I saw Mitch Ryder in Lansing Mi back in 1986 at a local bar Bootlegger's I was 16 YEARS OLD. My mom took me to the show my sister was his next door neighbor back in the 80's in Detroit . We got in free and got to watch the show. I got to meet him back stage he and the band were playing poker before the show. They kicked us out to get in the mood before the show if you know what I mean. The one thing that impressed me was the drummer spot on and a bad ass. I recall he had on a Saginaw Michigan Police Dept hat for the show.,
We have 2024 now and in a few weeks I am gonna see him again in the Blues Garage Isernhagen near Hannover where he has been performing every year for over 20 years now. Every year I go there and enjoy his show.
Was so fortunate to see Mitch in Naples Florida in the early 90s . Growing up in Detroit His music always made me feel good. He Played more 3 hours that night and we were all up dancing. I've see 100s of Concerts and that is still one of my favorites!!
I saw Mitch Ryder back in the early '80s with rare earth at the ballroom on New Year's Eve. And they completely killed it. Tore my head off. Rare Earth were incredible too. The dude with the afro that plays lead guitar with rare Earth was shredding his ass off on that Wawa pedal all night long. One of the best concerts I ever saw in my life. Mitch was killing it. 🙋
Love this entire album and Mitch is a legend. Saw a version of Detroit along with MC5 and Bob Seeger in Boston in the early 70's. Just great. Those Dan Armstrong guitars must weigh a ton.
dang cinderella that was quick service... and dedicated to me that is sweet ... well its not Lou Reed Dick Wagner Steve Hunter and Prakash John but these boys get the job done...i will come back and listen to it for sure...thank you for playing my request and great to have this one back on the tube again!
Had the pleasure of hanging with Mitch (I know, not his real name) one night at Checkers in Sterling Heights, Michigan. He was foul-mouthed and a blast to party with. If you did 250 shows a year on the road, well you'd act like Mitch too! Detroit = Rock 'N Roll!!!
I was part of 60s and 70s bar scene rock and I got fuckedx up on drugs and still managed to pass high school and be in a damn bar band.....stay off of drugs and you wont sound like this tyou wuil sound like Pink or rapshit..stay focused !
This is possibly the best line-up of Mitch's groups since the band Detroit. There are no weak links here! Mark Schein and Mark Gudgeon on bass with Wilson Owens on drums were solid as a rock when I saw them at the Agora. Schein played a gold-top Les Paul that night,
Detroit Michigan rock and roll. Originates in no other place, just like Chicago blues, there's nothing other than midwest manufacturing kids coming of age. Sadly, those days are gone.
You're absolutely right, those days are gone unfortunately. Now we have sissy boys who are all about image. Rock and roll died in 1989 and music has gone to shit ever since then.
Yeah….I started playing guitar in 1964. Even though I’m a stone cold New Yorker, Detroit had a more robust rock scene. I think we only had three major bands to come out of New York….The Rascals, Vanilla Fudge and the Vagrants which kinda morphed into Mountain.
Such great memories. Remember going to the Village in downtown Detroit in the early 60's. Mitch was Billy Lee then, singing soul and R&B. He later formed Billy Lee & the Rivieras, which became Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels.
In the early sixties, we used to go to the Village in downtown Detroit to see Mitch, who was Billy Lee then. He'd sing r&b songs with the black artists there. Then he formed Billy Lee & the Rivieras, which became Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels.
Love Mitch and this is pretty amazing. But, couldn’t help thinking that if you ever wanted to hear Leslie West and Mountain cover the Velvet Underground this is about as close as you’re gonna get.
Mitch always uses Side Men , this band L 2 R / Rich Shine (G) Billy Cierens (K) Wilson Owens (D) Mark Geujeon (B) Joe Guetz (G) longest lineup without change, most Soulful Combo, every player a True R & B Master. I auditioned Drummers in 72, had to pass on Wilson, by far the Best at 17 but couldn't get in Clubs, fast forward 5 years, he's playing with Mitch, Sweet..! We're still friends, both live in NC... Married his Niece... He plays in a great Church Band... day Funky Y'all... 4 A Chuch Band.
Mitch looks plastered, but his vocals are still pretty good! Only saw him play once, @ the Arena in Richmond, VA in 1971, in support of his DETROIT album. He & the band were great that night. Went right out and bought the album (which I still have)!
You might think Mitch was drunk or high here, just like you might have thought Joe Cocker was epileptic if you saw him at Woodstock. You'd have been wrong both times. In both cases it's an idiosyncrasy, compounded by working way too hard.
+Motor City Man My vision isn't all that great these days. But I'm not so blind that I jump to conclusions. Lots of people sing with their eyes closed, for lots of different reasons. There's only one way to know why they do it: ask them.
+Panglos He was drunk. At that time they used to have interviews with the musicians during the stage was prepared for the other bands. So Alan Bangs had an interview with him before the performance. That interview was a little bit special. Mitch Ryder later said in an interview that he had been drunk and wanted to excuse for his bad behaviour. But who cares. I did not know him before and that show made me a big fan of his.
had that concert for years on audio tape, must be around here somewhere. i was very impressed at the time. not any more, unfortunately. he's so drunk up there, harassing the sound people, insulting the audience, and he has no voice any more. sad.
And Janie said when she was about 20 years old - "What the FU@K is this Mitch Ryder shit ? !! - playing Lou's 'Rock and Roll' to the tune of 'Mississippi Queen' - smh "
@@robertspicer3716 I'm not a troll. I'm giving you an honest assessment. Not everyone loves everything put in front of them. Let me also say, Mitch Ryder went to my same high school (before he called himself Mitch Ryder), so I should, at least, somewhat like this, and I've been in bands for years. But, I'm sorry, I just think it's not all that good.
The sole and singular most overlooked album in Rock and roll history, simply brilliant. Should have been multi platinum.

