St John who states (i)God is Love. (ii) We are to live in a community of Love. The Disciple explains that a person who says they Love God but does not love their neighbor is a liar. I believe that this is a universal teaching common for all the great religions in our efforts to make the world a better place.
Just also wanna put this out there that one doesn't need to be an exclusive in order to be a Christian. Inclusivism also has very strong strands as well. Pope Francis has spoken for instance about how even atheists can be saved saying "Non-Christians, by God’s gracious initiative, when they are faithful to their own consciences, can live “justified by the grace of God”,and thus be “associated to the paschal mystery of Jesus Christ”(Joy of the Gospel).
This is because the Bible teaches what Jewish theologians called "ethical monotheism". Belief in God based on righteous actions. We aren't reconciled and judged based on "knowing the right things" which is what the Gnostics believed. We are judged by our actions. So when you look at the Good Samaritan for instance. For the perspective of Christ and Jewish leaders of that day, his beliefs were wrong because Samaritans were regarded as heretics. And yet Christ says that because he loved his neighbor he gained entry into the Kingdom of Heaven. In the Parable of the Sheep and Goats(Matthew 25:31-45) when Jesus speaks about judgement it isn't based on knowledge of the right ideas, but on our actions(how we treat the poor, the widow, orphan, the stranger and those in prison).

yeah i agree the atheists clearly didnt want to listen and was already.deeply rooted in his beliefs. my problem with atheists is that how can you walk the earth and go on through life just believing in science only But you dont have a true path you dont have an understanding of what god is or what happens to you after death.

      Blind faith kills..
People of the book, christians and muslims and now sikhs will always argue.
      All man made religion.
Where are the vedic people or the jews or even buddhist?
Now the sikhi will put down hinduism..

God is real and He Loves You. Jesus is the Son of God he died on the cross for all of our sins, he was buried and he rose again. He is alive forever more. Believe on him and have everlasting life. When I die I will be with him forever. If you don't believe in him before you die, when you die you will burn in hell forever. Please believe on him before it's Eternally to late. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

"The spiritual path involves controlling your lower desires and embracing your higher desires" This hit me deep. I have fallen victim to my lower desires way too many times in the form of binge drinking, drugs (I became an addict) and hookup culture. Granted i was often using booze, drugs and sex to deal with a lack of purpose in my life and to cope with mental health issues such as anxiety, depression and identity issues. I was succumbing to my lower compulsive desires of lust, egotisim, and hedonism. This video has made me realise that what I have been missing is a spiritual relationship with God which can be attained through meditation. I am agnostic but Jagrai Singh, may he rest in peace, is teaching me so much. So grateful to have come across this channel. I need to explore Sikhism more.

This kind of argument will only come when we think GOD as a person or like a human being. No one can give any explanation of His form, dress, outline and complexion. God’s form is stable, He is self-illuminated, with immeasurable power. God is the king of millions of kings, and the King of kings of gods. God is the Lord of three worlds (land, air,
water) not only gods, men and demons, but the whole vegetable world
announces that none is equal and alike God. None can utter all of Your names. Wise men who realise Your virtues, call You in the same way.... So its not about GOD wanting us to remember him, but its on us to know GOD and merge back in....

@illy kitty yeah, start chanting the name of God & try to feel that love it produces and unexceeded bliss ! A truth must be perceived in that calm awareness which is super-consciousness. Meditation, then, is not creating answers: It is perceiving them. And this is the secret of true guidance. The stilled mind will be able to start functioning properly and one become more aware of the reality around us.
Most people seldom listen. They 'listen' while thinking, when can I interrupt and what can I say. They’re like an out-of-tune musical instruments. Because they no longer are able to tune into their own essential nature, their inter-actions with life and other people produce only discords. They are deaf to the symphony of sounds in the world around them. They are deaf to other people, for they are more interested in speaking their own minds.

When I felt the love of the divine, I stopped being a Muslim, as I knew God had no religion.
Also, any God that isn't inclusive, isn't a God i'd want to follow.
I believe God loves all and there are many paths to the divine. Just be a good human and feel the loving presence of the divine.

Atheist was saying Sikhism / God is exclusive because it does not let immoral and evil people into salvation.
Thats like saying Evolution / Human body is exclusive because it does not give abs and muscles to lazy people who don't workout or control their diet.
Salvation in terms of Sikhism is becoming one with God. If God starts letting impure souls into salvation then God would become impure as well. Thats why there is Re-incarnation. One life after another you keep strengthening your soul until you become a saint like human.

@@shahee6579 Yes, they do come in terms with objective morality . If morality was subjective anyone would do anything and subjectively speaking, murder would be fine in the eyes of the murderer because their morals stand elsewhere

@@inderpalsingh6561 where can I get an understanding of right and wrong in the sikh religion . Because online it seems vague all I'm seeing is sikhs saying to live a good life . But I want specifics of what is right and wrong in the faith

    • @inderpalsingh6561
      @inderpalsingh6561 3 года назад +1

@@shahee6579 Honestly, its just through a lot of stories passed down about the guru's and how they went about morality. A lot of these stories or references can be found in The Guru Granth Sahib Ji if you would like to read about them. A brief overview of the way a SIkh should like or try to live life is found in the 52 Hukams given by Guru Gobind Singh Ji so you can look up 52 Hukams as well.

    SGGS page 19 (19-18)
saachay tay pavnaa bha-i-aa pavnai tay jal ho-ay.
From the True Lord came the air, and from the air came water.
jal tay taribhavan saaji-aa ghat ghat jot samo-ay.
From water, He created the three worlds; in each and every heart He has infused His Light.
I don't know how much cleariity is needed here, guru's subject was not science. When he came
up with this truth probably many were fighting over water when he explained how water is
made .But no offence we don't need science to verify Sikhi . Science is worldly knowledge
and sikhi teaches us beyond wordly.
