Harley Pan America | 1000 Mile Service - How did it go?

- Harley Davidson recommends the first service at 1000 miles. My H-D Pan America has had no major issues in days I've been riding. What did the dealership find when I took my Pan American in?
It cost me $401. $30 of that was to turn my hand controls to match my bar riser position. Now I know how do do that.
Donnie and Scott were awesome and the whole service department at Harley Davidson of Baltimore was extremely helpful and nice! Thanks for the time!

LOL, that dude in the truck. The bike's looking great. My favorite part of any new machine is figuring out how it works and everything that goes into it. The learning is definitely the fun part.
You saw that huh? It reminded me of back in they day kids were like, "Hey, wouldn't be a great idea to ride in the back of pickup"! LOL. Yeah lots to figure out, but its definitely fun like you state!
Just bought a Black 2022 Pan America. I have 3 other Harleys and 5 bikes all together and this is by far the most interesting motorcycle I have ever owned. Many good reviews online and I can say it all seems legit, its a great machine!
Totally a great machine! Congrats on your bike!
Got my Pan-AM special serviced at Frederick Harley-Davidson last Thursday, no problems reported or found, mine was the 2nd bike they've seen for service. Service tech was great, explained what he was looking for etc., Thanks Frederick Harley for the great service.
That’s super awesome! Sounds about like the same experience I had too!
Dress for the slide not the ride😀. Gloves are mostly to avoid getting hands scraped clean off. Thanks for sharing this. I am a dealer I Denmark and agree what your tech have told you. Yes the books says 2,5 hours but really that number is only possible if the bike is already on the lift strapped down. All the tools are available at arm length and the tech knows by heart exactly what to do. And there is a lot to do on the PA… not like it is “more complicated” but a lot of service points are harder to reach (needs more disassembly/assembly). So in the real world with a trained and experienced tech - and a bit of handling we are looking at more like 3-3,5 hours of uninterrupted work to do a service on the PA
Some great points! It sounds very similar to what the tech and service manager told me. I want to ride in Denmark!!! :D
Great vid, thanks for sharing your experiences ..All the best with your Pan America, following from the UK
Thanks for the kinds words mate! I've got some pretty epic adventures planed...lets see how plays out :D! What wheels do you have on that side of the pond?
@@MCCJustMotos I have a Honda Fireblade and a Honda CB500X.
All of us are learning about these bikes, dealers and owners alike. Mine now has about 6000 miles on it. It just seems to get better every time I ride it. Good video. Thanks for sharing.
So true, we are learning a lot. Awesome on your miles, what has surprised you the most in your time with the bike so far?
@@MCCJustMotos Nothing has really surprised me. The bike performs better than I hoped it would. A lot of riders who have never owned a Harley seem surprised that the MoCo could build a bike like this. I think that those of us who have owned Harley’s knew it was just a matter of choice to focus on traditional chromed out cruisers, not a lack of expertise.
@@SNOWBIRDBIKER Very well spoken!
GR8 video !
Thansk!!! :)
Always to have a look to the Bikers review of their bikes. Thanks bro 😎
Awesome, I dig others reviews too!
Cool Bro’ … 🏍😎👍
Thanks Dude!!!
Cheers for this dude...getting my one finally next week in Sussex UK. Try titanium wrap on the pipe..bring the plastic guard out about an inch..gets bloody hot..also, our demo bike allen key on the cover snapped...cooling and heating issue probably....also had an idea to make the screen less wobbly ...let you know....can't wait to ride it.just in time for the autumn and winter..lol...ride safe.

