    If you really wanted to grab some viewer interaction, you could put up a poll for various options
    and let the viewers decide on some frankenstein of a guitar to build next.
    The options could be really vanilla, or all the options could be equally out there for something truly unique.

    • @FloridaManRacer

      Glad to see Crimson gave this a like. I hope they use this idea. I have funky guitar building thoughts that must be expressed lol.

    • @A1BASE
      @A1BASE 6 лет назад +5

      This idea has been raised before and my answer is always the same - it's a nice idea IN THEORY, but the problem is (in the dozen or so times I've seen it tried) that you tube commenters always take it to extremes in order for it to fail, because watching failure is more fun than watching success... If you gave them the option of a Les Paul build with a carbon fibre top, or an Explorer made entirely out of nuclear bees, the bees would win , every time. And then they'd say 'make it out of nuclear bees ON FIRE!!!!111eleventy!', just because they like seeing a train-wreck.
      Sometimes crowdsourcing isn't a great idea.
      If you desperately want a poll of ideas, I'd make it a patreon-only thing - people who are invested in what you do, either that or you decide on the options and have the executive right of veto.

    • @FloridaManRacer
      @FloridaManRacer 6 лет назад +4

      Well I agree with this. It should be up to the builder to guide the general direction of the build though. I'd set it up like this:
      Body- 4 choices. Strat,tele,SG, Les paul (for example)
      Neck- Maple,Rosewood,Ebony
      Pick ups- Dual Hum, HSS, SSS,
      Finish- Oil, paint, stain
      etc.
      Let them choose the basic direction and let the builder choose the detail. That will keep it more of a cohesive idea between the builder and the audience without turning it into a dumpster fire...

    • @BeanstalkBabe
      @BeanstalkBabe 6 лет назад +2

      I think just having the viewers as influencers, and our boy as the decision maker would be a cool way to go about ensuring quality product.

    • @ConstrutorMusical
      @ConstrutorMusical 6 лет назад +1

      There is so mutch potential for failure on this idea.... it will be more strange than a frankenstein.... frankenstein at least have a creator... not multiple creators.... as a viewer I would love to choose between various options in a interactive build... but personally I think the result will not be as pleasing as this build we just watched....

    Blowing on a solder joint might introduce moisture, but I think (speaking as an electronics engineer for 39 years) that it's more likely that blowing causes the joint to cool too fast and unevenly which causes crystalisation in the solder and a "cold" joint, which is more likely to fail prematurely. In any case, most small joints will set before you get a chance to blow on them and the issue only arises where there's big chunk of metal involved that needs (and then holds) a lot of heat. Provided you can stop the joint from moving while the solder sets, then a few seconds of patience is better than blowing. Blowing on burnt fingers is, however, entirely acceptable.

    • @CrimsonCustomGuitars
      @CrimsonCustomGuitars  6 лет назад +7

      I've always thought there was a certain amount of bull involved in the moisture argument.. Yours is the best explanation I've ever heard for a phenomenon that I knew was real.. thank you! B

    • @76Chev4x4
      @76Chev4x4 5 лет назад +2

      @@CrimsonCustomGuitars the certain amount of bull comes in here: The solder joint cools from the outside inward... the surface solidifies first as it has both the greatest surface area and the greatest exposure to ambient temperature. Moisture cannot penetrate the solid surface layer as it has already solidified almost immediately. The question then is "Why do you have to hold it still, then?" Cools from the outside in... the core is still soft for a couple seconds... Ian is absolutely correct and this is the same reason one does not quench a weld with water... it causes a crystallization matrix to form and results in a joint prone to failure.

    • @3dsman
      @3dsman 5 лет назад

      @@76Chev4x4 That said, the crystallization might impact mechanical integrity say... for a weld. But a soldered joint shouldn't be subjected to any mechanical forces.. it's purely for electrical conductivity and the only mechanical force it needs to provide is to hold some very minute wires in position. I see no harm in blowing on the solder joint. From an academic standpoint, yes.. don't blow on it if you have the wire held in a clamp and aren't worried about burnt fingers, but otherwise it's not likely to cause an issue... blow on it and save your fingers if need be.

    • @christopherjunkins
      @christopherjunkins 5 лет назад

      OMG, I finish putting up an on-point correction, and of course, it was already done months ago. That's what no coffee late in the night/early in the morning will do to a guy heh. You are quite correct here.

    • @peterneale5680
      @peterneale5680 5 лет назад +1

      Also speaking as an electronics engineer of many years, there is nothing wrong with blowing on a solder joint.. Usually. You can tell if blowing has caused a problem as the joint will look rough and dull rather than smooth and shiny. The most important thing is to keep everything clean and make sure you use enough heat. Don't use so much that you damage the component or melt the insulation on the wire but use enough. Even better though is to wrap the wire through the eyelet in the terminal tightly so you have a good mechanical joint first then solder so you don't have to blow.

