    You're videos are great and very informative. I understand custom fittings are expensive especially when you're dealing with after market shafts, but isn't a fitting more geared towards what the right lie angle is, what the right lofts are, what the right length of the shafts are, what are the right size and texture grips are etc? I do understand that shafts do play a roll in launch and spin with the different torques, kick points, softer or firmer tips etc. Don't club manufacturers like Callaway, Cobra, Taylor Made etc research which stock shafts are best for their club heads? Shouldn't I be able to take the numbers of my measurements and apply them to any set of clubs bought direct from a manufacturer? Oh and btw, thank you for your Service! I'm a Vet too and I love those parking spots at Lowes too!

    • @SwingFit
      @SwingFit  2 года назад

      Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts and questions. The MFG will do a little evaluating to compare which shafts work well with each head and will offer what they refer to as stock options. But when they make these recommendations they are only targeting a specific segment of the golfing population which from my experience caters to only about 20% of the golfing population. The explanation behind this is every golfer will swing the club differently, and the items you referenced are in did identified during the session but I would say the correct loft, lie, length and SW of a golf club is usually the last items we are capturing as we do need to determine which head and shaft we need to go into first that’s going to allow you to change the shot outcome. Then the other things we talked about kind of become the salt and pepper to further optimize the build, call it fine tuning to make the result even better.

    What do you think of the DTC. company club maker. Tokomo is one that interest me a lot. But I don't think club fitter would have the option of testing these clubs. There seem to be more and more of these DTC company's out there. I guess that is the down fall that you cant test them first.

    These are great videos! Fitting is not cheap but many fitters will give you a "rebate" if your clubs are purchased from them. I go to a local fitter in Ontario Canada. The cost is $300 and $150 off when I bought my irons. I'm a high handicapper. I tried many game improvement clubs and ended with Srixon ZX5. I hit them last through all the other clubs, they were it. I could feel the difference. I was there for about 2 hours, there is a cost to support the fitting, rent, hydro, insurance etc. My irons had special order shafts ( not original shafts, OE). Many times I thought I could luckily pick the right clubs/shafts, never did. I would say to people, you can't afford to not be fitted. You may not have the money to buy what they suggest but you know what you should have, Also, make sure you are fit for your putter, you swing it EVERY hole, I have no Hole in Ones. Make sure your fitter has a wide range of brands. You don't want to go to Brand X fitter.

      So true, and all are really good talking points and points that I would visit with my customer. But as we all know fitters aren’t created equal, but when equipped with the right information you should be able to hold your fitters feet to the fire so to speak…thanks for sharing…

      So that’s a really good combination. 70-80 full swings is generally the cut off, and during the session we will try on average maybe 3-4 heads tops, and 7 to 8 shafts to find the best fit. So in 90minutes we typically don’t have any problem with finding the best combo, unless there is something going on with the technique

      @@SwingFit Sounds like it to me that @D Sexton may be referring to Club Champion?!?! I went to CC and although the fitting was really good I felt like they were trying to fit me in some pretty high priced shafts. I do understand that the build price is baked into the price and they will tell you that, but there has to be decent priced after market shafts out there that won't break the bank? Most of us are not professional golfers, and to see prices that are much much higher than stock it's a shock. I do really appreciate a great fitter like yourself John, and if you're only 25% to 30% higher than retail than I could live with that. You have to make some money for your labor in building the clubs to spec. That to me is very reasonable. It's the places like Club Champion that are 50% or more higher than stock is what is going to turn people off to custom club fittings.

    So, I just watched several of your videos and the last was your 2021 Q&A video. First, all serious golfers, regardless of skill, know proper fitting equipment makes the likelihood of better golf more attainable. I am your high handicap golfer. I play the PXG 0811 X Proto Gen 4 Driver, Ping G700 irons, and mixed Fairway woods. (Scotty C Putter). All very respectable high quality equipment. I play on two leagues in season and a three night per week sim league all winter. The guys I golf with often want to hit my clubs (even if they have the same brand in their bag). Why? Short answer, ALL my clubs are purchased based on design spec and ALWAY "optimized" by the fitter I use. I say optimized because let's face it, off the shelf clubs are fine, but won't work for most people. That is to say manufacturers seek to satisfy the masses. I have my own unique issues. Optimization includes setting up my clubs to meet my personal swing. I, like you, think a shaft selection is as important if not more than a head. Now, all "fitters" are not created equally. Selecting a fitter is the first big decision a golfer needs to make. My fitter is driven to 'Optimize" not sell me something other than the fitting. I have bought many things from my fitter like shafts, accessories, and whole club set-ups. What I like about mine is what I see on trackman during fitting carries very closely to what I see on the course. As for your "hater" a simple statement "CHANGE CHANNELS". If they are un satisfied with your videos, the internet is littered with alternatives. For me, I think I will stick with you. Stunning, your comments are reflected often by my own fitter..
    THANK YOU AND KEEP THE VIDEOS COMING.

    Fitting is a start point but practice and lessons are the on going part that weekend hacks need to lower there index. Otherwise bad habits will stay and you just wasted money on fitted irons. I got a full bag fitting. It was interesting. The one important thing that they fixed was my lie angles . which was more important then I thought.

