You're totally right that almost identical pieces of this showed up in other works - there's leitmotifs for characters/places across both albums, and Masstaden Nationalsang (roughly Masstaden's National Anthem) is almost a medley of some of the big moments from the first album, including parts of Dagger given a new context and tweaks to fit the story.
Discovered this channel, Judson, back in February/March when I was homeless - north, cold, spending every possible hour inside a library. Greatest measures ever. I'm back - job, apartment/home, and beyond (finally reached that state where anything can happen but I just want everyone to be happy with life) - you are both part of that journey
That’s really really awesome to hear! Hang in there and keep on doing the thing. Let us know how things progress but just keep your mind right and remember that it’s a better way of life NOW. Much love and thanks for kickin it with us! ~j
Day 2 suggesting new bands for the channel to explore (and the song I personally recommend): -Haken (Crystallised) -The Contortionist (Language I + Language II) -Pain of Salvation (Undertow) -Cynic (Integral Birth) -Leprous (The Price) -Periphery (Reptile) -Tesseract (Acceptance) -Between the Buried and Me ( Sun of Nothing) -Car Bomb (Lights Out) -The Ocean (Jurassic) -Vola (Head Mounted Sideways) -Vein,fm (Errorzone) -Thank You Scientist (Mr. Invisible) -Primus (Tommy the Cat) -Night Verses (Karma Wheel) -Karnivool (Themata) -Caligula's Horse (The World Breathes with Me) -Earthside (A Dream in Static) -Soen (Lascivious) -Voyager (Colours) -Veil of Maya (Aeris) -Uneven Structure (Buds) -Loathe (A Sad Cartoon) -The Human Abstract (Antebellum) -Dance Gavin Dance (Death of a Strawberry) -Tiny Moving Parts (Clouds Above My Head) -Motionless In White (Slaughterhouse) -Ice Nine Kills (The American Nightmare) -Igorrr (Cheval + Vegetable Soup) -Felix Martin (Clouddiver) -Woods of Ypres (Traveling Alone) -Deafheaven (You Without End) -Opeth (Black Rose Immortal) special request
Vildhjarta is my most favourite music band atm. I got a 7 string guitar because of them just so I can learn at least one of their songs... It probably will be unseen, but there is another Finnish music band I would like to share is: Indistinct album: Reign of Silence track: Cascade I think it would be a good introduction. Please give them some love too ❤ Thanks for the video!
I was surprised to come up empty with a search for August Burns Red on the channel. They even had an incredible piano cover commissioned of their song Boys of Fall. They are consistent and solid; Grammy nominated, and the sophistication in some of their pieces is delightful to listen to repeatedly to pick apart all the layers. Please consider going back in time to some of their masterpieces!
Judson mentions that he enjoys every second of the song because it always hits you with something new. To me, the underlying atmosphere of despair adds another essential ingredient of what Vildhjarta makes so great for me. Maybe react to "Den Helige Anden" by Vildhjarta next?
Is Judson trying to learn Måsstadens nationalsång? Because thats all basically references to this same first album. Little love letter for the fans. Just let the man listen to Vildjharta, i feel bad holding him back just so we can enjoy his reactions.❤
The Ocean (Collective) are another band that have released instrumental versions of their albums, these might be worth checking out at some time. I also prefer the orchestral version of the new Ihsahn album as well plus the Swedish Version of Opeth’s In Cauda Venenum and a number of albums that are not sung in English (my native and ashamedly only language) such as those from Kauan and Hamferd.
There is a instrumental version of their song "Don't Fail Me Now (Lady Luck) " and it's a banger. He will love it ! ( just search for "Don't Fail Me Now (Lady Luck) instrumental" )
So Judson raised several good points about the way Vildhjarta write their music, but there's one I really need to talk about; it's NOT random. At first glance it seems random, until you step beck and start seeing the bigger picture. It is a cyclical story told non-linearly in which all events can be understood to be happening simultaneously. And you don't need to go to the lyrics for that interpretation, it's in the music. Before the start of the song Toxin from Under Vatten, there is the twinkly melody based on the intro of the song Dagger. The intro of the song Dagger itself is used to kick off Nationalsang Under Vatten, and then in the middle of the song the melody from Toxin is played, associating the two in your mind. But it's only when you listen to Vagabond that you get the final, COMPLETE context. The melody in Toxin, based off the intro from Dagger, contextualized in Nationalsang Under Vatten, is then shown to have BEGUN in Vagabond. The story I tell myself when I listen to that moment is our protagonist was walking through the forest and came across a dead body, and in that moment everything became clear.
Meshuggah Soul Burn might be a good one to try. It was the easiest one for me to get into when I struggled with Meshuggah's vocals at first (I'm all in now) and it's still one of my favourites, it's so progressive. Also love I am Colossus, in a different, more doomy vibe
Hey guys. Please react/listen to "Prognan - Tri Nacjie" "Bloodbath - Eaten" "Borknagar - Up North" "Satyricon - Mother North" "Immortal - Withstand the fall of time" "Taake - Myr"
Check out Reflections :) Ghost, Coda, Deva! their last two EP's had the dude from this band help writing!! They had flipped from metalcore to straight up the heaviest deathcore/Thall sound imaginable during the pandemic, I'd highly recommend just from a sonic/engineering standpoint especially willow.
I would just like go add that if you are going to show more of the old stuff, show the forte versions. They have better production. It’s basically a remaster
Skeletonwitch t-shirt? Vildhjarta? A man after my own heart, here's some suggestions of more obscure stuff: Alkaloid - From a Hadron Machinist Linus Klausenitzer - Lunar Assailant Tryglav - The Evocation Nexorum - Elegy of Hate Panzerfaust - The Far Bank at the River Styx Naraka - Of Blood and Tears Torchia - There's a Witch Among Us Kvaen - Yee Naaldlooshii Demonical - Fallen Mountain Aephanemer - Le Radeau de la Méduse
Had the biggest grin on my face seeing this one come up
Same
Yeah, same 🌀🌀🌀👍👍👍

