Oh yeah, I was an example of it when I was a kid as I was a real asshole at school when I was around 8 years old, even went as far as strangling another kid at school but at home I was completely different so anytime my parents were called about me starting a fight they would be a bit confused. Thankfully I grew out of that violent phase when I was 9.

Yes, so true. I've seen it with a few people I grew up with in school in school and in my 1st job in the dental field. A girl from school parents' were very religious and she wasn't allowed to wear pants until her junior year in high school, on multiple occasions the outfit she got on the bus with wasn't what she wore all day in school.
As far as my coworkers go, they were 17, belonging to the same Mormon Temple. They were good kids, but being so close to 18 that what they did was stretching their wings. They drank, smoked pot (before it was legal for medical use), & were definitely sexually active. Once they got past their party stage, they became incredibly reliable coworkers. They befriended me after they started working there, knowing that I had recently moved cross country. God, I miss those girls!!!

You have to balance faith in your child with reality, I’m not gonna say throw your child under the bus as soon as an adult accuses them of something cause adults make mistakes and lie too. BUT never put it above your child to also lie and make mistakes. Approach every situation with open eyes….

When parents are together, does it distract them from bonding with their kids? I’m just noticing a pattern and so far, single dads get the gold trophy for “best parent”. Single moms get silver. (You might not think it’s fair but we’ve earned some level of respect and I haven’t seen dads get the breaks I get.) Bronze is split between the loving parents and the separated parents, who don’t leverage the kids, but the parents that “stayed together for the kids” and the ones who separate but leverage kids, are running dangerously close to foster families (when it comes to actually caring about the children, as a parent) and we all know how foster families go these days. 😢 Why, when there’s more adults, do kids matter less?
