Data, I have an interesting idea for a new series you could do on your channel that I came up with. It is a spin on the career simulations that you do. You could do a career re-sim of a 1st round draft bust in the game of their draft year and find out if they still turn into a complete bust, live up to their draft selection, or land somewhere in between. For example, you could do a career re-simulation on Michael Dal Colle in NHL15. If you want to do a career re-simulation on a specific person, for example, Griffin Reinhart, but you don’t have the game of their draft year, you can look up their attributes and potential and copy them into NHL23.

Evan buddy! I didn't forget your Othmann request last year, either! I was going to add a Perreault simulation to my to-do list just for you but it may be a bit difficult for NHL 23. On top of having to create Perreault as he isn't in the game, any prospect that isn't a top pick is very hard to get onto a particular team as I have to try and manipulate them into drafting him without impacting the league too heavily. A guy like him would be an NHL 24 candidate once he's already in the system and can be added to the team directly! I promise it'll come - just keep reminding me in the future! ;)

Ea really needs to give us more freedom in franchise mode. I understand it's supposed to be a challenge but I play it for realism so essintially once the draft for that year of the game is dome franchise mode just isn't is fun cause you have all these top picks going to different teams. Every single gm mode I'm having to do stupid trades to get bedard to Chicago then sign free agents to trade and get my late picks back. It's annoying af ea sports need to have a trade override feature so you can just move players. People that actually play for Sim purposes wouldn't abuse that feature, I know i wouldn't

EA's removal of the ability to change player type so that you couldn't play around with line chemistry was another big one. The simulation engine seems to hate Caufield's low physical attributes which hold his overall down, and Slafkovsky can be hit or miss in my experience. I hate simulations man, Caufield had more goals in his 21 year old year in 46 games then his 26 year old year at 11:47, like it isn’t realistic at all.

I know what you mean! Unfortunately the AI GM usually signs players instead of letting prospects develop. So, in this sim, players like Roy, Beck, Mailloux, etc. never got much of a chance as the AI GM continued to use the growing salary cap to sign free agents in their place

Also keep the scale in mind as 79 OVR would be fringe NHL/top pair AHL, something that I think Reinbacher has proven as he plays top-pair minutes in a men's league. A 71 OVR would be more like a 3rd pair AHL defenseman who still needs a lot of growth. Obviously Reinbacher needs growth, but, as I already mentioned, things like a high physicality ratings prop up his overall a bit. Furthermore, remember that "potential" is exactly that - potential. Reinbacher may not BECOME elite, but he has the POTENTIAL to do so. Capping out the 5th overall pick as a top-4 defenseman at such a young age doesn't feel right. That's why he got the potential that he did and, in this simulation, he ran with it.
I can rationalize this a tad more since he was an 88 OVR at 22 years of age and, by then, with the salary cap around $95M, $11.31M would be proportionate to about $9.9M today. Still too much, but a little easier to swallow (especially when also taking into consideration how defensemen are paid way more in Franchise Mode the further you get into it).
I mean nothing bad about the kid, but NHL23 sure hates MTL lol, an other long stretch before going into the playoff? Caufield barely getting more than 25 goals a year.

One that's Habs specific - I do not! I usually just create the top prospects from each team which is why Hutson is there

Haha I think he's somewhere in the low 60s! EA rarely rates European prospects appropriately, not to mention that their most recent rosters are from the trade deadline. That's why I created him myself!