Haha Thanks man! I must have an anomaly of a bike. It does not get uber hot. Warm a bit but not bad! I’ve felt much worse (Indian Scout)! Well keep me in the loop on your bike and windscreen! What color bike do you get?
Short supply here..gonna be the talk of the town..lol...green..wanted black, but then all the triumohs are black and the green is nice for where i live in the forest..also got a bit of a " mad max" thing going on....love the pwer delivery and the ergonomics...chopped in electraglide standard for her...glide no good on my back....gonna feel like an army despatch rider!!😆 be in touch
Hey bud. Great videos. Also got my Pan Am and I love it.
Where did you get your after market radiator grill if you can share the link?
Thanks and keep it up
Thanks Alberto! I have my radiator grill video coming out today as well, I bought it off Ebay. $40
So no problems raising the bars with the risers? Cables and wiring ok?
Thanks!
No problems with the bars, wiring is fine!
Well, i find the service a kuds game....piece of cake ive done it my self...
But, what i find strange on the revo max engine is that its very noicy engine🤔
Are they really suposed to sound more from the engine than the exhaust?
Yup, I’ve heard the 1st service is not too difficult..But it allows software updates which the owner can’t to, plus I find it good to have a 2nd and 3rd set of eyes (besides mine) go over the motorcyle in the long run. Plus it was $$ reasonable. As far as exhaust/engine noise? I like the just off idle exhaust blip noise and the high rpm wail. Thanks for the watch!
Do the risers obstruct your vision to the instruments?
They are fully adjustable, so you can tweak them to your liking. But, no I can actually see more of the screen now lol
You need to remove the tank to get to your air filter???
S
I hear that’s the best way. I did not do it myself but that’s what i heard.
That's pretty much the way on most modern bikes now.
@@terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff yup :)
Have u taken it off road yet
Nope, only briefly on dirt roads. I am waiting for a real bash plate (order and on the way) and radiator shield (installed and new video dropping soon) before I feel comfortable enough to try it.
$400 for a service? Jesus! Do you get a reach around?
How much was your first service?
I set on one the other day.Its not a valid adventure bike.It is a overpowered sports touring bike.Lets get real in the mud or dirt it would ne nigh unto useless. The Himalayan will go places that the hard to maintain overpriced ducati wannabe will never get to.Try working on it and see what that cost you.
Agreeded that it is a phenomenal sports tourer. I’d defiantly take my Himalayan in more remote places than this. Will or do dirt and fire roads? I don’t know yet, but I’ve seen people take this on some pretty gnarly single track. That is wild. Im liking the Hydraulic valves, never have to adjust…unlike my Himi haha.
David Ray you don’t have a clue!! This Ike will do waaaay more in the dirt and off-road than you think. I have ridden the NMBDR and the IBDR on a KTM 1090. Before I had my PanAm and there is nothing on those that this bike couldn’t do. The only advantage my KTM has on this bike is the 21 inch front wheel compared to the PanAms 19” in really rocky conditions and ledges the 21 inch helps out more!!
PLEASE H-D, go out of business and sell the name to someone who will build REAL Harleys.
I’m understand you’re frustration, but I’m not understanding your part about “REAL Harleys”. You mean like Heavyweight Cruisers, or better quality?
@@MCCJustMotos To me a REAL Harley is a bike that looks, feels, and sounds like a Harley. I spent a long time riding Japanese bikes (and one wonderful 1966 Triumph Bonneville that I wish I still had) before I could afford a Harley. It was 2005, and I bought a 1989 FXRS Low Rider. I still have that bike. I bought and sold 3 other Harleys (all used) and finally I bought a 2006 Sportster 1200, which I still have. H-D destroyed their big bikes with the smooth quiet M8 engine. I mean they actually went out of their way to ruin it. They went to extra trouble to put a counterbalancer in it specifically to remove the Harley feel. I test rode an M8 Street Glide. It felt and sounded like a Goldwing I used to have, which meant it had no feel, and the loudest sound it made was gear whine. And now they have dropped the Sportster, the last bike they had that still felt and sounded like a Harley. As far as quality, it's been as good with EVO Harleys as it was with Japanese bikes, at least for me. Of course I never tried to hot rod them. I ride just for the fun of riding. I don't care about speed and power. I don't care that my 1989 80ci bike only makes 58 hp. It gets me down the road just fine, and it feels and sounds like a MACHINE. It is a very visceral experience, very primitive, very mechanical, not over refined like all other modern bikes. H-D was both the first and the last manufacturer to make such bikes, and now they don't make them anymore either.
@@geraldscott4302 Totally gotcha! You meant something like this (mine)!

@@MCCJustMotos YES!! Beautiful Ironhead. Looks, feels, and sounds like a REAL Harley. I really wouldn't have a problem with H-D making some other types of bikes, as long as they still made REAL Harleys too. But they don't. We have lost an American icon.
