That's stuff great people are made of. I have watched all the videos. I had no real understanding of Sikhi before I discovered this channel. I have learned a lot. I have nothing but respect for it. With respect, all the way from Somalia. RIP.

The Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji was written, verified, and sealed by the Guru: This is an objective fact. The Gurus were superior to Plato, Aristotle, and Confucius becuase they had a far better message and lived better lives. These Greek Philosophers haven't even studies about Sikhi and all of a sudden start to jump to conclusions and doubt the validity of the Guru. Jagraj Singh on the other hand is an Oxford graduate in Philosophy and has studied the greek philosophers. If you are going to debate someone, you should at least know their beliefs.

I haven't even watch the video yet but it doesnt take a genius to realize that Greek mythology is a 'myth' and so is Hindu mythology.

    • @maninderjeetsingh4251

      Bl00dAndThunder
But still there is truth in Greek mythology. Not all of it is true but to a certain extent it is. Talking about HINDU mythology, hinduism is a culture, the religion is Sanatan Dharam. And i can say it for sure that Sanatan Dharam is Closer to the truth than many other religions. So lets assume if Sanatan Dharam was the best religion in this world i would consider HINDUS the worst followers of it. They have lost the real essence and teachings of it.

    • @Bl00dAndThunder
      @Bl00dAndThunder 8 лет назад +8

There is barely any truth to greek mythology. Hindu mythology is very similar. they are both myths. They both teach us to learn and understand the principals of their respective stories instead of taking their stories in the literal sense. Ramayan teaches us to understand the value and importance of marriage and devotion as an example.

Waheguru. Whether you believe or disbelieve, on both sides you will just have a fancyful story. For the Gurus, Gursikhs, Saints, and Realized beings they have a living experience of the Oneness for themselves. Clearly one can see that this body is just an accumulation of food and that the mind is an accumulation of impressions. What we truly are, What is truly immortal in us, is the Oneness(or God that is more commonly used but doesn't completely capture the description of the Oneness), the Oneness that is all pervading, all doing, all achieving, all experiencing. Sikhi is about connecting with that Oneness, which is immortal, and transcending your limited nature which is subject to time.

As Sikhs I think it's important to be tolerant of people who cannot have faith in a G-d - and accept that they're at least trying to study Aristotle, Plato and Confucius and get enlightened somehow. Not everyone is born with faith in a Creator and some choose to become Atheists after years of fear based approach to religion (Not like Sikhi, I know... a very different type of Spirituality than others) which is why I'm saying if you're a Sikh be more tolerant of those who have no faith at all and see that they can also reach Nirvana, since after all if the man came saying that he's a Buddhist and follower of the Buddha's philosophy which was also atheistic it would've been more accepted... but not everyone is blessed with faith in even the Buddha or Jainism which are both atheistic religions with extremely high ethical standards.

Very interesting. I have recently entered a spiritual phase in my life and I am very open to spiritual teachings that come from different cultures and traditions. My feeling is that there is NOT one tradition that is valid and others that are not. I totally share the Sikh view that you have very well presented when you have explained the Sikh creed but I felt a bit uncomfortable when you assertively said "I believe in the ten Gurus and not in Plato, Confucius and Aristotle". Now, what is obvious to me is that these three philosophers had a clear connection with the same entity that the Gurus had. Why should we put a barrier between them or between the Gurus and, say, some shiamanic spirituality of pre-history? If God operates in the way you said, is not more reasonable to think that God found a way to reveal its "will" in every historical period ? Do we doubt the power of God in doing that? Do we doubt that he/she/it found a way to reveal himself to humanity in every tradition according to the culture and spirit of the time? Every religion (except the misguided ones like scientology or the Jehova witnesses, but maybe even those can offer a path, at least in a negative way) offer a door that, potentially, gives access to human liberation which equates to the ultimate moral and spiritual connection with the One that you are talking about. The problem of present day religions is that they do not recognize this obvious truth, because they are trapped in their cultural traditions (the difference between Monolatrism and Monotheism is pertinent here). These traditions become reified to a point that their path of spiritual enlightment, the breach into and beyond that door, is not possible. To use a metaphor, religions and spiritual traditions are like rooms with doors in the palace of God. All the doors lead to the Ultimate room and the palace is One. Gurus, philosophers and sages of all times have pointed to the doors and moral/ ethical paths to enter that ultimate door. However, sadly, most people chose to stay in their rooms, their limited traditions thinking that that room is the only room in the palace! Withouth the recognition of the palace of God they will never been peace because people will always consider their reclusiveness in their rooms as the path to God...Nontheless, I suspect that you would agree with me especially when you were asked to the man if "Aristotle and Plato believed in God" ... and the answer was, of course, yes they did.

