You get all 4 seasons unlike Arizona that's for sure. Also be prepared to get pulled and get a ticket. Officers don't mess around. Never got a direct speeding ticket until I came here. The cities must need money. The quota must be high.
I have lived in Utah since I was three years old, and I am now 66. Utah has changed immensely over the past 30 years. I miss the days when there were wide open areas everywhere, and I could drive to any destination without traffic problems. I love Utah, and I used to dislike people moving here, but I realized I was being selfish, wanting this beautiful state all to myself. 😁 Great video! I agree with everything you mentioned. I just want to add that if you move here, please don't complain about who we are. Instead, focus on all the wonderful people and the beauty you see everywhere.
I don't think that's what she is saying at all and humans typically resist change, but the only constant is change... and Utah is going to continue to grow.
Traffic!!! With the cost of real-estate and the boom of condos, the traffic from Provo to Ogden is insane!! And the canyons are like Disney. SO crowded!
If you’re moving here don’t try to change it. Don’t try to change the politics, and don’t complain about the religion. Both were here before you. Don’t bring the State baggage you left behind. Especially California.
I just came here from Colorado, and I didn't bring anything from that awful state, except my dogs. So glad to be in Utah and I would never want to change it.
Its not just home prices but rent as well in 10 years rent has more then doubled in price. The cheapest rent i have seen in utah county is 1350 for a 1 bedroom but on a bright note all your neighbors will be on a first name basis with the police ;)
@tpackn45 and we like having wide open spaces without 4 million condos and traffic and water restrictions. I moved from SLC to the rural city my husband grew up in. The population was less than 1000. Now it it almost 4000 in just the last 5-7 years. In the middle of nowhere with no jobs and nothing to do. It was perfect, now it has a bunch of people moving here that we don't have enough water for the homes, let alone for landscaping. We had wild life everywhere, but we're developing all their food plots into 4-800,000 homes. Come for a visit, then go.
Lived here for decades and the dry air is no joke. I get eczema every year, and my father who was in Tennessee for 16 years just moved back this year and get nose bleeds daily. I just bought 3 humidifiers to help. Our air quality the last few years hasn't been bad because of the rain we've had, but it's been bad in past years. Our mountains and lakes though are the best, and if you come here, DON'T try and change us. Assimilate into Utah and you will love it.
Air quality and inversions are often and deep pollution. Real estate super expensive. Plan on making at least 200,000.00 a year to afford a decent home. Traffic in metropolitan area is bad, bad, bad!
I live in Vegas and Utah is close enough for a day trip/shopping adventure. I have visited Utah many times and really love the state and its stunning beauty. Most of the time I am visiting Southern Utah, but have taken the occasional trip up to SLC. That being said, I don't blame you to for not wanting other people to move into their state. Believe it or not, we in Nevada are the same way. We have been Californicated, (at least in southern Nevada) and wouldn't wish it on anyone. So I am happy visiting!
I'm glad I'm glad because when you have a red State we take our our our our our our our our laws against criminals seriously and I'm glad that we're well protected for the most part I am very glad that they're pro-life and no I'm not Mormon not at all I'm actually born again Christian which is a big difference a whole different story, but I'm very glad that they take that most of us take it seriously we don't ever want to have wokeness here heck no we want masculinity for us men and feminine goes for the women that's right we understand there's only two genders, and we want people who who want to have they're on the right side of history and they understand to respect things that are good values and our freedoms that's what being a conservative conservative is all about is valuing our freedoms not supporting perversion not supporting weird freaks that's right I'm glad and most of the country is actually going that way believe it or not most of the countries with this last election thank God the majority of the country that's why we won in a landslide an epic Landslide Annihilation 80% of the country voted so we can have what we have here it's all documented so it speaks for itself that's only 20% that leaves with the people that are weird or Twisted that's 20% so in other words the numbers dwindled dramatically and pretty soon it's going to be eradicated completely that's going to be a good thing the majority of the country spoke loud and clear that we want our freedoms our conservative values that's why he won in the landslide epic annihilation thank God too
We don't want Colorado people here we don't want definitely don't want California people here here's the thing there's been a study done and the people that are moving from the blue states to Utah that vast majority of them are conservatives because they want to get away from the mess the chaos that they came from so the red states are getting redder not the other way around they're getting more red that's actually a beautiful thing and we want to keep it that way
Family centric values centered around the common good of the communities along with time tested values of service, giving, gratitude, country, and God.
