I love this. My brother died yesterday and whenever I watch this I'm reminded that he was on his way home and is home now. We're all on our way home. Thanks for this beautiful song.
The next time someone asks me why I put so much time and effort in singing with a chamber choir, I will just play this for them. THIS is the goal. THIS is the reason.
My dear Dad is almost 89 years old. He will not be with us much longer. I pray for his peaceful passing, the end of his pains and worries. God keep us all in your mercy.
This version isn't like other settings of The Road Home. Other settings have more momentum, more power behind each of the words, because other choirs have dozens of different voices to lend. But in this cover, there are only 8 singers, and the song comes across differently as a result. What was once a grand homecoming becomes a quiet contemplation about the ways we move through life, and not a single note is wasted. Every word carries so much more weight, and the spaces between phrases feel vast. But the sparse setting of this arrangement trades the scope of a larger choir for surgical precision - and every word feels so much more important as a result. What an incredible performance.
This is my favorite version of this that I've heard. And mainly because I realize I like the clarity and simplicity of a small choir singing it. Well, that, and the fact that these young people are terrific musicians. I'm a fan
Ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo Ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo Tell me, where is the road I can call my own That I left, that I lost So long ago? All these years I have wandered Oh, when will I know There's a way, there's a road That will lead me home Ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo Ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo After wind, after rain When the dark is done As I wake from a dream In the gold of day Through the air there's a calling From far away There's a voice I can hear That will lead me home Ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo Ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo Rise up, follow me Come away, is the call With the love in your heart As the only song There is no such beauty As where you belong Rise up, follow me I will lead you home Ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo Ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo
This song brings me to tears every time, it was our senior send off song in high school, and we used to sing it hand in hand as a chamber group at our spring concert. ❤️❤️
And over the years when I go back to my college singing reunions the text continue to hold even more relevance and resonance. What an absolutely stunning piece regardless of where any of us is in our life stage.
Even if I had the voice or training to do this, I could never get through a song without choking up. Everything this group does is so primally gripping and pure. Well done.
I just added it to mine I know I don’t fit the norm but I whole heartedly feel the passion in this music and you can feel the emotions in every part. This is a art in its truest form
Exactly what I was thinking. It’s for people who love a beautiful poem set to a beautiful tune with a beautiful arrangement and singers with gorgeous voices.
my choir sang this beautiful song as our closer for our final concert with the our highschool director, who has been with my district for 7 years and will be leaving to go finish school himself. he had been with the seniors since their first year of middle school, and saying “goodbye” was undeniably difficult and hurtful. this piece is emotional, and it was downright gut wrenching when we sang it for the last time as a choir. these people were my family and i just am in love with the last couple of lines of this song. because, truly, there is absolutely no such beauty as where you belong.
In high school, this song was the traditional song we sang every year, every graduation, and it meant a great deal to me. My senior year my choir teacher decided to change it and I never got to sing it at my graduation. I haven't listened to this song in years, but god does it make me tear up. Beautiful song and wonderful voices.
We played this video at my grandmothers funeral 4 years ago. This is the first time i have seen this video again and it brought a tear to my eye. What a strong loving woman my grandmother was.
We had the honor of using this piece/arrangement in the film, "We Shall Not Die Now", which features new interviews with Holocaust survivors, made for the 75th anniversary of the ending of WW2. It plays during the final sequence when survivors, now in their nineties, returned to Auschwitz to march shoulder to shoulder with their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Amazing piece of music and sung so beautifully by Voces8.
my first guitar ,baught by my dad,at age 11 was a classical, ive been a musician and singer / artist / writer since before even that ,my dad too.a pianist organist choirmaster and irish , who found a calling to the priesthood at 45,retired now at 92 but still a musician. recently i baught a rare yairi classical in a state of disrepair, baught originally from an irish gypsy for 10 pounds.ive been lovingly restoring it ....and gave it its first recording session only last monday.like the sentiment ,metaphorically and litterally its been like a homecoming for me too.!! one never loses these roots ! mine in choral music as a chorister.and through jazz, singer- songwriter and so much more. a very heartfelt thankyou to the voces for their continuing and moving musics !!! the voice ...the most primal sound this planet posseses ❤
Voces 8, I salute you. A singer of old, I am in awe of your effortless execution, time and time again. Superbly balanced sound and no hint of errors. Absolutely stunning. I sooo would love to hear you in concert in real life, whefn that returns.
Beautiful sound!! Words are ambiguous. Who are we following: where is home? Why should we follow you? WHERE is this home to which you are leading us? Haunting sounds, tempted to follow, but no clear information about where we are going!!! "I go and prepare a place for you; and if I go, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself, that where I am, there you may be also!!!" LOVE, JESUS
I am piano accompanist for a community choir and we are doing this at the moment. Glorious music and performed here to perfection. The words always affect me deeply, with their sense of longing.
Glorious singing. I do however wish that ALL CHOIRS who post on RUclips would also include the names of composers! It helps the rest of us who might want to perform this music with our own choirs! In this case, this beautiful piece is by the American composer Stephen Paulus.
Just came across this! Beautiful! Arrangement ! You guys nailed it!!! Loved it! It brought me so..... much joy! Recently loss my wife to cancer, this helped ease the pain! That's the power and magic of choral music! Thanks gang! Northern MN. Boy Eric
Of many fine performances of The Road Home on YT, this is one of the most beautiful - with such restraint, without any showiness, and superb phrasing allowing the silent pauses full expression!
Let it soar over top, Andrea. Carry me away. This is an old video, but this song is part of their new release this week. Euan Williamson has replaced the second tenor here.
Whenever I hear a song for the first time, if it’s sung by Voces8, their performance sets the bar and I can never enjoy the original more… it’s a good problem to have.
You bring me to tears in the most beautiful way each time you sing this❤️🇨🇦Thank you for your healing gifts! My husband and I (46 + years)! Feel this captures our gratitude fir one another.
Ohhhh...Darn....I am soooo hooked with these marvels of the human voice I can't resist! It's like a food you eat that's bad for you but you indulge anyway. This is MUCH better, it is food for the soul that is life giving for you! The human voice was the first musical instrument long before there was music and still is an original with each of us. These folks have shown us in this era what the voice is as a musical instrument, not just a way to produce connected sounds. Not only do you get your mind enveloped with that quality of time stopping sounds but your heart skips a beat when you are immersed in the sound...it stops, because you are above of the corporal state, gets immersed then realizes it needs to beat . We must enjoy them while we can..... they are an extreme rarity, once in a century or more. My soul is extremely indebted to their artistry, I am alive knowing that there is still beauty that is produced by humans, souls incorporate! My hope still lives for such beauty!
How wonderful! Voices and arrangement are so beautiful! Reminds me of a CD called The Glory of the Human Voice. I wish you all the best in your career.
I love this song very much. My choir teacher always brings one choir performance to us a week to view and answer questions about the performance, and why we like it. I thought some of the higher notes in the song sounded angelic.
This is such a beautiful rendition of this song! We sing this song at graduation every year the seniors take the first line then we all join in! Irs beautiful and listening to this makes me think of that!
Amazing song and y’all made it even better! Y’all should do Only In Sleep by Esenvalds. It’s sort of the same style as this song and would sound incredible I’m sure.
Stars, by Eriks Esenvalds, would also sound wonderful if they did it. He incorporates resonant crystal goblets in his score (filled with water for certain pitches) and the dissonances are exquisite.
So wonderful! Thank you so much for making my day! I would really like to hear you sing the Scottish song ‘The Parting Glass’! I’m sure it will sound amazing!
I love this. My brother died yesterday and whenever I watch this I'm reminded that he was on his way home and is home now. We're all on our way home. Thanks for this beautiful song.
I'm sorry for your loss. I hope your memories together can bring you some comfort.
im sorry for your loss:(
Eternal grant unto him, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him. May his soul, and all the souls of the faithful departed, rest in peace.
Rip
Awww this genuinely almost made me cry - hope you're doing well a year later.
The next time someone asks me why I put so much time and effort in singing with a chamber choir, I will just play this for them. THIS is the goal. THIS is the reason.
YES.
Absolutely! It's kept me sane for over 30 years. 👍
This to be honest
❤🙏 verbatim x
Yes ma’am. My sentiments. I just have to sing music like this. This is my happy place.❤️🙂
My dear Dad is almost 89 years old. He will not be with us much longer. I pray for his peaceful passing, the end of his pains and worries. God keep us all in your mercy.
God bless you both.
Damn, this is crazy
Edit: that’s sad and all, I just don’t understand the relevancy

