I always thought the head's death animation was funny. I mean, it rips off your head, hijacks your body, but has to lift itself into a better position with its new hand. To me, that's kinda like a villain messing up for a second at being evil. *"I finally have a new body. And with it, I shall now-* oh, wait, shit, it happened again. I'm upside down."

I always thought dividers are just necromorphs that had all there limbs removed that are basically put back together by an infector
that an interesting thought, I wonder if that really could be the case
it is pretty interesting adds an element of futility to it all
I'd always assumed they were cobbled together from the various discarded bits and pieces that get blown off other necromorphs, each having become its own little necromorph after removal. That was my rationale for why they're the only necromorph who's limbs are motive after being removed.

Apparently the art team for the game looked at autopsy photos from fatal car wrecks and such to get a better idea of a disfigured human corpse. That's some dedication right there.

@@haydenscott8009 that depends on what kind of person you are. I grew up watching crime shows, to the point even seeing graphic imagery of blood and gore doesn't disgust me anymore. Back when one of my cousins was still working as a coroner (now a full-time paramedic), he used to show me pictures of the bodies from his job while we had lunch. One I vividly recall is the photo of this woman who's head was split open after she fell from an 18-storey building in a crack-infused haze. Freaky!

The divider has the coolest execution in my opinion. It's the closest thing to a necromorph version of Isaac we got aside from the swarm in dead space 3. Glad you checked the interview that I talked you about, it seems we both have the same opinion on that topic

Not just dead bodies, but the unusable ones as well. Which is why I said they make mistakes. They'll put themselves on dead bodies, then hop right off of them once they realize the body is unusable
Side note: The clothing, while it may seem like an officers, I'm not too sure. Isaac's girlfriend wore that labcoat and those big bastards look to kind of be wearing one as well

My first divider was pretty funny: i just went up to the shop and decided to buy the flamethrower. Barely enough money to get one and nothing else. So i did that. No workbench around? alrighty then stock flamer it is then! Walk through the door and hear the bastards groan. Then he came around the corner in all it´s ugly glory, so i started torching the bastard. First he fell over and i felt relieve. Next thing i know is that i was backing off and filling the entire damn hallway with fire then pulling my line gun and rain line gun bolts at everything moving. ran through half my ammo supply but hey. It was dead! xD

I've always thought the divider was various parts of necromorphs from different origins, like a slasher with its head cut off, or a leaper without an arm, and the marker didn't want anything to waste and designed the divider to work with various parts, in a sort of colony

This necromorph was definitely one of the creepiest ones from the first game, primarily because of the noise it makes. There is something bizarre about something so slender and clumsy being able to produce a sound comparable to a giant humpback whale.

I still remember one of the only deaths I got on my first Dead Space 2 playthrough was when I was looking through my inventory, near the end of the game, trying to work out what I could drop to pick up this Superconductor. Then I finally made my decision, picked it up and turned to leave down the only way out of where I came in AND JESUS CHRIST ALMIGHTY IT IS TALL, SPINDLY, WRITHING AND IT WON'T STOP MAKING NOISES AND I CAN'T SEE AND- *dead*. I was very bitter when I went back the second time, stood on the conductor and waited until that fucker slinked out and I did not stop shooting until I was ABSOLUTELY SURE it was gone. Bastards xD

You just described the power-node room in Chapter 13! It's worth that ruby conductor, even on Zealot difficulty. Problem is, the nearest store is miles away from there! XD

I believe in dead space 2 they were scientists, in DS1 the grey coat looks like an officers uniform

Also, whenever I encountered this thing, I tended to freak out a bit since I would be caught off guard.
Not to mention, seeing the tentacle appendages moving all over the place was......unnerving.

Well technically, the best way to kill a Necromorpph is to "divide" it. Be that with a Plasma Cutter, Line Gun, or even Isaac's steel-toed boot :P

The Divider has to be my favorite Necromorph, mainly based on the head's kill animation.
It definitely ranks up there for me as well!
One of my favorite things about the divider is it's really deep bellowing cry, it's really uncharacteristic as most necros just respond to you with growls and yells. Also, another thing I love is how again, unlike most necros, the divider isn't really as hyper-aggressive towards you as others. While most necros want nothing more than to get in your face and disembowel you, the divider is really methodical in it's approach of killing you. Just adds to the mysteriousness of the thing.
Plus did you know is the head that makes that noise? in DS1 after it decapitates you, Isaac will make that noise, or really whats left of Isaac, as it lumbers away
Roanoke Gaming Really? I thought that it was the head itself doing that. Btw, it's hilarious how that head can go from sound squeaky and shrill to deep and loud lol. I remember when you were onboard the USM Valor, before you entered the shooting range, you would hear a really pissed off sounding version of that same deep cry, and you only heard it in that point in the entire franchise if I'm not mistaken lol.