We moved here 8 years ago from Southern California. We love everything about Utah! Would never try to change anything about it! Unfortunately so many more people coming here from blue states want to change everything to be how it is where they came from! Stay where you are !!
Utah native here - if you have a deviated septum, winter weather can be especially cumbersome. Hoping to eventually get a rhinoplasty to remedy this issue with me. Oh, and the cracked bleeding back of hands is no joke either.
That is so funny!!! You made me laugh out loud!!!! My husband had a deviated septum and also our son!!!! I’ve had a lot of bloody noses… I am 76 now, and that has been within the last 2 to 3 years, because of the dryness!!!! And my 12 year old granddaughter has had some nosebleeds lately!!!! I live in Bountiful and she lives with her brother and our son in Vineyard in Utah county!!!! (our daughter-in-law passed away this last Easter from stage four melanoma!!!! She was born and raised here, and that is another drawback, because of the high altitude here and being close to the sun, etc.! We moved down from Alaska 22 years ago… I have had melanoma, stage, one, three times here… Our daughter-in-law was fair skinned and I am also!!! There is a lot of melanoma!!!!! But we have really good hospitals and doctors and clinics here for the medical attention!!!! Thank you so very much for a really great video I think!!!! And you being a real estate agent can really do a good video, knowing a lot about our state and the housing market, etc.!!!! My parents had been in the real estate business back in the suburbs of Philadelphia years ago… have you found the gospel of Jesus Christ yet?!?!! He is coming soon!!!! ❤️😇🙏✝️🇺🇸✡️🇮🇱❄️🌲🩷 Gay Michaelis and family
You forgot to mention that you absolutely have to have a vehicle here. Unless you live downtown. Even tho we have the front runner in part of the corridor, it doesn't take you to the majority of suburbs. Also, having a car here is very expensive to license. All your kids friends are going to be mormon kids which has pros and cons.
Sorry Scott, but as a Baptist who has lived in Utah since 2013, I agree with @pirateteamh. 'Funny' alcohol laws are a prime example of the lack of separation between church and state. Utah can be very controlling to its citizenry and that seems 'non-existent' to those of us who weren't raised in the LDS Church.
Funny alcohol laws do not show a prime example at all. Look up all of the states with funny alcohol laws. It is not representative of no separation of church and state. Those laws nor was prohibition, created by "Church." When people regularly regurgitate the same old narrative without understanding the actual meaning of the words including "separation of church and state," "Theocracy," or any other term it just proves to be either misinformation or ignorance. It doesn't matter that I've lived here for 46 years or that you've lived here for 13 years and it doesn't matter that you or anyone else is Baptist or any other religion, it doesn't change what is true. Yes, the laws are created by human beings with a definitive leaning towards the belief that alcohol isn't good for society and that is reflected in our laws. Those humans create laws as politicians, not as leaders of a church.
I laugh every time I hear such nonsense. Native Utahn that recalls going back east 20 years ago to get asked how many husbands I have and were are my horns !! I almost wish people still believed this . Utah was a safer place because of our laws it was a clean state also slowly all going to crap as the more different viewed people move here. We welcome all but respect this amazing state and the people around you it actually just made the top 10 most expensive places to live it becoming the new Silicon Valley unfortunately. And good luck getting up a canyon anymore to base any opinions on alcohol or any other nonsense can’t even belie some of the things that come out of people mouths anymore
I lived in Utah for about twenty years. My husband was military and then retired. Both in and out of the service, he found the people friendly and had a number of Mormon friends. However, I graduated from a university in Utah and then taught in public schools. I felt as if I had gone back in time to the 50s. The only acceptable careers for mothers of young children were teaching and nursing. The husbands made the decisions for the family and wives were taught not to say "no" to their husband's. Also, the Mormon women were friendly enough until they found out I was Catholic and not interested in their religion. The people were rude unless they knew you from their church. My husband was offered a job back in Utah. I told him he could take the job, if he wanted, but I would not move with him. I have even met Mormons from other states who had trouble adjusting to and making friends in Utah I don't recommend moving to Utah.
@ We are being honest. I was raised Mormon, born and raised in Utah. Calling it like it is. The majority in Utah are Mormon/ LDS and it is a completely different culture than other states. Women are overlooked and paid 70 percent less than women in the rest of the country. It’s a man based religion, and this makes Utah a more masculine state. Also Utah used to be one of those places where you could enjoy the outdoors. You can’t do that anymore because it’s so overly populated.