Keep doing Vildhjarta and all the buster bands, they are really pushing the whole scene forward

I am quite pleased to see you guys checking out my favorite band of all time again!
Much love
❤❤❤❤thall❤❤❤❤
Vildhjarta - All these feelings
One of the best songs ever made
love Judson’s piano intro!! A beautiful contemporary minimalist piece, reminds me of Ludovico Einaudi. Really lovely writing Judson
Richard introduced me to Einaudi last year so I take that as a high compliment! Thank you kindly
Ho nice! 🔥😎🤘
I am kind of ashamed that i never heard them before. Thank you so much for this new discovery.
Vildhjarta is my most favourite music band atm. I got a 7 string guitar because of them just so I can learn at least one of their songs...

Will you ever show Judson Car Bomb? Its maybe the next progression after vildy! Mad geniuses
Best piano intro ever. Record that shit
Every time you wear that shirt I’m going to say it, Judson NEEDS the Witch 🤘
Vildhjarta is Wildheart in swedish
I was surprised to come up empty with a search for August Burns Red on the channel. They even had an incredible piano cover commissioned of their song Boys of Fall. The first time i heard this song it blew my mind , and theyve been one of my faves since.
Stoked to see more Vildhjarta! Should also check out Susi by Atlas, it's thall with more clean singing
damn , didnt expect Judson to like this kinda music. But tbf this is the best thall ever , cant get better than this.
Judson mentions that he enjoys every second of the song because it always hits you with something new. To me, the underlying atmosphere of despair adds another essential ingredient of what Vildhjarta makes so great for me.
Maybe react to "Den Helige Anden" by Vildhjarta next?
Knocked Loose "Suffocate" Ft. Poppy
vildhjarta is my favorite band :^)
That piano intro kinda reminded me of a song called Letters by Lemolo. Good stuff, Judson!
Holy shit I've been waiting for this one
They released an instrumental version for all of their albums but the newest album is the only one on spotify.
Is Judson trying to learn Måsstadens nationalsång? Because thats all basically references to this same first album. Little love letter for the fans. Just let the man listen to Vildjharta, i feel bad holding him back just so we can enjoy his reactions.❤
They should really just do a whole album review, hell, do a back to back Masstaden + Under Vatten 3 hour live-stream, make it an event!
Judson needs a steady supply of indie movies so he can create soundtracks.
Dream job
Very amped for this one.
one of my fav songs by em.
Never clicked so fast on a video lol. Love these guys!
amazing reaction , btw it's it's pronounced VIL D J HEARTA , love ur channel

The Ocean is such an underrated band, the Phanerozoic albums are incredible
The forte version better imo for both their early albums. Remastered drums is the biggest part.
That opening Judson's original movie theme song reminded me of "Something in the Way" by Nirvana.
Check out the piano cover of that very song in our videos!
Måsstaden under vatten is such a journey record.
Primordial some day gentlemen please ?
The Coffin Ships, The Mouth of Judas, Where Greater Men Have Fallen, As Rome Burns... 🤘🤘🤘
There is a instrumental version of their song "Don't Fail Me Now (Lady Luck) " and it's a banger. He will love it ! ( just search for "Don't Fail Me Now (Lady Luck) instrumental" )

FINALLY
Extreme

"Borknagar - Up North"
"Satyricon - Mother North"
"Immortal - Withstand the fall of time"
"Taake - Myr"
I second this, great reactlist. Hope guys will also react to Deathspell Omega - Devouring Famine and Liturgy - Returner at some point
Vildhjarta - kristallfågel next!
Maybe do Ulcerate - Dissolved Orders
..or anything from their new album. Best extreme metal band right now. Bar none! 🤗
+1
Ulcerate is cool. Their drummer is fucking gnarly
Cool band, going to listen to me some more fo sho
If you do songs from this album you need to do the Forte version. Much more polished. The production is so good.
Day 14 of requesting Diablo Swing Orchestra.
I'm excited to hear Judson's take on Vildhjarta.
Push push!!!
Man, you gotta check out Avatar at some point, I'm quite certain that Judson will like them
I would just like go add that if you are going to show more of the old stuff, show the forte versions. They have better production. It’s basically a remaster
I think he should try "Awake" by Textures
reminds me....oh, some crypta please.
Need to do Dirty Hands by Extortionist
I do enjoy Vagabond by them but overall I prefer their other project Humanity's Last Breath more. Earthless both the song and video goes so hard.
Please react to helloween!!!
Richard you must have some Swedish blood in you. Really difficult vowel pronunciation you’re nailing
when it comes to vidhjarta, any song from massraden under vatten album is fantastic, but i think vagabond would take Judson through the journey
Skeletonwitch t-shirt? Vildhjarta? A man after my own heart, here's some suggestions of more obscure stuff:
Alkaloid - From a Hadron Machinist
Linus Klausenitzer - Lunar Assailant
Tryglav - The Evocation
Nexorum - Elegy of Hate
Panzerfaust - The Far Bank at the River Styx
Naraka - Of Blood and Tears
Torchia - There's a Witch Among Us
Kvaen - Yee Naaldlooshii
Demonical - Fallen Mountain
Aephanemer - Le Radeau de la Méduse
