- Alan Rickman visited us recently to talk about his new film A Little Chaos with Reel Pieces moderator Annette Insdorf. He reflected on his 10 years playing Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series, and spoke about why he isn't surprised Emma Watson is giving feminist speeches at the United Nations and what he misses most about Hogwarts.

imagine having a different person playing Snape, it would be horrendous. The thought of him passing away makes me cry every time 😢
well he died in the series too so.. i don't think we'll be seeing fake snape anytime soon
If he is revived for a prequel... I think only Benedict Cumberbatch has the potential to be the potions master.
Lately i've been thinking that Adam Driver would be an amazing Snape though

I was fortunate enough to attend this talk. He was an amazing actor, and by all accounts a wonderful person. He looked so healthy here, it was a bit of a shock to hear that he died today.
Jealous!!! I wish i could have met him.
All the stories that i heard of him how sweet he was really sounds like a great man!
And Severus Snape is my favorite character.
It was a sock to me too when i heard he passed away.
Alan will be missed by many.

@@melb7160 That may be true, and I'm not much of a fan for celebrities, but Alan Rickman, by all standards, was a very kind, humble special soul that anyone who knew or met him would attest to. RIP dear, sweet Alan ❤️
Oh man, that voice!!!! People listen songs and music and all I watch and hear is Alan Rickman's interviews and speech.
Nothing compares to this man. He's brilliant, way too intelligent and interesting, might I add choice of words. I have always been so amazed that he read all books like we did. The curious child inside still wondering and believing the Harry Potter world. He's so incredible. Sometimes I can't believe that Snape is his character he owns it so completely. And I am so in love with the both.

I just went through a 3 hr radiation cancer treatment and was able to watch these Rickman pieces during the long waits. I told the people attending me that Alan was my inspiration to not have fear and to remain cheerful and confident through the surgery and recovery. He handled it all so gracefully and l love and admire him so much. I had just lost my husband before all this and it was so comforting to watch his videos.
The fact that the question was about his experience filming the movies, and he spent the most time talking about how it was for him to watch Daniel, Emma and Rupert grow up inbetween the weeks he spent each year filming, was really heartwarming
he should seriously consider doing audiobooks...or just an entire cd just talking..anything to listen to that lovely voice of his..

No. He had a stroke two months later and that was when his pancreatic cancer was discovered. He didn't know at this time that he was sick.

When I was watching one of his last interviews, I couldn't help but cry. What a terrible loss for all of us. There will never be another like him. He was one of a kind.

I love that he answers that question to the audience member who asked it and keeps looking at the person throughout. His attention isn’t on the interviewer.
An admirable man he was..... Yeah, sometimes we tend to forget that he is one of the old ones who came from the Shakespearen school, who was more on theatre stage and directed masterpieces than hollywood films. He might have regretted sometimes that people would remember him most of his role in harry potter, but I think he was the centre of all characters. He had to be Snape, without him, it wouldn't have been so real,so fascinating. He is..... Was..... an amazing actor. Rest in peace.
He was remembered as probably the best written character in the entire series. It’s not all that bad.
I will always remember Col Brandon...going out in the storm to fetch Marianne home, wanting nothing more from her than the privilege to love her..and the happy look on his face when he escorted her out of the church ❤

We loved him.My daughter first saw him when the RSC. First visited Newcastle..she was about 10 at the time and has followed him and the RSC for the last 38years.
A voice and ability never to be forgotten..We will miss him.
I am so grateful to Alan for his devotion to all us fans, through his ingenious portrayal of one of the most interesting characters in movie history. And I am grateful to J.K. Rowling, for making Snape in the end turn out to be good after all, so that our enjoyment of the Harry Potter Series is not diminished! When I purchased the box set and watched the movies for the first time last week, I was devastated when Snape kills Dumbledore in The Half Blood Prince. It was almost midnight and I seriously considered putting on a pot of coffee so I could stay up all night and finish the last two films. Instead I waited until the next day because I had to work. When I realized that Snape had only done what he had to, what Dumbledore himself had asked him to do, relief washed over me like a wonderful ocean of light, and I was SO GLAD! It must have been hard for fans who had to wait a year or two from reading/seeing the stories, but what the author did was absolutely BRILLIANT! Some of the best storytelling of all time with Snape. If I had watched these sooner, I definitely would have tried to go see Alan Rickman!
Im so sad he died :( my favorite, but he grew fast in Harry Potter. I didnt had him as favorite actor before, Anthony Hopkins was. Alan grew just extremely to my all time favorite actor in recent 13 years. He does it sooo well.
So strange that you say that about Anthony Hopkins. I was an ardent fan of him between 1994 and 2000 I met him in 1994 and 1996 and now it is Alan Rickman. So sad that he passed away way too early. And by way of all the resources I have caught up quite a bit already. But there won't ever be the chance to meet this lovely man. Yet I am happy to have found him.

Alan Rickman was diagnosed with terminal cancer in Aug 2015. Which means when he gave this interview he already knew but he didn't show anything here. What a courageous man.
This interview was in June 2015. He did not know. They only found out after he suffered a slight stroke in august 2015.

Ipt's meant to be a reference. Sirius Black died in the fifth book, therefore Dead Sirius.

Im listening to an audiobook of his synthesized voice reading his own diaries, its very moving that he's reading his own words posthumously through AI. And, the diaries are fabulous.

I am utterly besotted this man. Such a captivating actor and an humbly emotive speaker in real life. I have viewed quite a lot of his on screen performances, listened to him narrate and watched the couple of films he directed. I am never disappointed. I wish I could find something terrible he did to help me to stop idolising him and mourning the death of someone I never knew personally but alas, I am yet to discover anything to to dislike about him.
I would’ve love to see him completely and utterly smashed. Lol

Truthfully I miss the characters as well. I ended up here by finding out I could not get the Stephen Fry audiobooks here in the US on Audible. Only the first one and then the others would have to be Jim Dale.
So I was watching a video on how Jim Dale came up with the voices. And ended up here.
Crazy that he was only on set for nearly two months a year compared to Daniel, Emma and Rupert who were there basically all year. His presence was so demanding it felt like he was there more. I guess for him and the other adults, it was like a family reunion every year. lol