Having been raised in Utah as a Mormon, you have a completely different view of Utah than those moving from other states. As a Catholic, teacher, wife of a military officer, and mother of two daughters, I found it very difficult to make friends (as did my daughters). People would talk to me for a few minutes, but when I stated I was not interested in learning about the LDS church, they did not talk to me again.
I think the humid cold is way warmer than the dry cold. But i came from Alaska so i kinda chuckle when people say winter. It's more like a mild springtime.
@@scottdsteele the increase in population and the rise in prices is driving me out of my own home. From what I’ve seen, you’re trying to drive people here who can afford prices higher than what someone starting out can’t afford. I might have my facts wrong on that, but from what I’ve seen it hurts young people like me with nothing to work with.
I'm not trying to drive anyone to make any decision whatsoever, I'm answering the very questions that people have who are making the move here or who have moved here. I promise you, I don't carry that type of influence.
Doesn't just hurt the young. My husband was murdered when I was 42 and I couldn't keep our house. I had three kids and had to work two full-time jobs. They are grown now, and I can not find an apartment I can afford. Getting a house is out of the picture. I'm renting a bedroom from my first husband. First time in my life, and at the age of 60, I'm one argument away from literally homeless.
I've lived here in Utah my whole life I've always loved it by lately anymore it's been driving me nuts I mean it's gotten extremely crowded too many people come here for what 🤔 the prices of living has gone sky high it's outrageous studio apartment is 1200.00 and low income housing there ain't no such thing it's still very expensive but it is what it is right Peace, Love and Light
I’m a California native Moved here like 2 years ago because my dad helped my wife and I buy a house here. We live like 25 miles south of Provo. What I like the most is how nice and kind people are here I don’t think it’s like that in areas that are more populated Gas and food are a lot less here. The Winters definitely suck. I’m use to living next to the beach. I don’t agree that the members here are a minority. But, the Religious influence is not any different than it was in California when I was a little boy. People were more religious in the 60s and early 70s. Ya, the traffic here has gotten worse. (I lived here as a small boy from 1963-1966). Utah has exploded. Especially from the year 2,000. We lived in Lake Arrowhead from 1980-1984. Utah is very similar to living in Lake Arrowhead. Utah has become much more liberal that’s for sure. The Air quality, compared to any California. Come on. You’re kidding me. I also lived in Ohio for 2 years. The weather here is the same except for the humidity. Utah is definitely dry. But, this State has the most beautiful National Parks in the US. And Lake Powell is the greatest lake for boating and recreational fun.
@@scottdsteele I live here since 1999. Changed alot there was no Trax back then almost empty areas like South Jordan farms areas and now is like small cities.
Its a serious air quality problem the valley is the toilet bowl and the lower in the toilet bowl you live the worse the air. So look up project purple. It's an air quality monitoring thing working with WSU.
@@trevorhinesley3460and because their state is run by liberals if you're one you'll feel right at home and California needs to replace their loss of normal people.
I love living in a conservative state. I'm a conservative so it is great to have community here. Im also a homeschooling mother of six who gave up a lucrative nursing career after 15 years to stay at home and i LOVE utah. The state is incredibly kids friendly. There are free splash pads all summer. Pools and beaches everywhere. Museums, indoor playgrounds, beautiful parks.... Alaska was stunning incredible place to live but there were bears and moose everywhere and literally NOTHING for kids that wasnt either incredible expensive or super dangerous because of the wildlife.
@janesmithattheseaside yes, they're are reservoirs everywhere with lovely beaches that don't reek of weed. I grew up in southern California and you CANNOT enjoy the beach with kids unless you want to royal getting them high on weed. The whole place is litered with needles and reek of weed😅
@@scottdsteele Yup, sold my house in US for $400K and bought a beachfront high-tower condo for same price facing the sunset and 100 steps from door to the powdery golden beach sands. No floods, no tsunami, no tornadoes, no blizzards, no earthquakes. We get typhoons but that's the time I stay inside and watch sports on TV. :D
@@brandih9802 No tsunamis in my area. Thailand is shaped like an inverted letter U. And I am on the right side of that inverted U (Pattaya but not Pattaya). Tsunamis will hit Phuket and Koh Samui (left side)
Hi Scott, I really like this kind of videos of yours. You always mention most of the reasons what inspire me to move to Utah, and live there till the end. All the bests!🙂
I moved to central Utah a little over 3 years ago. I am a retiree. I live in a small, conservative city (around 2,000 people, many Mormon). I get along well here. I get invited to LDS functions, but gracefully decline. It is quiet here, quite peaceful. My area is great for daily walks with a huge mountain range to admire. I can't say enough about my location and the nature Utah has to offer. Adjusting to the cold and heat here takes some time (for me). I am glad I was willing to go through the initial transitions. Tough at times, but so worth it. By the way, what attracted me to Utah was/is the mindset of the majority and it's beautiful nature.
