Damn If my Baba at the gurdwara spoke english and brought up all those issues like you I would actually go to the gurdwara. You hit the nail on the head for all the concerns I have. Also the concerns my father and my uncle had too, they understand the flaws of the sikhi and the gurdwaras today but they don't have a solution. I hope you and your sangat become a model for all others to follow.

I was very surprised to find this channel yesterday and even more surprised to find this video today. I was a bit afraid to watch at first because I thought it would be a lot of blaming and shaming, and, as a Punjabi girl, I've already paid my lifetime's dues there and don't want to hear it anymore. I sort of have PTSD when it comes to blaming and shaming actually. Watching this video, I think there might actually be a chance for the sangat. I'm hearing things that I've been thinking since I was a young child and only started to put into thoughts later. Things I would've never said aloud of course, for the very reasons mentioned in the video.
I hope that as time goes on, men like this will lead the way for sikhinis too to stand up and start talking about what they see and taking responsibility. Having cojones helps, but it isn't all that's required to have bravery and take a stand. The softest and humblest of people can also be very together in their personal lives, perhaps just not imposing to others. I can only imagine that lots of the older aunties and uncles left this talk grumbling under their breaths, even though they heard the truth in it - if a woman said any of these things, there would be way more hostility. I feel proud watching my brother speak about these things so eloquently and feel amazed at his insight. I really didn't think Sikh people could think intelligently about what's going on the in the community - I've never heard anything like this before. This does go beyond just thinking intelligently though - this man has obviously had an experience of Guru and it is infusing his whole life, his view. His words come from a place of sharp intellect, which he has innately, but also from a place of wisdom. The wisdom that comes from a marriage of discrimination and compassion. A dynamic wisdom, one that arms you with the resourcefulness to take responsibility for things in the real world.
Anyways, if you read this, I know you are touching the hearts of many of the younger generation who feel a connection to Guru, who pray inwardly and hope that their inner experience of connection can one day flower into a beautiful outward expression of oneness with the community. A hope which once seemed dark and stifled, buried, but which, for the first time in my life, feels possible.
When the world starts to fall apart, the Guru sends his helpers to come clean up the world. I know this man is one of them and I think he inwardly knows it too. That doesn't really matter though, about who knows what. What I do know is that I needed to take 5 minutes of my time to write this post, as insignificant as it is, to let you know, that if my heart is with you, I know many others' are too. I know you'll keep posting these videos and talking to people and healing the sangat one person, one RUclips video at a time.

I seen on You Tube the Sikh army officer , beg to assist in helping the kidnapped school girls from boko haram. He said he wanted to do something good and get the bad guys , because that is the proud history of what Sikhs stand for. I was impressed and he made me search out who the Sikhs are and their beliefs . I am from Canada , and there are many Sikh people here. I of course thought that Sikhs were a sect of Islam I apologize for my ignorance , and now I will try to educate others about what the Sikhs believe and that they are NOT in any way muslim . I hope that your troubles will be sorted out . I am Christian and we go through the very same issues . You do need to educate the children in religious education . It would help to lay a sound foundation , so the kids can grow up strong . I shall include you in my prayers . Thank - You for your invaluable service , God Bless , Penny.

This grooming culture looks very similar to Love Jihaad to me happening in India. It started in Kerala few years back and 1 Church pastor complaied about in High Court. No one knew much about it back then. Then it started spreading in other States and parents started complaining how their daughters are being brainwashed and used/abused by muslims.
What Late Jagraj Ji said 6:00 - 12:00 that we as a community need to stand against it and stop this from happening, when same thing is said in hindu community, then muslims and international media starts blaming that muslims are being targetted in India by hindu majority groups.

. there has to be proper mix of affection and strictness. we are doing exact opposite, we show less affection and we give girls more freedom, we should be more affectionate to them, but they must know that they cant dress up in just any way, and cant go clubbing and stuff.

