Brand new tyres, X-ICE michelin. I made it without a slipping tyres. This winter, with same tyres but a little bit worn, it was having a struggeling moment to made it. Same test was done from the same position, in the middle. Tyres always matter, weight also, audi e-tron is nearly 400Kg heavier than my A6 or 300kg heavier than RS6 and it has two motors, no torque converter, direct connected to the rear and front axle, that's bennefit or unfair let's say.

That RS e-tron was amazing. I think indeed the ability for slip management systems to control motor output so quickly and immediately does give it a huge advantage over mechanical systems. The older systems cannot apply/lift/apply/lift power as quickly or in as small increments.
theres cars out there with Xdrive 4matic and quattro badges and they all use haldex systems. Only some more powerfull and sporty models like the rs6 in this video use a more rwd based system. What i mean is that these days Quattro is just a badge. Yeah audi will perform better most of the time in snow but there is no such thing as a quattro system its just a badge for all awd audis
This video was probably made for fun, but it is actually extremely interesting and useful... it would be amazing if you start using it as benchmark for future reviews to see how different 4WD systems work! In this case, however, you should tell us which tyres are mounted. E.g.: - Touareg v Q8 v Cayenne (sort of "VW snow showdown") - Defender v Wrangler v Jimny - Q5 v GLC v X3 - Range Rover v Bentayga v Cullinan
I prefer the Audi RS e-tron GT! It looks so cool, sporty and futuristic and have an insane 646hp and 830Nm of torque from 2 electric motors! It's my ultimate Audi dream car!
Having owned a 4wd with twin electric motors, electric is indeed very good at getting you moving and the weight helps. But the catch is stopping where the weight is against you. This video should have done a brake test going down the hill and applied halfway. I suspect the EV would have stopped somewhere in the Cafe.
Think people forget evs have engine breakingas soon as you touchthe break, and combined with tra tion control its Effectivly a much faster reacting Abs before abs kicks in.
@@simonhenry7867 E tron doesn't engine brake much at all unless you hit the wheel paddles, it just gives a slight regen or slight acceleration by standard to coast at a fairly constant rate no matter if it's a slight decline or incline. As someone who lives in a place that gets LOTS of snow and shitty weather it feels very well thought out for winter conditions but at the end of the day a 2500kg SUV is still sketchy when you break traction particularly in a downhill on sleet.
The quattro system in the RS3 is actually not made by Haldex/Borg Warner, it is a system made by Magna that has two clutch packs for each rear wheel instead of only one clutch pack for the rear axle in the Haldex/Borg Warner system.
Snow was compacted by the much heavier cars which made it harder for the little rs3 at the end, bet if the cars started the other way around it would’ve been a different result

Not really surprised to be honest. The extra thousand pounds in weight help tremendously from a dead stop on packed snow. There is a reason why snow plows will add weight when plowing snow.

EV torque vectoring is no joke. Electric motors can send such precise levels of torque to any individual wheel to a level that ICE just cannot match

4WD EV Audis are better on snow than even ZR1 Corvettes.
RS6 had 22 inch low profile tires but the etron GT had 20 or 21 inch tires. That makes a difference espeically starting from the corner.
Both the EVs I've owned have phenomenal traction control. It's just able to react quicker.

Oh yeah, EVs can modulate power very well so they can be much closer to the limit of traction. That's a big advantage in low traction scenarios.