We know that you can go to god even if you don’t follow Sikhism. But we believe that every other religion has parts of the truth and Sikhism has the complete truth (truth of god). You can be liberated from this world while following another religion, but Sikhism shows the direct and righteous path towards god. Thank you for giving your perspective as it has helped to expand my understanding of my own religion and others as well

  • @masterzoroaster6908
    @masterzoroaster6908 8 лет назад +2

Also, another thought of mine, was that... if Sikhi is tolerant of other religions claiming it's the same G-d/Waheguru who inspired them and is worshipped by them, since the GGS uses Hindu names for G-d and Allah in it thus making it a universal path to spirituality then by this standard atheists should also be accepted and tolerated as seekers of truth since the Buddha was an atheist and other Jain spiritual giants were atheists yet attained an enormous level of awareness and non-attachment state and Guru Nanak adopted the Buddhist concept of Nirvana in his writings proving that the Buddha's teachings also had some validity to them... so if Christ is seen as a saint, then what about the Buddha? You can't tell me that the Buddha didn't make it to Paradise and Bliss after leading such a pure life only because he didn't believe in a deity... which is why you can't judge for Waheguru and separate the theist from the atheist... a lot of times atheists are closer to Sikhi because they don't have the fear based outlook on G-d whereas Christians and Muslims have a deity they created in their own image... as Satpal Singh called it - mr.G-d... unlike Christ who preached that the kingdom of heaven is within us all... atheist and theist alike... and since both Islam and Sikhi claim that this Creator is indescribable and unfathomable then maybe they who are self proclaimed atheists are best acquainted with him because they lack a mental image or colored lenses through which they view that Creator and are able to experience Him/Her/It better without impressing their own ideals/ideas upon Him/Her/It... Just my $0.02.

Before watching this video, I've pondered on this point about Aristotle vs the Guru's teachings. This is an important topic. It isn't as shallow of a topic that can be brushed off with 1 RUclips video on the streets.

    P.S.
That Ginger atheist chap making fun of the man who followed Aristotle, Plato and Confucius was acting out in ignorance, since maybe the man who followed the Ancient Philosophers would reincarnate and become a Sikh in his next life after this encounter with Jagraj, but the ginger atheist was refuting sikhi claiming it's the same as any other school of thought and also humiliating the man who had genuine doubt due to his own lack of faith in G-d.

NO, Sikhs should NOT go door to door. It will only end up irritating people and pushing them further away from Sikhi. I don't think we should be following most Christian preaching tactics because they simply don't work, the decline of Christanity in recent years is proof of this.
Basics of Sikhi should stick to there current tactics of only talking to people who are interested and want to learn be because that's what gets people into Sikhi, not going door to door.

To debate the old man correctly, one gotta really listen to his argument. He understands how ethics is related to actions & habits from reading plato & aristotle, but further needs probing deeper for instance, into cause & effect, the question of free will etc. ultimately leading to 'hukam'. As a sikh, although I personally believe the sikh philosophy is deeper than plato's but yet I am sorry to say this debate wasn't very intellectual. Needs real philosophers.