I know this video is about 3 years old now, but it was a hard-hitting & very passionate talk by the speaker. I first watched the video about 2 years ago & was very moved by it then, but even watching it again now, it still moved me to tears in parts, when I heard the stories of those young Sikh girls being duped by dishonest boys, then feeling & being isolated from their own communities, perhaps because of the fear of repercussions from their families etc.I know it was mentioned there were a couple of groups within the Sikh community who were trying to do something about these kinds of things - like SAS & Sikh Helpline etc, & I do hope those groups have made considerable headway over the last 3 years. I think the speaker was right, in that most Christian churches & congregations these days, no matter how small they are, seem to be very big on "pastoral care", & perhaps that's an area that the Sikh community needs to work on. The Sikh community is very good at doing things like providing free food (langar), & on quite a large scale, which is something a lot of Christian church congregations, due to their small size & limited financial resources would probably never have the capacity to do. However a lot of Christian congregations do do similar types of things, but on a much smaller scale. For example, I know of one small church which collects left-over bread donated from a local bakery at the end of the business day, then suitably packages it & delivers it to needy families in their local area. Also, often because of the small size of some congregations, there can be a genuine sense of commitment & "family" amongst the members, who really look out for each other, & there is rarely the sense of "competitiveness" amongst members that is mentioned in the above video. If a member is in trouble, & the congregation becomes aware of it, there will usually be many offers of assistance & "pastoral care". In the case of these Sikh girls who find themselves in trouble, & don't feel comfortable seeking assistance from within their own Sikh communities, there are of course a number of "secular" organisations within most regions, that a person could go to for help, before eventually going to the police, if one chooses to go down that path. But I think the worst thing for them would be the way it makes them feel isolated from their own families. A lot of the time girls/women can feel more comfortable talking to other women about these kinds of things - so I think that if I were a woman in a Sikh congregation, I would try & get the other women of the congregation to come together to discuss how they could help & support Sikh girls in this situation & encourage them to (confidentially, if need be) report these kinds of things. These women could also perhaps try to liaise with the women from their local Islamic community, to let them know what is happening & how the Muslim boys are behaving (after all, those boys will also have mothers). Maybe they could then come to some sort of consensus on how to deal with it & whether or how to involve the police etc, depending on how serious each individual case is. Since this video was posted, I do hope the Sikh community has found a way of dealing with these matters, which does not leave the girls feel isolated & cut off. After all, the girls are the victims in these situations & as the speaker has so rightly pointed out, they need all the help & support their Sikh community can possibly give them.

Fantastic effort. It's so important and true that these girls who are groomed should not be victimised further by our community. Sending them away is not the solution, but we as Sikhs should help them reintegrate into Society. This way we kill 2 birds with one stone. The girls will feel much more accepted and will more than likely through this love accept Sikhi into their lives.

Great video !!! all boils down to education ! creating awareness and outreaching the community. One major thing is drugs and alcohol within the community, there should be an outreach team to get these people into recovery and give them a sense of a hope and support through the Gurdwara.

This is easily one of my True North videos: a very sacred video for me.
The message for Hindus too: For 15 years someone has been telling us that there is fire in our house and we've been ignoring him, and now we realize that our house is actually burning then its got 15 years worth of damage on top. ~ Sayagi Jagraj Singh.
Each time we (Ind/Pak or Hin/Mus) incl. myself replace an opportunity of introspection (leave alone correction) with abuse, we merely tie more knots. All I can do is ask for discernment to take on battles that're relevant and navigate these from my Highest Self. Easily said than done. Acknowledging the struggle and hoping to see a better version of me in action every new day.

This speech is great. Tusi theek kehnde oh. Dekhave hi haiga aa Gurudwaraian ch kuriyan edha kapre, jewelery, the make-up paake aundi aa jive viah the jaariya ne. Instead, dress simple; no makeup, no jewelery, and go to the Gurudwara (Sikh religious temple) to pray. Keep the flashy outfits for parties only. :)
Also, in terms of the overall message, it's the lack of open communication between parent and child that also contributes to these kind of problems. These girls assume that their parents won't listen. In reality the most they will hear is, "tu kyun baar ghaayi si mundiyan naal". "hun tera viah kidda hoyega" in other words, the girls will get BLAMED, so they do not tell their parents. So, once punjabi parents start open communication with their daughters about rape, sexual abuse, domestive violence, and all of these topics which are shunned and stigmatized in our community, only then will these problems get resolved. The perpetrators need to be blamed, not the victims.

