Its super interesting hearing more info about Maine-gramm & gramp were born there & moved when gramp served in WW2. They missed it, but not the Winters they'd grown up in (born 1914 & 1915). Lots of relatives came & visited them or sent Autumn leaves in big envelopes by mail😊, when I was super little-I loved how they'de talk❤; that drop the 'r' & save for later! 'Paak tha cah'😊. Love to visit there someday-not sure I could afford or am hardy enough to live there though! Not sure of spelling, but Kenibunkport, Agusta, Bangor, I recall hearing of~
Kennebunkport is George Bush's summer house, walkers point. The coolest home is where they filmed Dark Shadows. Augusta is the capital. Bangor is Steven Kings hometown.
Good video. I think I'll pass and stay in Texas. I grew up in Minnesota, the mosquitoes and horse flies are the worse. The Fall and Winter were not bad. Spring was flooding. In reality you could only swim about 2-3 weeks during the Summer as lake is freezing cold I guess Maine would be the same too.
I could never live in Maine it's way too cold for me, though iv'e heard they take care of each other with game meat and garden goods if your struggling to survive
We were looking at Maine but decided that taxes were too high in the areas we were finding affordable land. We moved to WV because of lower taxes, no building restrictions in our area and we love it here.
From a family of 5 generations of Mainers. You are talking about the Maine that used to be 46 years ago, we are now a welfare state since the liberals took it over. This state is not the State of my ancestors. I'm in a town of 1200 and I can't even put a tiny house on my property with the main house because the outer-staters whipped up a planning board to restrict our freedoms, we must have 2 acres per unit, I lack 3/4 acre. . A tiny house would be like having another room to the present house, since it would be off grid. There is no 'independence in Maine unless you are doing what you want to do without checking in at the town office. I know someone that was turned down when they wanted to add a room to their house, they added the room anyway. The 'outsiders' ruined Maine as they escaped the mess they made in their state but brought their ways with them infecting the rest of us with the restrictions Southern Maine is the worst, filled with liberals, the population is so great they install their liberal policies for the rest of Maine's population. Do a search, MO. is the state for individual freedoms
To be honest, this is a huge part of why we left Maine in 2005. Thinking about it now, looking back, we took the easy way out. It's not too late to turn things around. Of course, this means getting involved in politics, getting on the local boards, and voting conservative.
I live off grid in Maine. I built my own home and only needed a 25 dollar 'permit' to built whatever I wanted. I did all plumbing, electrical etc. Stop playing the victim, plenty of Maine is very free. And yes I moved here from Mass.
Thanks for making this video because we are considering Maine. Black Flies sound bad, how long do they last? No light in the winter will be great (major photosensitivity/light aversion). I'm looking at different places in Maine and the unorganized boroughs look like they have pretty low property taxes. Did I miss something? Considering 'down east' Maine. Southern Maine would probably be too politically annoying for me. Going up to Lubec in September.
I watch a RUclipsr that retired to Maine they live off grid. I'm from the mitten and I miss the summers and fall. I hate KY summers. My oldest lived in the UP and I would so move up or even Maine but I have grandbabies here. But yes SO many folks moving this way, since I've been here since 98, the increase of people moving here has been unreal in the last 5yrs.
For some reason the video cut off super randomly, I was hoping for more info on the crime, and love the way Rob takes his time to explain everything. Oh well, maybe camera battery went to 0. All I have to say is that I know Maine is a nice state for being off the grid. Yes the state is blue colored (politically), but I believe the majority of blue is in the larger towns like Portland and should not discourage anyone from moving up north there. People miss on the point that self sufficient life is to "prepare" for when the marxists take over so no matter where you go it will be blue everywhere eventually however it is best to find a smaller town that is somewhere in the mountain range area so that it has less chances of becoming more populated super fast over the next 5 years. For the last 3 years since the beginning of 2021 I always dream of Maine eventually being the state I could buy a getaway hunting property for when "you know what hits the fan", and hopefully within the next few years it will be a reality.
I love Maine and have been going there my whole life. They need to boot their governor OUTTA the state and country! She is horrible! Windmills are going up and also some solar fields. Horrible.
When we lived up there, our property was the west side of a big hill (mountain). They asked if they could put a windmill at the back of our property at the high point of the land.
True but it gave half it's electoral votes to trump twice because of Portland. It's very pro gun. It's been constitutional carry since 2014. So is new hampshire which is by far the best hope in north east. Beautiful mountains. No sales tax, no income tax.
I can’t say that the state sucks…I’ve lived her my whole life, but as a conservative, knowing that your liberal democrat government thinks you are the Antichrist kind of makes me feel bitter about where the state is heading….
My opinion, at the local level, Maine is pretty evenly split. Yes, they vote Democrat for president. The issue, conservatives want to be left alone and live life. Liberals are crazy politically active.

Yes they are.

I would think Maine and Minnesota weather is pretty similar.
I'm a swamp Yankee been tryina go north for years now. Prices went nuts though.
Prices are nuts pretty much everywhere.
I could never live in Maine it's way too cold for me, though iv'e heard they take care of each other with game meat and garden goods if your struggling to survive
Maine is the third or fourth coldest state.
I was hoping for more contents but the video cut off all of a sudden.
@@GoosePondHideoutWithRob It's a beautiful state but no place for an old bald guy lol
I try to keep my videos around 9 minutes long. I was at 11 minutes and, yes, my battery died. I incorrectly assumed it was charged.

I never made it over to Lubec. If we were going to move back to Maine, we would definitely be looking in the greater Machias area.

I spent time in the UP. Actually spent part of a summer on Isle Royale.

Hello man 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I love maine but in that area id rather pay a little more to live in New hampshire. No income tax no sales tax, also very pro gun state.
Each person needs to do their own research and follow their path.

Only the south of Maine is blue AKA cities the rest of them are conservative .
