God Bless you Peter as you reminisce over your one true love. May you similarly be connected once again as you listen to the heavenly chords of Voces8. God Bless you each and every day. WRgds from David in Melbourne, Australia 🥸👌🙏🙏💕
You good people are getting me through this pandemic. I hope at some point restrictions in the UK are lifted to the point where the 8 of you could safely gather in a venue somewhere, spaced 2m apart -- I would pay good money to hear a good livestream from you and I'm sure thousands of fans worldwide feel the same way.
I agree!i discovered voces 8 just as the quarantine started 3 months ago. I am so crazy about you and your music. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart❤️
@@Paul.Morgan That was amazing, wasn't it? Every group was special in its own way but I am so impressed/mesmerized by Voces8 - they do everything right. Everything. I have my ticket for the Christmas series, can't wait!
Hang in there Steven, Voces8 and the Good Lord will pull you through. When you listen to their sublime chant it really is transcendent and l pray you too may continue to respond in kind as you listen more to their incantations. God Bless. 🥸👌🙏🙏💕
Oh, thank you... Very bad fourth day after a bad fall, but you turned it around. Pain dropped away, stress evaporated and I’m left in the land of peace. Best of all possible medicine. Thanks for your kindness and talent! This is a VOCES8 day!
I've been looking for this song, my choir used to sing it at complines sometimes when my patients died. I'm not ashamed to say I wept openly when I heard this.
The advanced harmonic language of Gibbons is here presented to perfection by an ensemble whose members listen to each other. Breath control is perfect, indicating hours of preparation.
Drop, drop, slow tears, and bathe those beauteous feet, which brought from heaven the news and Prince of Peace. Cease not, wet eyes, his mercies to entreat; to cry for vengeance, sin doth never cease. In your deep floods, drown all my faults and fears; nor let his eye see sin, but through my tears.
You guys would be the most amazing group I have had the privilege to hear..what an inspiration you all are ..I just love you all thank you for making my world a better place God bless you
This is singing at its best. The balance is perfect, the entrances and cutoffs are perfect. In all my years of singing, listening, perfecting, and everything you try to do to make a perfect performance, I call this one perfect. Can I say it one more time? PERFECT
You can say it as often as you wish, and it will get a hearty AMEN from me. With more than a half-century of choral singing and conducting church music, often this very moving anthem, especially at Communion and always at either Ash Wednesday or Maundy Thursday, and always striving devotedly for that spiritual magic that this piece so perfectly embodies, I readily agree that of all I have sung or heard this truly is perfection.
What sad soul hit dislike on this song? I can only assume it was a mistake. I hope to hear harmonizing like this when I die and make my ascent to the heavens someday. Absolute perfection! Voces8, you never fail!
Thank you for your singing! I listen to your music every day, it bring me much joy and comfort . The transparency, and the way you seem to allow the music to stand forward and shine in its own magical way is stunning. Anne in Denmark
Drop, drop, slow tears, And bathe those beauteous feet Which brought from Heaven The news and Prince of Peace. Cease not, wet eyes, His mercy to entreat To cry for vengeance Sin doth never cease. In your deep floods Drown all my faults and fears Nor let His eye See sin, but through my tears.
Wow! Phenomenal. The best version I have ever heard. The blending of the voices is sheer perfection. Will be good to hear a solo from the new lady soon.
Exquisitely beautiful and profoundly moving, and oh so fitting a prayer for these troubled times. (And, as always, perfectly performed, with great sensitivity!) Somehow saying a mere "thanks" seems inadequate, but words are all I have, so THANKS !!!
I have tried to find a perfect rendering of this beautiful Hymn tune. The text is written by Phineas Fletcher (1582-1650) and is usually sung to that of Song 46 written by Orlando Gibbons circa 1623. I has taken me 50 + years to track down this piece. The reason is that I usually try to familiarize myself with the Chorale or Hymn tune. As an organist I have to have the tune set in stone in my head so that I know the direction of the composer when they are writing a Chorale Prelude or piece, because I do want the tune to stand out slightly. I have a piece written by Vincent Persichetti "Chorale Prelude on Drop, Drop, Slow Tears" for organ - Opus 104 (January 15, 1968) and I love the piece but it is a bit "modern" and slightly "atonal" and it is hard to create a sense of "through composition" for the listener. I do not like to confront or "scare" the bejezus out of my audience and this piece has the opportunity to do just that. Finding the structure of the original hymn and playing it from that perspective will cohesively marry all of the disparate sections offered in the composition and create a whole experience for the listener. Thank you!
I find myself coming back to you site (utube ) more than ever so Fantastic HARMONY i also sing in small choir acapella the one i like most is Christ with Me Have you cd's lovely sound peace
Oh wow, just wow! I heard this on the BBC’s Sunday service, and had to look up what the work was and who it was performed by, because I knew I had heard something of sublime beauty. This is absolutely magnificent!
Love you guys, if i was thirty years younger I'd be banging down the door to join! Such rich harmonies and smooth blended tones. Just a tad too slow though I reckon.
Why no mention of the composer - the sublime Orlando Gibbons, buried in Canterbury Cathedral as he was on his way to the Kent coast when he died, to meet Henrietta Maria, the French princess betrothed to Charles I.
Wow, June 11, 2020, so just posted a couple months ago! I was looking for a professional version of this song (after hearing a not-so-professional recording), and THRILLED to find this from VOCES8, my favorite vocal group. :D
by Orlando Gibbons; text by Phineas Fletcher. Just now I ran into a recent setting by Paul Mealor of this text, which would be an exciting addition to the VOCES8 repertoire. Oh and I see you have already recorded the Thomas Hewitt Jones setting ruclips.net/video/ytKOpigjFvU/видео.html
Very nice, but as a composer, can I please request that you include the name of the composer in the information that goes with the RUclips clip. At the very least in the 'Show More,' section. Which this does not :-( (It's Orlando Gibbons by the way, and he's awesome :-) )
Who gave 4 thumbs down? The ONLY possibility is they didn't like the Gibbons. I love it personally ❤️. It is amazingly tricky to sing it this well, subtle nuance and just lovely. I'm not sure I've heard it sung better, except when I am singing it, 1st CT. LOL

