I read “Real Magic” around ‘73, I was prob not yet 14 (quite a precocious reader from a young age), liked bits & pieces such as the colour thing being based in prejudice (I name all my 🐈⬛ after old blues singers, many who never got their due until now to honour them). Then I met him in the 90s when I owned an occult shop. Quite full of himself but all I’ve ever heard was about his wives. I knew one, Sally Eaton (check her out, fab!) who was supposed to teach some classes at my shop but it never came thru. I did, however distance myself from the occult community fairly far away, so never heard of any allegations. I found him to be a very obvs flirt. Love the new series! Cheers! Love your channel! I've been watching all your videos for about a year, but this is my first comment. I read Real Magic way back in the probably-mid-nineties, and to be honest I don't remember much about it other than his ideas about color. I too have heard some weird and creepy things about Bonewits. There used to be a fair amount of creepy behavior from men toward women in the NeoPagan/occult community. There seemed to be this "you're a Pagan female, which means you're "sex-positive," which means you'll have sex with me" assumption. Maybe it's better now? I don't know, as I'm a hermit. BTW, Richard Bach also wrote Jonathan Livingston Seagull. That was a kind of semi-metaphysical/spiritual book that was super-popular in the seventies. Oldster here, lol.
I think you're right - up until the early 2000s it seems as though many men in the pagan/esoteric communities took advantage of women with their "spiritual elitism"... Very frustrating. There's also a whole section of people taking advantage of women or young teenagers coming into these communities by telling them that they need a spiritual "mentor"... It's gross! I'm so glad times have changed and there seems to be less of that now (according to my limited perspective.)
How fast do you read 😮 When you compare the book with others you have read, I always wonder which book you loved more over that particular one. Anyhow... Loved the video ❤
I can definitely add in comparisons! Do you mean compared to other books I'm reading in the vlog or other books I have read in the past? I do read very fast. That is one gift I have which makes up for where I lack in other areas. 😆
@@IvyTheOccultist, thank you for responding to my message. I wish I could read as fast... cause my to read pile grows faster than I can read. For example, in this video you said at 29:00 that you would not consider Real Magic a staple, but other books that were just as old or older that you would consider a staple. Always interesting to know which book you would recommend.

Isaac Bonewits was a giant egoist. But he was an important figure in Paganism n the 70s and 80s. He is interviewed in Drawing Down the Moon by Margot Adler. Nobody needs to endorse him now, he's dead. Ptolemy Tompkins is the son of Peter Tompkins, who wrote The Secret Life of Plants. Peter was part of Timothy Leary's or Ken Kesey's crews, the whole "LSD drop out" scene in the 70s. So Ptolemy grew up surrounded by the woo, and has continued his dad's work, I guess, writing a lot of New Age books on NDEs and such.
When you were talking about Scott Cunningham being so sweet and nostalgic, it almost made me cry because I remember how much I loved his writing. Gods I need to get more of his books.
The Julius Evola mentioned in blurb of last book was very far-right. When arrested for promoting fascism after wwii he called himself a super fascist, guy also worked with SS. So, views of his rumored lover are probably going to raise eyebrow at times.
i just decluttered my occult book collection. i had 14 books just on crystals! come on really lol i also picked out books i've had forever and never read or if the pages got a tad yellowish with age. i tried to pair down to all in one books, instead of 5-6 books that say the same things. i just hope when i drop them off at the donation center, that a witch who needs them, will find them.

Staple... I have no idea if I wrote that correctly. In Dutch it means something completely different 🤣
This is such a fun idea, I really love that you bought the books secondhand too. Seeing your reaction to the first book was beautiful.
Seems like This Tree Grows Out of Hell is an academic text.

Have you read Intuitive Witchcraft? ❤❤❤
Just got infinite intelligence from meher baba🙏awesome book
Thank you for the background on these two; I appreciate it! 🙏
@@IvyTheOccultist I'm a librarian, I can't help it.
what shiiiii i cant do that ill get a half a book in a week lol but audible now that ill have a book a day
Audible for the win! 😂
When you were talking about Scott Cunningham being so sweet and nostalgic, it almost made me cry because I remember how much I loved his writing. Gods I need to get more of his books.
We need more Scott Cunninghams in the world! 😭
The Julius Evola mentioned in blurb of last book was very far-right. When arrested for promoting fascism after wwii he called himself a super fascist, guy also worked with SS. So, views of his rumored lover are probably going to raise eyebrow at times.
That is good to know; thank you!
u fukn read that other big book in a daayy?!!?!?! whaat
😂😂 I told someone else that this is the one gift I have, but ask me to do basic elementary algebra and I can't lol
Thanks for the review. I have to pick up some, or all, of these books.
i just decluttered my occult book collection. i had 14 books just on crystals! come on really lol i also picked out books i've had forever and never read or if the pages got a tad yellowish with age. i tried to pair down to all in one books, instead of 5-6 books that say the same things. i just hope when i drop them off at the donation center, that a witch who needs them, will find them.
I love this so much!!! I have been wanting to do an "unhaul" video where I get rid of books instead of keeping them 😂 I'm sure a witch will be very excited to have your books!
I love this idea! A couple months back I did a reading live to where I was participating in this type of challenge where you read 15 to 20 minutes of a book and you move onto another book after that. I have been thinking of doing this again since I WANTED to read more for the new year especially since I got books on stoicism. I love that the book has prompts! Give me the prompts!!! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 I'm going to add book 1 to my cart. It might make me cry because of the death of my Mom and other family members but I think it would be best to go through it. For book 2, I wonder how blood became so prominent and extremely important in there culture and religion like why? 🤔 For book 3, I TOTALLY agree with you on people being too scared or quite to voice there opinions about things.