    Ben,
    This series of custom building has been truly wonderful. Your discussion of the build has been more of a master class, than a tutorial. To anyone who has worked in wood, specifically wooden instruments, your workshop is straight up 'porn'. The extensive collection of tools should make any level of woodworker covetous, but it's the knowledge, skill, and mastery of those tools that so impresses.
    (I have been handmaking Appalachian dulcimers, banjos, guitars, and fiddles since 1972, I truly am in awe your talents.)
    I have throughly enjoyed each and every episode of this build, and see Crimson as a great source. Can you ever have enough luthier tools?
    Again, "Good on ya, lad!", and Thank You for sharing your creativity.

    Lovely to see you build guitars , please do more and keep inspiring home luthiers like me... Please make a fully perfect symmetrical guitar ( tulip shape maybe ? ) so it can both be played by a left handed person or a right handed person ( maybe just with a replacement of a nut ) The volume and tone pot(s) can be placed below the bridge again being symmetrical.... It will be a huge improvement for the leftie guitar players , just taking a guitar replacing the nut and there is a left handed guitar

    The first guitar rewiring I ever did was... interesting. The switch on my Epi LP had given out, and I decided I was going to swap out the pickups as well, because, well, I decided to 'get my money's worth" out of the £10 soldering iron I bought out of Maplins. So I got new pots, some random pickups(I have no idea what they are anymore, but they're OK. Different in the way I wanted from the stock, anyway), wired the basic harness outside the cavity(I planned that far ahead), then, like a fucking muppet, soldered the pickups to the 'wrong' pots, so control layout was upside down.
    And since it had been boring, I left it as is, and then ended up confused as hell 10 years later when I bought a Gibson and it was the right way around. Stupid correctly wired guitars... grrr.

After watching this, it seems like buying a kit is the way to go, because you can set up the guitar properly as you build and you can put whatever electronics you want. Thanks for doing this build. Your attention to detail is both admirable and impressive.

    I have been a fan of Ben and Crimson guitars for about a year. I've watched this entire build. Ben is not only a meticulous (if somewhat unconventional) craftsman, but also a most interesting and endearing personality. My guitar skills are still in the beginning stages, but if ever I aspire to have another guitar, it surely will be a Crimson. Great job, Ben!

    Dear Ben, this has been a true adventure! What I find truly amazing is how you come up with these ridiculous ideas and then actually find a way to make them work! The fretboard inlay thing, for example... I thought for sure it'd look terrible, only to be proven wrong almost instantly. Can't wait for the 15-minute summary video so I can get my mum to watch this :D

    Thank you. It took a lot of time to see all Episodes but it was woth to do it. I'll never build up a guitar because of my two left hands, but from now I ` ve got a frame to underdstand what makes a guitar special. Very helpful.

    As an aspiring guitar builder,I would love to see him make a new updated video of every step, from drawing up a template, marking frets, the whole measuring stuff that makes a guitar a guitar, start to finish, starting with just blocks of wood....I wish I has the time, money, and equipment to build, but I don't so I love my luthier life through ppl like Ben.

    Man, I am so disapointed I found this video series 5 days too late, to enter the contest. I watched the entire series on my day off yesterday, because I've been wanting to customize a kit electric. I am so inspired by this series, that I am ordering a kit from you guys this morning. Beautiful Guitar, and Badass! Thank you for all the helpful info, and inspiring videos. I have subbed, and will keep watching. I cant wait for the next build.

    I found this channel just browsing the Tube and finding one of the middle videos. I stopped it and went back to the beginning and have watched them all over the last week. What a fantastic project! You are quite the artist and a very skilled craftsman. You are also quite entertaining. I haven't yet seen your other formats but the format her was great. Keep up the the good work! Signing off from Texas.

    because of you, Ben, and this build, , your mini-torials, and your builders basics videos, i have taken the plunge, and ordered some s4s lumber to start building my dream neck through guitar. thank you for your amazing works and guidance.
    as for what i would love to see in an upcoming series, i would love to see a multi laminate neck through guitar based on a unique or extreme guitar... one that would require carving out a design in the body, like a tree of life, celtic knot or a dragon, that would be carved into the entire body.

    First thing that pops into my head after the finished build is T.A.R.D.I.S. maybe it's the blue and the lights and the futuristic steam punk look but that's what it reminded me of. Beautiful guitar, I'd love to see it on my wall.

    I love the modifications you did to this kit, especially the hexagonal sound holes. It makes me think of a honey comb. Maybe make that a theme on another of these guitars, honey comb sound holes over a hollow body resonating chamber with a honey gold sunburst finish. Maybe a hexagonal hole cut into the head-stock, and maybe even a carved bee. I think that would look sweet!