The Universe is The Totality. The Totality is the WaheGuru. The WaheGuru is Energy..Energy Is Information.
Modern Physics has come to accept the Mool Mantar. The Universe did not bang..there was nothing to go bang and nothing to bang into. The Universe, The Totality, The WaheGuru... expanded.
The WaheGuru did not 'make' the suns and the planets, physics did. The WaheGuru just set the staring conditions and the rules.
    EVERYTHING IS THE WAHEGURU.
Ik- There is ONE(Ik) reality, the origin and the source of everything. The creation did not come out of nothing. When there was nothing, there was ONE, Ik.
Onkaar- When Ik becomes the creative principal it becomes Onkaar. Onkaar manifests as visible and invisible phenomenon. The creative principle is not separated from the created, it is present throughout the creation in an unbroken form, 'kaar'.
Satnaam- The sustaining principle of Ik is Satnaam, the True Name, True Name.EXSISTENCE
Kartaa Purakh- Ik Onkaar is Creator and Doer (Kartaa) of everything, all the seen and unseen phenomenon. It is not just a law or a system, it is a Purakh, a Person.
Nirbhau- That Ik Onkaar is devoid of any fear, because there is nothing but itself.
Nirvair- That Ik Onkaar is devoid of any enmity because there is nothing but itself.
Akaal Moorat- That Ik Onkaar is beyond Time (Akaal) and yet it is existing. Its a Form(Moorat) which does not exist in Time.
Ajooni- That Ik Onkaar does not condense and come into any birth. All the phenomenon of birth and death of forms are within it.
Saibhang- That Ik Onkaar exists on its own, by its own. It is not caused by anything before it or beyond it.
Gurprasaad- That Ik Onkaar is expresses itself through a channel known as Guru and it is only its own Grace and Mercy (Prasaad) that this happens.
Ikoaʼnkār saṯ nām karṯā purakẖ nirbẖao nirvair akāl mūraṯ ajūnī saibẖaʼn gur parsāḏ.
One Universal Creator. The Name Is Exsistence.Creative Being Personified. No Fear. No Hatred. Image Of The Undying, Beyond Birth, Self-Existent. By Guru's Grace

3:30 "Each human has an equal potential to connect to god"- I do not believe so and science is showing that it is not so. Different people have different mental makeups to excel in various aspects of the being. Spirituality is another aspect and different people have different abilities to be spiritual. A Guru Nanaks level or spirituality cannot be compared to that of a common man.

plato believed in a god , and aristotle believed in the idea of a prime mover so even if u were to argue u dont need a religion, u still would end up believing in a god by following their beliefs. its such a silly argument, like u dont need greek philosophers for ethics and moral values either.he is just name dropping random philosophers here and there. on top of that, the allegory of the cave is this idea of the elitism of philosophers which is exactly what the guy argues against. im just confused as to what his point was. both aristotle and plato have totally diff views on the idea of a form of good vs a prime mover. but yet he uses both as what to follow.

Most of sikh parcharrak ignor them while Calling them Bhagats and don't give them much respect. I really watch regular Videos From all sikh parcharraks they all are Same.

Also, if Waheguru is without fear than He/It doesn't fear if humans refuse to believe in Him/It... and if Waheugur is without hatred, then it's impossible for Him/It to hate humans that are atheists... so who's to say that it wasn't Waheguru Himself/Itself that led that man to pursue understanding the world around him and becoming ethical through Aristotle/Plato and Confucius... and even if he leads his family to study the same school(s) of thought who's to say they won't meet a GurSikh on campus and adopt a Sikh Spirituality... so either way... none of us can judge atheists... Reality is not black and white...

Someone who has studied philosophy as part of an undergraduate PPE degree is likely to have a very limited understanding of the Greek philosophers - as many say, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing...and reciting scriptures word perfect is not a sign that the person understands the meaning of them....Jagraj, display some humility in these exchanges

Jagraj, sorry, I didn't want to suggest you were being arrogant. I think much of the work you guys are doing is fantastic...I guess my concern is that we should avoid being too confrontational with people who don't follow or agree with the Sikh faith. Other faiths (especially Islam) use terms such as unbelievers to describe anyone who doesn't follow their faith and we don't want to go down that route.