Texas and California will gladly welcome y'all! Please keep on driving through. Just don't forget to pick up some lime jello and funeral potatoes as you go....we love your tourist $$$!
Holladay has many left-leaning people now, and they are welcomed. There are still many right-leaning people, but we manage to live together. We are all Americans. I'm not LDS, they do have beautiful temples. If you get a chance to do a Temple walkthrough after they build them, it's worth it. While alcohol isn't a big factor with drivers here, Utah drivers are horrible, especially with their cell phone usage while driving. Best to have a dash cam and drive defensively at all times.
@@scottdsteelebut the good thing is the economy is heading down and so will home price's. Just glad my home in Herriman on and acreage is paid for. And thanks to all these people who've moved here my home I built in 1995 for $320k is now worth over a million dollars. And thanks that my taxes went up proportional also.
Absolutely not planning to move to Utah, I live in the Netherlands, in Europe. But it was nice to learn a bit about the state and its climate. Are you familiar with the term apparent temperature? Because that explains the differences in diverse environments. Nice to know that in Utah the shops are closed on Sunday. That’s also the case in my country and in Germany. And I think that’s a good thing. One day in the week that the people come to rest and can be together.
Thanks for sharing Jannette! And thank you for watching from the Netherlands. Yes, here in the US, more refer to apparent temperature as wind chill or feels like.. but yes. Thanks for sharing!
A lot of these things can be interchangeable with my state of Idaho, except the friendliness towards outsiders...Idahoan HATE outsiders (especially Californians) regardless of values.
Don’t discount UT. There’s plenty of us that hate Californians too. They come here & then try to change it into where they came from. I say if you don’t like it, go back to where you came from.
I truly don't understand why anyone could ever say that they hate anyone simply because they are from any certain state. That's just flat out ignorant and bigoted. Do you really believe that everyone from any state is the same? The answer is no. If you hate anyone because of their political leanings, that's just as ignorant too. Also, in California, just over 9M people voted blue and just over 6M people voted red... how could anyone hate everyone from California on the basis of assuming that they are all of the same belief system, political leaning, or base of values?
Keep in mind southern utah is not where he is referring to. Lived here since 1990 and came from central coast CA only difference no fog or ocean, also no flea problem for our pets.
What are you talking about? I’ve been living in Utah most of my life. The winter time is VERY humid here. Just yesterday (29 November 2024) it was 80% humidity at my house in Weber county and 21 degrees.
Yes, the winter months are the most humid in Utah, but my conversation here is the bigger picture because people watching these videos and people who are moving here are almost guaranteed to be coming from a place far more humid. We have a "dry cold," meaning Utah's air doesn't feel as bitterly cold during the deepest weeks of winter as it does in places like the coastal New England because it lacks in humidity. All anyone who's experienced a winter in the upper Midwest or New England and then Utah. There's no comparison.
@@scottdsteele That's exactly right-because they don't need to go to college or have any chance besides working at McDonalds -not everyone is a salesman.
I don't know what you're trying to say here, and just like everywhere, you don't have to do private school and there's a very diverse number of career paths that anyone can pursue, based on their own skill sets and passions.
Whether you go to a private school or public school makes no difference in the long run. May help a little bit when looking at universities, maybe 🤷♂️ but probably not. No one’s looks at a resume for what they did or where they went to for high school. And if they are, then that’s a job and not a career.
Utah is my home state but left decades ago. I just attended a family reunion in Kaysville/SLC last month and had to laugh about everyone complaining about traffic but then again I live in SE Florida the 3rd most populated state in the US.
I lived in Utah most of my life but retired to a small town in AZ. Utah is beautiful and there are great people there but the traffic is terrible and the winter pollution is bad.
Yes. Lots of options. We live in Clearfield (Base town) but work in SLC. 30-45 min drive traffic dependent. But there are lots of options both north and south of Salt Lake.