    • @SwingFit
      @SwingFit  2 года назад

      Would not argue with you there, I would even go as far to say that fitting is a great starting point, as it not only can help you make sure the clubs are matching the delivery, but it can also help the practice and the technique become a little easier to recreate a consistent and repeatable swing

    Great video. I feel if you cannot afford custom fitting you should start by going to a driving range and using foot powder spray to spot your face impact. If your lie is ok or may need adjustment and you can center your strikes then next step is to look at ball flight, this and distance spacing. This can lead to shaft ideas to find the right weight flex etc... I did this myself and I have not looked back having spent money and time on other fittings. It's whatever works for you

    • @SwingFit
      @SwingFit  2 года назад

      So true, the key take away from this statement is you didn’t just guess, you took the time to assess and evaluate and then made a decision be it one way or the other to fix/resolve the issue you identified. I believe too many golfers end up trying this and trying that but never really knowing why they are trying this or that. Thanks for sharing.

      My best source of truth would be asking the pros at your local courses. Just call them up and ask them who is the best fitting establishment in our area? After about 5-6 calls someone would likely bubble up to the top. Club champion does a very effective job but their prices are a little high. Golftec is reasonable but sometimes lacks the experiences and depth you need. Now Truspec if you can find one near you would be my top pick

    Hey John ... another great video! I would like to add a couple comments from the perspective of one of your clients. I came out last fall and let you and your team work your magic on a new set, full set, of clubs. I don't know if my biorhythms were off, or the moon was in the wrong phase, but I did not bring my best swing to your bay for my fitting. That being said, you and your staff were extremely patient and professional and I now have a set that I am hitting center of the face far more regularly, and playing from the fairway a lot more. Thank you all again for that. I want to mention a couple things that surprised me in the fitting process, (first timer). At one point, you changed out the shaft for the iron I was hitting. My same old swing, the same club head, just a different shaft and I immediately saw 6 mph increase in club head speed. I am still amazed at that and have no idea how anyone could hope to achieve that without the benefit of a professional fitter. I also don't know if that kind of thing is common or just an oddity with me.
    The second surprise for me was the putter fitting. To be honest, I did not have very high hopes in this area, but again, you surprised me. You may remember that the putter I had been using had a swing weight just short of a small block chevy and I have never been a good putter... perhaps equipment matters? Well, I love my new putter. I am WAY more consistent with it in terms of line and distance control, and getting more confidence with it everyday. Words I have never said about any putter in my life.
    If you were to add a 6th point to your list of 5, I would suggest that we, the customers, do away, as much as we possibly can, with preconceived notions regarding club brands/models, shafts and the like and give the fitter as much freedom as possible to find the best combination. Maybe this is not so important for better golfers, but it worked for me. Keep up the good work John.

    My first club fitting was just a few months after picking up the game and it was all done outdoors. It was a complete bag fitting and there’s no doubt those clubs helped me go from shooting low 90s to single digit inside a year of playing the game. I played those clubs for 4 years and when I went in for new clubs everyone was doing indoor fittings only… I thought it wouldn’t matter that much but for me, it was a horrible experience. I couldn’t swing MY swing hitting into a screen and was hitting shots that didn’t match my game at all. Thankfully I realized this and walked out without buying new clubs. (I ended up just taking the measurements this club fitter did on my existing set and ordered new custom clubs online matching those specs and it worked out fine). I have tried indoor fitting multiple times over the years but am always disappointed with the results and just wind up doing the same thing of ordering new clubs online with specs I know will work for me.
    I FINALLY got an outdoor fitting again when Callaway came to my club a few weeks ago and man, what a difference! I have all new hybrids, wedges and irons that truly fit my swing now (I just turned 50 so my swing has changed a lot since my first fitting 23 years ago) and couldn’t be happier.
    I say all of that to say this, in my opinion, indoor fittings are ruining the fitting industry. I can’t tell you how many ppl I’ve spoken with over the years that have got indoor fitted and had serious regrets with the resulting set they bought. Does it work for some? Ya maybe . But psychologically, physiologically, we humans have evolved to adapt dynamically to our visual field and looking at and hitting into a 2D screen simulation of a driving range is not even close to same experience as hitting out into a real driving range. Not even close. And don’t even get me started about hitting off mats vs real turf!
    The only reason indoor fitting is even a thing is because it’s easier to systematize and make money off of it. You can open an indoor fitting center anywhere (most of them are in strip malls) and get a lot more ppl through fittings than having to do it in a driving range (turf maintenance, ball pickup, and a number of other logistical overhead too). I’d love to see us have more fitters in the US like they have in Europe (or US based club manufacturers fitting centers) where pros have their garages/bays on the driving range with all the fitting gear/equipment inside but your hitting out into a real driving range. Wouldn’t that be awesome!!
    Sorry for the book… it’s just been bugging the crap out of me seeing all these fitters touting the benefits of fitting but using these ridiculous setups thinking and/or conveying it’s the same as a real driving range fitting experience - IT IS NOT!

    • @SwingFit
      @SwingFit  2 года назад

      So your points are very valid and speaking candidly I do much better outside with the driver then I do in doors. And 100% perception and tight confined spaces will either influence your delivery be it consciously or subconsciously, this is why in our new fitting center we are building we are making the bays wider and deeper to help with this. Thank you for taking the time to share.