Sublime musique, Divine, que cela fait du bien à l.âme 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
“There is no such beauty as where you belong.” One of the loveliest lyrics ever written.
Ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo
Ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo
Tell me, where is the road
I can call my own
That I left, that I lost
So long ago?
All these years I have wandered
Oh, when will I know
There's a way, there's a road
That will lead me home
Ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo
Ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo
After wind, after rain
When the dark is done
As I wake from a dream
In the gold of day
Through the air there's a calling
From far away
There's a voice I can hear
That will lead me home
Ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo
Ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo
Rise up, follow me
Come away, is the call
With the love in your heart
As the only song
There is no such beauty
As where you belong
Rise up, follow me
I will lead you home
Ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo
Ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo
Thank you for adding the lyrics to your text. Beautiful
You have the most heavenly and beautiful voices and bring hope to the world in these hard and uncertain times. God bless you all.
I think this very thing every time I hear them again.
Yes these voices brings calmness and peace to our souls, God Bless You and may the Lord watch over you, now and forever.
This song brings me to tears every time, it was our senior send off song in high school, and we used to sing it hand in hand as a chamber group at our spring concert. ❤️❤️
Soon to be 67 year old man here. I tear up as well. Nothing I've heard through the all the years is as beautiful.
I’m about to sing it in mine in like 2 weeks for the same reason 💕… & I got the solo💕💕
And over the years when I go back to my college singing reunions the text continue to hold even more relevance and resonance. What an absolutely stunning piece regardless of where any of us is in our life stage.
@@27mondo moins, bientôt 66...idem ! 🥲
i’m singing this for my graduation in 3 weeks i’m so excited 🥲💗💗
Even if I had the voice or training to do this, I could never get through a song without choking up. Everything this group does is so primally gripping and pure. Well done.
Another absolutely beautiful and touching piece added to my play-at-my-funeral music selection.
My funeral will basically be a Voces8 concert 😅
my dad (100+!) just died 2 days ago, this is for him. I trust your funeral is only a 100 years from now, sweetie...☺
I just added it to mine I know I don’t fit the norm but I whole heartedly feel the passion in this music and you can feel the emotions in every part. This is a art in its truest form

