A gimbel belt with gimbel on rod would help save the groin and keep the rod from twisting as you crank. Why fight the rod too. Threshers are so fun to catch. Congrats on your first T's.

@@daleedmunds thanks! I've never caught a shark. Do you take anyone out for a fee or just your buddies? I was on Huntington pier this weekend when some guy landed 2 threshers, another guy caught 3 but broke off. I was crabbing. Only got a parasite infested spider crab. Let me know!

Here on the East Coast, I'm in NYC and we get them to 600 lbs. Right now is prime time and we have big chum bags of frozen chum from a 5lb bucket. We also grind up fresh chum on our boat with a meat grinder. We usually use 30 gallon pails to keep the fresh chum. Last week I caught a 250 lber. I'll be out in the morning searching for a 500 lber. We usually have 4 to 5 rods out and all of them at different depths with the deepest one being the furthest from the boat to try and keep it somewhere around the falling chum. Always fun until you get an angry one at the side of the boat and their 6 ft tails go wild and that's after an hour to two hour fight.

Yes these were all babies. One of them had size, but still not a giant lol. I wish we got a mako! Still trying for one. I heard they’re an insane fight!
