One of the best parts of Slipknot's debut was watching them perform this on Conan O'Brien. It was absolute madness. 9 guys in jumpsuits and masks thrashing around like crazy people on a tiny stage for an audience that had absolutely no clue what was happening. Pure chaos.
Judson: just trying to play with my heart my soul Richard: don't do that anymore Me: 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Richard: this song is called spit it out Judson: 🤨🤨 ohkayyy Hahaha loving your conversations today. The song hasn't even started 😅
Slipknot, mudvayne and korn were also my gateway bands (dunno if i'm using the term correctly) to the beginnings of metal. Just that it happened for me when i was in may late 20s rather than when i was in middle school. Lol. Re the masks, I'm not into horror either, but they look ok to me. I mean, they don't particularly look scary (maybe coz i know there are real people under the masks). Hmmm, and i think any artist always faces the risk of being pigeonholed into whatever thing, with or without masks so damned if you do, damned if you don't. 🤷
That was a great reaction, please don't let the live version be postponed for too long, it is indeed a must-watch! Also any Joey's drum cam lives would be appreciated, he truly was a writing and driving force behind most of Slipknot's early stuff (along with Paul of course), and watching him absolutely destroying the kit could not only be a cathartic experience, but also finally help align their visual image with the music for Judson. I understand the dissonance the masks may be bringing to him now though, it was like that for me too at first. Then I saw Joey and it gave me a whole new perspective of how to perceive those masks within the context of the talent behind them. And his talent and energy were nothing but huge (backed by the purest heart). Anyway, thank you guys for bringing us joy with your channel, I've binge watched all your videos recently and it brought me a great sense of relief and quickly became a safe place in not so easy circumstances of life.
Fun fact: Earlier this month, Forbes ranked Slipknot as one of the 10 greatest metal bands of all time, coming in at number 7, behind only Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Pantera, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath and Metallica.
I'd love for him to hear their whole self titled album. Hopefully that'll happen one day or over time, if so I'll be here for all of it! :D 🤘 Great vid! Much love!
Spit it Out was the first heavy song that I heard back in 2004 when i was in 4th grade before that I listened to stuff like Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit and Korn and then in 6th grade I was fully into extreme metal like Children of Bodom, Arch Enemy, Morbid Angel and Fear Factory
I weirdly agree with Judson the mask can really alienate you at times lol, that can definitely be the allure of it! He's gotta see Joey Jordison rip tho.. Also, there is an amazing video that surfaced recently of an Unmasked soundcheck that is a really cool look at them all playing. Definitely consider checking it out ! ruclips.net/video/nPNUbfEmgGM/видео.html
I bought those first 3 Slipknot albums. The 3rd being my favorite. There's a lot more rapping in the first Slipknot album. Which I didn't hold against it.. But Slipknot did turn the Metal world on it's ear in 1999. Us Metal heads truly appreciate that. Good choice Richard and Judson. Still killing it.
@@Greatmeasures C'mon Richard! I know the last few years haven't been great for him but MM is having a bit of a renaissance period after getting sober so now would be a good time, I think!
"Slip affirmative" XD. I find "Prosthetics" as the most "atmospherical" song of that album, tons of non-instrumental sounds or whatever you wanna call them. I love to listen to you guys on the background while i work hehe. thanks.
I really hope Richard will introduce Judson to Mordred. They were the pioneers in mixing samples in their songs. in This Life is a classic album by them.
You should do some Mushroomhead "solitaire unraveling" and see what he thinks of them since they also wear masks, but might a bit more palatable while still heavy
Oh I wanted to add, I’m almost 99% sure he’s going to love the production of skinny it’s musically just so pretty, I don’t know how else to describe it and that is coming from someone who normally listens to hardcore or Hardtechno(the harder the better 🤣) or anything close to it. But I’m pretty sure that the first ons is right up his alley😋
I have zero idea if this is even close to the actual meaning, but I always experienced 'spit it out' as a visceral thing of spitting out something that's bad for you, like something poisonous or rotten or whatever, itself symbolic for getting negative emotions out of you, to rid yourself of them. Which is my general experience of Slipknot: to get negative shit out and rinsing yourself of it. And then I always felt the 'fuck me, I'm all out of enemies', being that you have nothing left to project your anger onto. Idk, that just fit the song to me lol.
I always took them as a gimmick band because of the masks until I saw them live, then it all made sense. Then when Iowa came out I was completely sold.
Like Richard, this song was the first "extreme" metal song i heard at about age 14 and thought "i need more of this" and i don't know if Richard is in the same boat as me, but about 5 years later i was in a phase of it being mainstream mtv pussy shit lol then another 5 years and i got over trying to be a try hard for try hard sake and couldn't deny my love for this album or slipknot in general. Those guys fucking nailed it all. and something about white boys trying to appropriate rap in late 90s metal, i still find slightly embarrassing, but slipknot did it in a way... Doesn't sound like rap, sounds like a guys frantic lunatic thoughts and even the turntables, it sounds like a mess of guitar riffs, mess of throat killing vocals and mess of 3 drummers mixed with the fractured scratches of a turntable... Basically, they really made this shit really work in a way none of their contemporaries ever could. Slipknot sound like slipknot, simple as that.
Hey guys. Please react/listen to "Prognan - Tri Nacjie" "Bloodbath - Eaten" "Borknagar - Up North" "Satyricon - Mother North" "Immortal - Withstand the fall of time" "Taake - Myr"
I always cringe when Richard talks 💩 and just takes a guess at a Judson question.. Saying Slipknot weren't at that level yet to play at Woodstock '99 was just a total guess!! Nothing more than BS!! They would have been there but they still had A few shows to perform at Ozzfest that year.. Just say you're not sure instead of talking crap!! 🤦♂️🇦🇺🤟

Τhe biggest misunderstanding is that Slipknot are considered as heavy metal.. They have distorted guitars in their music but they are NOT heavy metal.. Not only them but all these Nu - metal bands they are "and metal".. They have many rap influences with their vocals and noises they create, so they are not 100% metallic!

@tylerspunucious7420 why? Can you give me your greaaaat knowledge that I don't have... this is metal, it's fast, the guitars are heavy and distorded, the singer screams and there is some breakdowns.

They performed “wait and bleed” on Conan… not spit it out
@Themaskplague well I feel dumb now. Still, everything else I said stands.
@@ChrisHendrickson82 100% agree it was an awesome performance. I also love when they went back on a few years later and did Heretic Anthem

This song captures the late 90s early 00s nu-metal era perfectly. It was kind of "scary" back in the day, but now it just makes me laugh.

Judson, the piano intro reminded me a bit of the start of Locomotive Breath by Jethro Tull!
I liked it !
I have the same attachment to this album but the song that hooked me was “Sic”
Same man I grew up around a lot of death metal but slipknot and lamb of God really got me into heavier stuff now I like it all.
Amazing Testament's The New Order shirt 🤘
This is my workout song when I'm psyching myself up and about to go heavy.
im not really into the newer slipknot but the first two albums have a certain edge to them that i quite enjoy

That link is for Eloy when was 14. So good.

Richard - Judson, Shrek - Donkey… Know what I mean?
Can you do As I Lay in My Coffin by my favorite band Sinister Ghost please?
I'm curious if judson ever listened to the dirty three. Seems like he'd really dig their music
