I used a chain-on stand in the 90s. I wrapped the chain with Duct Tape and that helped eliminate noise while still being pliable enough to connect to the hook.
@@RelentlessSportsman It was my mobile setup for public land hunting. On a side note, I too live in central WI and used to hunt north of Hwy 64 (Hayward area) while a teenager in the 90s. Those were some great years of hunting.
I got a chance to scout a national forest thanks to a light tracking snow that showed up a couple of days ago. I used a hunting app satellite photos, then headed out to check out a dozen spots. I was stunned to find the difference in satellite photos and actually used my cell cam maps which gave amazing detail. I could actually see deer trails through a swamp that got my attention. I found 5 deer tracks of varying freshness on the edge of the swamp that all headed into the swamp. This next week I'm heading deeper into the swamp. I've hunted big timber for decades with limited success because of lack of knowledge about late season hunting. I laugh about it now. I'm jazzed about hunting this new spot. Should be interesting. Good luck. Hunt safe. Respect the game. Honor the tradition.
For hunters who thought about hunting the big woods but nervous especially hunting alone. What are some thoughts and advice that you can share when it comes to hunting where there are wild predators such as bears, wolves, and mountain lion? What should I be cautious about, and effective ways on how would I deal with them if I have close encounters with them?
I don't want to tell anyone what to do in this situation - not my area of expertise. I will say that I would only go places you feel comfortable and only use protection as you feel comfortable. Bear spray, side arm, knife, etc. During rifle season I wouldn't worry too much but I can understand why bow hunting is a different story. Did you hear about the bow hunter from Buffalo count, WI? The one who I believe shot a mountain lion for self defense. Crazy stuff happens.
Predators are often times more afraid of you than you are of them. Unless they are starving. You most likely will never encounter one. I’ve hunted the same area for 30 years with a known wolf pack and I’ve never seen one in the wild. Only on game cams.
@@RelentlessSportsman Ok. I may tend to think of worse case scenarios like being attack by giant black bear, or a pack of wolves who pattern you in the big woods and what to know what you should know what to do or understand the animals a bit more to stay safe
I am glad you asked this question as I am curious what other bow hunters do as well. I hunt the UP alone and have had wolves around me and also came up to one as I rounded a corner in dark. It backed away but my adrenaline rush was intense after I settled in stand. My buddy did have a bear pursue him so I’m thinking bear spray. Don’t really want a hand gun etc.
lol none… I’ve never hunted or scouted in that terrain. Wish I had some helpful information. If I were to scout that habitat, I would start around creeks or rivers and go from there. That’s just my uninformed mindset with that type of habitat.
I love your videos like this, glad to see your doing a series! Can’t wait for the next part!
Wow- I am so looking forward to this. I very much appreciate and enjoy your content. Thanks for what you share with us

I've heard of people doing that with the duct tape. Did you use the stand in one location or move it around throughout the season?

You're welcome.
I appreciate the kind words. I hope scouting has gone well for you.
Informative show. ❤
Appreciate the support!
I hunt north of 64. And yes every year the sign can be different. Scout, scout and scout!
Yes, exactly. Especially for historical sign.

Carry bear spray.