Totally agree!
Agreed 100%
Yes!
Sounds like Mountain

The Big radio Station During The 1960's around Detroit was CKLW AM The Big 8 on The AM dial. I lived there 18 Yr's.
Grew up there too, and remember CKLW's jingle. "CKLW, THE MOTOR CITY"!!! Flashbacks?!!

Mitch was hammered. Big time. All the time. Read his book.

Sein rockpalast konzert war sein beste konzert..🎸die Band war super.
One of the greatest rock singers ever bar none!

Oh yeah these guys MC5, Amboy Dukes, Frigid Pink, Bob Seger, Grand Funk all kick ass Detroit rock bands

Mitch was one of the acts that played the Autorama car shows. Seger, Nugent and others. It was all right.
My favorite Mitch Ryder band. Saw them at Second Chance.
Wow! Cool memory! Rockin' Robert Seger got his start in that bar also! Peace!
THIS IS ROCK N ROLL!!!! TURN IT UP TO 11!!!
Mitch is blasted out of his mind, and his voice is just about gone here.
Saw them do this song in '73 at the Waverly Ball Room in Beloit Wi. This outing looks pretty sad.
@@SugarRiverBullitt this is in a different country

That's some fine Rock And Roll. 🖤👽
Thee intensity of the show is worth waiting for , not seen it at a lot of concerts .real rock power drives by these guys!
Wow. Just a f*cking ripping powerful rock song. So sad that Mitch couldn't make it work live. He deserved a LOT more. #detroitAF
Say what you want but Lou Reed said Mitch s version was how this song was meant to sound
The "godfather" of "blue eyed soul" and the most down to earth superstar I ever met.
Mitch ryder is one of he best rock vocalist of all times, Him and Mick
+Ivan Quin Roger Daltrey, hands down.
Bob Seger.

he is the first and primemost rocker, legend from Detroit
Mitch did several concerts in his hometown Warren Michigan. Warren is my hometown also. Don't see much anymore.
thanks sooooooooo much! this is so great!
Pure R&R !
Good contrived act for cameras..actually nice song, for me! Always loved the act since 1965 or about... !
it was not just all right, Mitch and the band were GRRRREAT!
Really miss the B3 on this, good R&R memories
Kickin'asstakin'names
You guys did a fantastic cover of this late Lou Reed song called Rock 'n' Roll.
The definitive version
Nice! 🎉
I like Mitch Ryders version better then Lou Reed's even though he was the original Mitch Ryder mastered it
The orginal Velvet Underground version is pretty good too.
@@phillipanderson7398 That's the one i'm talking about Lou Reed was in the Velvet Underground

Thx for sharing man :)
I loved this band - saw them in 79 and 80, I think. They also killed it on "Naked But Not Dead" and "How I Spent My Vacation.'
Cinderella Sunshine
Those clear guitars like Keith's are cool.
It's all right 👍😮😮😮

.
A fine, fine cover.
Not the Mitch I thought I knew.
Lou Reed liked Mitch's version of this,
Cover over cover, Detroit, Ian Hunter and The Velvet Underground. Anyway an enormous performation from Mitch.
if its alright then why'd he break it at the end?
i'd have had that.
Just thought the same.
The Band is Freaking awesome - but I think Mitch is jonesen for another cigarette.
Hey Mitch, what did that tambourine do to you? Lol!
Detroit. Enough said!🤠🇺🇸🇬🇧🌆🥩
probably he didn't remember this concert at that time at all(him being drunk).mitch ryder rock n' soul singer michiganiac.
Great music, that drummer is kicking butt, but Mitch's voice is totally shot...
Mitch looks pretty buzzed!
epic
Detroit boogie rock. Nothing better.
Needs more cowbell
I think He's a little buzzed here ?
It's OK..... definitely prefer Lou.

Not a good version except for the band, Mitch is drunk and terrible.
WTF? Ryder looks and sounds like he had a stroke. Wasted? Fucking awful.
Velvet underground original is way better than this
I like the Detroit version a lot :-) The groove is good on this one, even if Mitch is blasted....
Not according to Lou Reed
ugh, terrible.