Many indian parents don't want to disclose their daughters indiscretions as this would ultimately question their parenting or the severe lack of it in the wider Sikh community. Next some parents feel that if kept quiet they can marry their daughters "OFF" to some unsuspecting Sikh gentlemen in another city. Countless times I have heard indian mothers say to their daughters "after your married you can do what you like". This is almost like washing their hands of their daughters education on self worth and self respect and letting someone else pick up the pieces. This ruins many lives and further disrupts tears the fabric of Sikh society. Parents in this way have devalued self respect, become liars, insulted the intelligence of fellow Sikhs and almost certainly put the pieces in place for a divorce.
Some of these girls have mastered lying to their parents so well in order to lead what they think is an alternative lifestyle (warped sense of freedom) that they will now continue to see their muslim boyfriends after marriage to a Sikh man. Only when some (not all as I acknowledge some are naive and groomed) of these girls relationships with muslim guys sometimes over 4 years at university get found out do they suddenly become "victims of grooming". At this point you have only the girls word for what took place by which time they are masters at lying. This is another reason so many young Sikh girls cannot bear children after leaving university as they have spent sometimes up to 4 years using contraceptives so they can satisfy their muslim boyfriends as if these girls see themselves as exclusive above other girls. This type of girls self respect is only worth the latest iPhone, Gucci, Prada & Versace and getting lifts in BMWs that muslim guys in fashionable clothes have supported each other finanicially to buy in order to carry on the false facade of success as bait for superficial girls.
A sikh girl that claims grooming as a scapegoat after being found out has not only abused the trust of her parents but also the trust of the SAS who work tirelessly against what they see as an epidemic where grooming in concerned.
I have spoken to some Sikh girls in my time and asked them point blank what appeals to you about muslim guys and the answers I got were:
He's got a car (materialistic...people lose cars and money too...then what??)
He's Fit (superficial arrogance...looks don't last "cultural" acceptance and security does)
I don't care what my parents think (disconnection....you will be a parent too one day??!!)
Sikh guys are mummies boys (unable to relate to themselves as a mother one day???)
My parents don't care (Parental communication non existent)
Muslim guys in college and university from my experience focus on Sikh Girls because:
They hold the prejudice that Sikh girls are easy.
Through shame and indirect coercion having a Sikh girl convert will automatically give their whole Muslim family a ticket to their version of heaven.
Unfortunately some uninformed disillusioned Sikh girls live up to this prejudice.
Sikh mothers have disconnected from their daughters having access to far more independence outside of their own personal experiences. The language and communication of some mothers often resonates that the mothers feel cheated that they had no say in their own "arranged" marriage relative to their daughters being able to enjoy the trappings of an ever progressive new world in the UK.
If this is truly the relationship breakdown then Sikh mothers need to realise:
The fact that there was 10 gurus living throughout time who took a pragmatic approach to life should prompt you to realise that Sikhism evolved by their example through 10 lives. Therefore it can be determined that the eternal constant known as the Shabad Guru does not wish you to become stagnant in thought and action as the world around you changes but continue to evolve whilst maintaining balance supported by the constant known as the 11th guru ...the Shabad Guru. If this were not true then there need only have been the first Guru.
~~I wrote this to prompt meditation on the issue and truth of some but not all cases and to prompt action and never against Sikh people.

Why can't Sikh girls see those qualities in Sikh guys? I feel like Jagtar Bhai made it obvious that we as a community are overly focused on the material. Most of Sikh literature is in such a hard to understand Gurmukhi, that most Punjabi speaking Sikhs in Western Word do not understand not even 5% of Shabads and Path and other recitals from the Guru Granth Sahib, take for example Japji Sahib, if you keep reciting it, and don't understand the meaning then is it not pointless going to gurdwara and sit cross legged and listen to reciting and you have killed time, without understanding anything, if only the teachings were translated into simple punjabi then our youths would understand what our Gurus taught us or wanted us to hear and follow, what do we follow when we do not understand. So when we go to Gurdwaras, we enjoy Gur ka Langar, that is just about the only thing that I can understand, so about time Sikh Elders realise why sikhism is dying because our teachings are in a language that our modern youth do not understand, it is like a reading in a different language. (Guri Punjabi ya Gurmukhi) is not a simple easy to understand punjabi spoken in our houses.

I grew up in the society where there were no sikhs except my small family. my father do his nitnem daily. i got inspired from my father and started to read gurmukhi on my own, without anyone else's help. That was my first step towards guru and at that time i was only 13 or 14 yrs old. Guru then took many steps towards me and i took amrit, got baptized. Here i am today, with guru's grace reading gurbani and many other books by great sikh scholars like bhai vir singh on regular basis.

As i am disabled it was hard for me to sit on floor crossed leg being crippled at a young age with arthritis. so i wud always sit away from everyone but felt spiritualy connected. things are changing even know. but gurus wud not have treated me the way people saw me. as i believe in the healing that the temple and my mother brought to me and my sister. the oler generation only some cud read and rite.