we’re singing this in my select ensemble, it’s so beautiful especially when we sung it in the stairwell
I found this recently and I keep returning to it. My mind is calmed and my load is lightened every time. Thank you!
Yes, my road home to my loveones is bright and I will soon meet them again. God Bless You!

‘There is no such beauty as where you belong’ ... truer words have never been spoken.
This is the line that completely stands out to me as well. Flawless.

That movie is on my Amazon watchlist. This song seems very appropriate.
Just wanted to let you know I watched the film. It was beautifully done. Thank you for sharing these stories.
Andrea! Go get it! Lovely! Perfection all the way through from that seriously low note to Andrea's top note. What a way to start my morning.
I want this group to cover every song ever written. Thank You
Singing the solo part in a chorus, I can say that this is perfection.
Beautiful! Andrea's voice is "other worldly"!
That top note allows me to touch Heaven!! brilliant!

This was the song I sang at my graduation with my choir and I cried
I am waiting for the day I get to sing with the Angels of Heaven. That is where I will gravitate to.❤️🙏✌️
That bass!! What a gorgeous low tone 🤍✨
Andrea, that note at 2:25 ripped my soul out.....I'm an old fart but I'm yours forever more
Exquisite as always. Each of you is a gift from God. Thank you for sharing your extraordinary talent, skill, and knowledge.
Soft when it should be. Most excellent. Thank you.

This song bought a tear to my eye. Made me remember my Uncle Ricky’s battle with Cancer. At least now, he is without pain. Now, he is “home”.
Wow, so beautiful.
When i hear Voces8, it feels as if time was suspended for a while..... and that is an amazing feeling.
Heavenly.. Thats just how i can describe this
If Paulus had only written this one piece it would have still marked him a great contemporary choral music composer. Fabulous
Sounds to soothe our souls in these turbulent days. Perfection.