Housing is too expensive and our traffic is nothing like California. I help Californians every week and they have the perspective of having lived there.
obviously, we are landlocked .. and the traffic is ridiculous. Takes me 20min to get from 9800 south to 12600 south .. don’t tell me this isn’t like California. Just stop inviting people here. Our native kids can’t buy houses .. seriously. This sucks.
Not a chance. The hatred and ignorance shown towards a group who settled this state (one of the very best in the nation!) is so overplayed, tired, and just wrong.
Also - I personally would consider all of Utah as part of the Sunbelt based on days of full sunshine on average and relatively tolerable winters in central and northern Utah and mild winters in Washington County in Southwestern Utah. Utah is a "Cusp" state IMHO. The geographic diversity blatantly shows you this. This is a HUGE reason why Utah has become so so popular. I love how people compliment the natural beauty of my home state (both inside of Utah by visitors and outside of Utah when I visit) BUT, I am very weary of the COL and housing skyrocketing because of it. I will always cherish my childhood and teenage/young adult years when visiting the mighty five national parks and other recreational areas/towns was MUCH MUCH more accessible, affordable and less crowded.
I love it here. I'm 62 and a lifetime Utah native. I agree about the number of people moving here. I love our winter here. The lack of snow we've experienced is a travesty. That is where our water comes from. Last winter was too dry. The Great Salt Lake is drying out.
Last year, In the 2023 water year, we ended up with 136% of normal so it was a very good year and that followed a record breaking year the year prior. It doesn't need to snow along the Wasatch Front to make for an amazing water year.
I am from here and live here the creator of this video is correct about high housing cost. I assure you they are only rising. And wages are not increasing with no plans or policy in place to do so. Yes it is beautiful and safe comparatively but the high housing is purposeful to only welcome certain high income people. They also have a homless crisis as well as the state government allowing builders to run people out of neighborhoods by condemning older homes so they can build cheap apartments witch anyone can see by the location of these
Thanks for sharing. Those apartments are coming because of the demand for more affordable housing and the decapitated old homes do not provide that. Also, we hardly have a homeless crisis, lol at the data
"Utah was settled for a very different reason than every other state...." A number of the New England colonies were also settled on account of religious persecution.
Those were colonies settled by people seeking religious freedom from countries in Europe. The Church of Jesus Christ came here due to persecution from it's own country and states and Utah became a state from that alone
Back in the 1800s, The LDS Church persecuted others because others wouldn't join their Church. There are a lot of people leaving the Church because they don't like what going on. Just saying
My son recently bought a 1200 sq ft house for half a million. OMG! Construction can't keep up with traffic, no way and construction season now lasts nearly all year. I travel from Idaho to Salt Lake monthly. I'm from Utah and most of my family is in the SL area. Travel from Ogden to slc is horrible. Also, please be aware, most people who talk about Salt Lake generally mean the Wasatch Front, from Bountiful to Riverton. You can NEVER get away from the pollution and with climate change, there's a lot less snow and a lot more wind, which never gets mentioned. Its expensive to own a car because of the inspections and anti-pollution stuff but there is limited public transportation. Oh wait, we'll be getting rid of all those pesky regulations soon so maybe those costs will go away. Of course, the dirty air will make the area unlivable anyway. Also, be aware that the extremely conservative mormon legislators do their best to take away even more of the beautiful natural open spaces to sell them to the highest bidder. And you may have to contend with even higher taxes as they try again to get the Olympics to come again. And think about water, or lack of!
I could debate every one of these points from Salt Lake City having the 2nd highest ranked public transportation system to the record breaking snowfall 2 years ago followed my last year having 150+% of normal, and as I always say.... what you focus on expands. If you focus in the negative, you'll only find more negative and the same goes for the positive.
I think I know what's being said. If you are not a church member you may be ostracized, or maybe not even get the job over someone who is a member. From personal experience.....
Air quality is so bad that even if it happens to be warm enough to go for a walk in the winter it’s not advised! The prices of homes are outrageous and traffic is terrible. I was born here 49 yrs ago and it used to be one of the best places to live but that has changed. I live in what is considered a nice area in east layton but there is a constant fear of packages being stolen and even a few break in’s within this last year. If you make at least 500k yearly then you could possibly get a decent home in an ideal area but the elites are quickly purchasing all that prime land.
Oh .. be sure to let people know that when a bad earthquake happens the valley will experience liquification .. meaning the water table will rise and cause all the land to become like sand at a beach - mobile and like jello in an earthquake .. all those building in the valley will topple, imagine the devastation. Yes, I have been on emergency management teams.. we discuss these issues as they will overwhelm the medical facilities.