Caed, caed lentas lágrimas en su profundo torrente, ahogad todas mis culpas y miedos, y no dejéis que sus ojos vean el pecado, sino a través de mis lágrimas.

As wonderful as your performance is, the video experience would be enhanced with words as subtitles. I often present such videos to my senior groups, and they can't discern sung words.
As always, lovely. But why do all of you dress like you are attending a corporate board meeting? With the relaxation of “concert attire” through the world, you really don’t need to put on silk dresses, heels and coat and tie to make such heavenly music.
I always repeat this piece of music several times before i can be fully satisfied. Thank God for those who write, direct and to those who sing and above all the accompanist out there. what a beautiful song.
I ve had a hard time... My wife passed away after 40 years of marriage ... You gave me comfort and acceptation....

I’m so sorry for your enormous loss. I pray for people around to comfort you.
How could any human say there is no God. Never have I heard this piece of music sung with such feeling. This brought me to tears.
Have I died and sitting amongst the angels? WOW!

3+1 of them have already done that, just last week. Here's to many more such sessions.
I agree!i discovered voces 8 just as the quarantine started 3 months ago. I am so crazy about you and your music. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart❤️
This VOCES8 appreciator certainly does! I don’t like the term ‘fan’ as it’s short for ‘fanatic’ and don’t connect VOCES8 with any sort of fanatic.
They do
@@Paul.Morgan That was amazing, wasn't it? Every group was special in its own way but I am so impressed/mesmerized by Voces8 - they do everything right. Everything. I have my ticket for the Christmas series, can't wait!
I am at a very low point in My life. This hymn , sung by these wonderful people , gives me hope. Thank you

Tenderness so strongly rendered. Thankyou all. You matter very much.
Having just lost a dear friend of 70+ years, I immediately know to come here for solace.

Agree with Kate Spalding - an oasis of calm and tranquility!
So much sensitivity, so much peace, an oasis of calm and tranquility.
Thank you so much.
Love all of them, but the altos look like they would be the most fun at a dinner party.
There is only one Alto, in Blue - the other is the Counter Tenor next to her.
The love you have for each other really comes through.
May you love forever.
»A mouth full of sound« is what comes to my mind when listening to this wonderful piece.
Angels singing. It was too beautiful to be so short.
Drop, drop, slow tears,
and bathe those beauteous feet,
which brought from heaven the news
and Prince of Peace.
Cease not, wet eyes,
his mercies to entreat;
to cry for vengeance, sin
doth never cease.
In your deep floods,
drown all my faults and fears;
nor let his eye see sin,
but through my tears.
Obrigado!

Your complete blend is absolutely amazing. One of the top choral groups right now.

Merci pour ce beau moment de sérénité dans une autre dimension.
I literally have to cry. How beautiful.
Phrasing and clarity are beyond words
Drop, drop, slow tears,
And bathe those beauteous feet
Which brought from Heaven
The news and Prince of Peace.
Cease not, wet eyes,
His mercy to entreat
To cry for vengeance
Sin doth never cease.
In your deep floods

I have long loved this brief meditation. This is perhaps the most beautiful and sublime performance of it that I have ever heard! Thank you so much.
Absolutely wonderful. We sang this at York Minster yesterday and your arrangement is just beautiful. Thank you!
This is about as close to perfection as is possible.
Meine lieben Freudebringer! Vielen, vielen Dank für euer wohltuendes Singen.

It could at least be sung at a decent pace. Watching it at about 1.5x does the trick but 1.25 is also good
Thank you x

Please record the other two versions of this text, most recently written by Bob Chilcott or the Stopford. Have you done the Walton?

Lyrics
1 Drop, drop, slow tears,

2 Cease not, wet eyes,

to cry for vengeance
sin doth never cease.

Who wrote the music?
Orlando Gibbons.
Luke 7:36-50.

There are plenty of videos of them in casual attire. Maybe they dressed up out of respect for the text.
Either formal wear or indeed traditional cassocks and surplices are best
I always repeat this piece of music several times before i can be fully satisfied.
Thank God for those who write, direct and to those who sing and above all the accompanist out there. what a beautiful song.
