Interesting how the wheel speed is untethered due to the lack of a gearbox. I wonder if adding a switch to limit maximum wheel speed would help modulate drifts?
Heh I don't think Audi is going to add a drift mode/switch :D It's kind of amazing seeing an electric car do this in the first place - From watching The Straight Pipes, they try to get ev's sideways any amount, and it's really hard always. But Ken Block of course makes it look easy on this car!
@@Juuul89 The Cross Turismo has those ugly black plastic things around the wheels. They've recently also brought out the Sport Turismo, which is what the Cross Turismo should've been.
interesting having the steering wheel paddle shifters be more of a vertical button than one on a lever. nifty look! Props! Thanks for sharing the edit!
I have to say, front headlights I love. A set of widebody fenders or aero extensions around them fender front/rear would be really nice. Loving the ride.
A variable throttle setup in a few 1/4 setups min/max is a bit tough. Need some micro. You had a good slide going though, even with the stability/braking assist stopping you from Hoon bliss. Got to get into that pc of that thing and see what it is doing in there. Devs can get you a hoon-controller in there or something. Like paddle shifters but for hoon-control.
I think there might be a big market for aftermarket control boxes that let you manipulate maximum wheel speed and throttle curve maybe. And since some new cars brake by wire - couldnt you just put an electric button that just locks up the rear brakes?
I think you already know, but if you hold the traction control button for 3-5 second the car will turn off all the assistance (the dynamic mode isn’t doing that). It will make it easier to drift.
Be nice to know how the battery pack stood up to this, how many hours did it last, what was the drain and percentage used. No information to suggest was all of this on 1 charge or multiple
Such an awesome opportunity for the young buck, and really cool that y'all brought him out and hooked him up with a ride. A little jealous, but he def deserved it. Lol
I wonder if Audi Sport could customize some firmware to adjust torque bias, throttle maps, ESC and whatnot. I mean, I'm sure they could, but...would they, even for KB?
Agreed. I'm not too keen on VW Group and others going the EV route but seriously, seeing the RS e-Tron GT in person was just mind-blowing with overall performance. Much more than my buddy's NA2 NSX, my B9 RS5 Sportback, as well as my buddy's 991 GT3 when we encountered it on the highway. Like I seriously underestimated the living hell out of both the RS e-Tron GT and the Porsche Taycan Turbo S. Friggin' Ghosts
I'm sure he'll figure it out. He is a professional driver. We all can see that even when you're at the top, there's always room for improvement. Very inspiring. I'm sure that kid will take home a very big lesson from his wonderful experience watching the legendary driver, figure it all out again from scratch.
Getting the hang of the Audi is a little different then gas cars but your getting the hang off it I wanna tell you what a wonderful thing to take that young man on a ride on the Audi was a amazing thing the smile on his face was priceless I hope you keep doing things like that when you can it can really change the life of a person.
I watched a UPS driver drift the big brown truck, granted it was in snow, but still. He was doing his morning drop off route, so he was still loaded with packages lol!
Did Audi program a dyno mode or a full off on the stability systems for you to play around? It looked like the front tires a couple times were trying to correct the car on the high speed slides at the end. In the audio you could hear a rhythm of speeding up and slowing down doing the figure 8 work. I don't know if that was driver input or the car intervening.... It would be very cool to see you get out in a RS6 or some other audi products and slay them out there also if Audi will provide the opportunity. Love the content!
That’s absolutely awesome doing that for the foundation for small children and people with children of these is anybody that does that is absolutely awesome
Man this thing is on a whole other level of performance and difficulty to pull the types of drifting Ken is used to. The level of recalibration necessary is so high! The senses need a lot of retraining if one is to hoon an EV of this caliber like it should be done. Luckily we got the perfect man for the job and I am pretty sure the racecar version of this bad-boy will receive all of the computer adaptations necessary to make the pedal feel a bit more like a car with gears (and throw in a proper hand brake as well because #gymkhana!) I've never seen Ken this focused and busy with a steering wheel, holly shit. 🙌🏽
I wonder if they somehow incorporate a fly off handbrake into the new Hoonitron. Shouldnt be a problem i guess ? I'm kinda excited for the Hoonitron, Electric or not, i think thats a cool new thing. I wonder how different it is to drift to an ICE because of the missing soundclues, you dont hear it that easy when the car looses tractions, theres no sudden rise in RPMs, i imagine it could be extremely difficult on a wet road where your tires dont immediately scream in pain.
They are DC brushless motors. A firmware upgrade, button/s with assigned presets on the steering can make those motors brake, accelerate or reverse independently. @KenBlock & @Audi could add a whole new dimension to rally.
@@Frontslash123 Thats what i thought, its not really a big thing to add. ICEs are way more complicated with that but Electric Motors ? I beat they already incorporated something like that into the new Hoonitron. I bet it also has a less restrictive Firmware in general. Take a look at the Opel Mante GsE A fully electric Manta which has a Manual Gearbox and no restrictive Software, that thing spins it wheels like hell and is always on the verge of smoking that Gearbox.
Ahhh this makes me emotional. Ahh Ken is an amazing soul. He’s missed for certain. I don’t usually get emotional over celebrities passing. Yet he hits me hard every time. He was just an amazing person. I know he is at peace checking into his family often. And truly at peace. He’s missed by us and his family. ❤
Someone needs to put two prongs on the back of the car and gap electricity through it like a giant stun gun for the exhaust effect. You just hear electricity crackling when the car passes by lol
Seems like electric drifting needs some sort of tachometer together with some sort of sound assistance to indicate where in the power range / wheel speed range the car is.
Reminds me of how my turbo project drove when I had the wastegate plumbed wrongly to the plenum instead of pre-throttle - damn thing was on/off and you almost couldn't control a slide in it, very much like this EV throttle of 100mph while the body is doing 10mph etc. Similar behaviour, similar issue. Thinking about the software to make this behave well, tricky to write. Hmmmm.
love the extra tryhard face Ken made when the lil man was on board for his rip!!
Seen that too mad respect
Ken, you are awesome. The massive smile on that kids face!
that ending was amazing. Class act Ken, way to make that kids day. Smiles per mile!

I think adding sound connected to the wheelspeed will give more feedback for ken to adjust the drift, at the moment it's all more or less silent.
Given its all electronics it should just be a matter of some hacking of the onboard computer and giving it an emulated sequential "gearbox"!
This car NEEDS to be a wagon! With that same paint scheme and the topper. Would be so sick!
wagons are always better
There's a porsche version of this car which is essentially the same car and that's a wagon, i think it's called the cross turismo

that was super dope of you Ken giving the young lad a ride! I’m sure he’ll remember that day forever 👍
I love how quickly he answered back yes you should when you asked if you should try again, Carson is awesome.

Super cool, very kind for doing that for that boy. Also could tell how much you were working to drift that thing with no e-brake, mad kuddos!

It sounds so wrong without engine noise bouncing off the limiter 😆 I still love this car though.
Some clips from this would make great asmr since its unique to do donuts without engine sounds

Glad to see the electric astroturfing will probably subside for a while based on the sudden lack of a suitable host.