What do you think about the 2-3 Divider heads that, when they took over a few soldiers, knew how to use the soldiers' guns and started firing at Isaac? I'm pretty sure the Divider was one of the only Necromorphs in the series to use a gun... still, were the Dividers smarter or something? Can't remember if it was DS2 or DS3, probably 3.
the head looks like the brain may still be intact, perhaps the marker signal uses the heads knowledge to learn how the fire the weapon, although it looks like a game of telephone because it doesn't use the knowledge very effectively lol

They're getting smarter.
Also those same guys can throw their heads at you, and if you lose not only you turn, but the other body will follow yours. Wonder if it will try to steal the head back again.
I remember that was in DS3 in form of Creeper(basically the Divider head but no one else is there) and Shamblers(corpses the Creeper hijacks)
To be frank, this is my favourite necromorph apart from the infector

Given how rare the Divider is to see and how tall it is, it could be that Dividers come from the corpses of those who have a genetic condition that causes them to be much taller than average, such as Marfan Syndrome or a pituitary tumor.

The Divider easily has my favorite death animations in the series. When I first saw the animation where it hijacks Isaac's body and lumbers away twitching I literally shouted "Holy shit thats fucking awesome!" and then promptly died a few more times to it to see it again :p Definitely the creepiest Necromorph for me.
After seeing it the first time I was like "yah I am NEVER letting that happen again" haha
and yet here we are with my dead space videos making it happen on purpose haha
The divider seems like it’s supposed to be an infiltration unit. It’s smart, uses many independent allies parts, so I would imagine they would behead and control someone so that they can draw out human comrades who might expose themselves to a human figure in familiar gear
Dividers always did look weirder and are more disturbing than other necros. Great video once again.

As a horror survival game with tight shooting mechanics and not much multiplayer let alone co-op playability I find it hard for there to be a BR dead space. Unless it's something crazy like the necromorphs are free chasing players but at the same time you have to kill other players? Doesn't sound logical

7:45 Most officers weren't pregnant I bet, but "big boned" people also can become a pregnant necromorph due to their additional/organic mass being used to create swarmers (see dead space downfall, deathscene in the bathroom). So you could imagine that those officers lived a wealthy life.
The Divider's head burrowing into Isaac's body is one of the most disturbing death scenes in Dead Space.😰

I always had a thought the reason why Dividers were so rare is that they aren't effective in combat as you said, they have alot of weaknesses. Considering we only see, what? ONE Divider in DS2 and NONE at all in DS3, it's like Darwinism... Only Dead Space!
My *FAVORITE* C: I like that the devs usually put them in at the more atmospheric, slow moments rather than stuffing them in at the loud action-y bits. That slow, foreboding horror is my absolute favorite.

Have I said how much I've enjoyed these little trips down memory lane of necromorph lore? I just loved reading about them and the gory details behind their origins. I just got to this section while replaying the first game where you see the first divider. Funnily enough, it seems like these guys do not like the hand cannon in DS2 because I've run into a hiccup where maybe the game doesn't know what to do because I killed them so fast at where you are at the 3:18 mark and it freezes up so I have to reset and actually wait a little before killing them to move forward. That execution with turning Isaac into a necromorph was pretty creepy, especially with how quickly it happened. I did see that article about the potential for DS4 and I would like to have seen Ellie take the lead to kind of make up for her not being well written in DS3, at least to me, with the whole romance thing with Norton. They should have just left it to Isaac and Ellie working together much like in DS2. The idea of maybe a small resistance scavenging while the moons have seeming taken over might be a neat idea with the whole 'all hope is lost' idea. There is still the question of who actually invented the markers in the first place and maybe DS4 could have been what DS3 should have been which was the heroes going to the source planet and finally being rid of the menace for good. If it was some sort of advance alien race, how would they stop it since it's clear that they were able to dominate the universe by corrupting the thoughts and minds of all life forms in the universe. If done right, maybe the angle could have been better. I saw the idea of it being like the beginning of DS3 out when you're exploring the ships and I like that idea because exploring them gave a creepy vibe whilst in them because of the compact space and vague sounds here and there. If only there wasn't the possibility of some kind of interference to force something ridiculous like the MTX ration packs. That was dumb to have for what was, to me, an easy game even on hard for my first playthrough.
that's the whole reason I do these, it gives me a giant excuse to read up on some dead space and speculate on the reasons these creatures are the way they are!

Roanoke Gaming Awesome! Yeah, I always thought we didn't see enough of it, but that also made me believe it was something like a leader of brutes or tripods. When I was younger, I saw the Tormentor's near invincibility as a defining factor for what role it would have if it was the only one of its kind.

I like the divider in the 1st game you see them a lot and you have to watch out if the head and limbs split and in the 2nd one you hardly see them your face like a couple of them and that's it and in the 3rd it was alright but nothing special how it was in the 1st and 2nd game but its a pretty good necromorph good job man

Shoulda been more of em in ds 1 & 2. There was exactly 3 or 4 in the 1st even less dividers then brutes... The noise these things make are scary as hell. Sounds like John Carpenters Thing to. I used to carry the flamethrower just for these guys in 2 and the brutes & the pack. BURN IT MACCREADY
I wonder if they were hard to make or something, and apparently if you hit it with a flame thrower it is instant death and they don't break apart, definitely a callout to the thing