I’ve lived in Utah my entire life (34 yrs) and yes it’s a pretty state. But the cost of living and the traffic is absolutely absurd. Add in the mountains being so over crowded now -you can forget about trying to get out in nature for peace. And yes the air quality is awful. The inversion is no joke. A couple days ago we had the worst air quality in the entire country and it’s still going since we’ve had no rain or snow yet. You can literally taste it. Mormonism has become less of an issue as in the members have become more welcoming to outsiders. But they will try and convert you… for a long time. But eventually they’ll give up. We have a saying here that says you never take a Mormon fishing, they’ll drink all your beer. Unless you bring 2. IYKYK 😂
Maybe just don't move to Utah at all. We have no more room. All the Californians and outsiders have destroyed this place. Can't even go hunting, hiking, rock climbing, biking, you name it anymore.
You must ether be super young or not from Utah. In the 80s/90s Utah was amazing. Back when i15 was a 2 lane road and not much traffic. Hardly any lines at Lagoon or ski resorts. Always rock climbing spots no matter where you go. Hunting with hardly anyone around. Homes used to have backyards. Low Crime, you name it. I don't even live around the Wasatch mountain range. Go up to the Uintas to get away? I don't think so. Go southern Utah? I don't think so.
borned and raised in utah now im 65 the state is awesome but now days to many people are here the freeways suck the open farm lands are gone to many home and stuff being build the mormons have been here for decades utah still has low crime and the way of life is still great i dont ski or snow board so i dont care about that i still hate snow but im not moving any time soon
Lived in Utah for a little. Came from Oregon and the PNW so the “outdoor scene” was comforting (although I wish there was more diversity like Oregon has) and people there sometimes take their outdoor status too seriously, like they make it their whole personality which I always found odd. Also coming from the micro-brew capitol of the US, the lack of social acceptance around drinking was new too. Utah is a pretty good state, that’s doing good with their popularity; but I’m happy to be back in the PNW.
I think you’re a little off on the 7 months of winter. I can ride my motorcycle all but a few months. Hell, it’s Dec & I rode today. I usually ride into Jan if the roads are clear. Then I start riding again in April, May at the very latest.
If you are a woman in Utah wanting a career its an uphill battle. Men who interview you will actually ask why you are not staying at with your kids. Even if you work because you have to, it doesnt matter. Be forewarned
Any thing on the booming Washington and Iron counties? With the emerging region from Mesquite NV up to St. George and Iron County probably over 250,000 people expected to grow to over 600,000 people, this area is on fire as well. Nice video btw!
Did you say “everybody” can find a home here? Did you mean “anybody”? Well, Utah was great when we moved here, and before, back when we visited our grandparents here, but I am not as happy here now. And if they were still alive, I am sure they would feel grief over so much growth. Too big of a metropolis of cities along the Wasatch Front…too much traffic. Now beginning drivers after Biden opened the borders. We used to have a cabin that my grandpa built, with help, so we had an out…but had to sell it, so no more out now, and I feel cramped.
I am from here and have lived here for 44 of my 46 years and i do pronounce my T's and I do work on my communication skills both in English as well as Spanish.
@@scottdsteeleThen I take that back. 😊 I’m glad you communicate in both English and Spanish. There are a lot of opportunities for you to help others due to that. 😊 Most native Utahns don’t pronounce their T’s. Myself included.
If you are coming from California, keep going. I understand Colorado is a nice place to live or just keep going, we don't want your messed up politics here.
Every Californian that I've helped move here, which is many, share conservative values. It's time to stop thinking that everyone from CA fits into a box that many perceive. Over 6 million Californians voted red and this is the group that is leaving California to move to more conservative state, not the 9 minion people who voted blue. I do not bring up politics with clients, but they almost always do bring up that they are moving here for these reasons.
You believe that 100° in the summer in a dry climate where it actually cools off when the sun sets is hell? No, this isn't remotely close to hell. Try 118° in Las Vegas or Phoenix or even worse... 100° in the most humid city in the nation in Houston. Those are much, much closer to the hell that you speak of
Three of those reasons are really the same thing. Alcohol laws and politics here all stem from religious influence. For me, it's the only real negative here (even though I rarely drink nowadays). Religions shouldn't run states (or the country).
Religion doesn't run the state, but the politicians that we vote for do and they are certainly influenced by their own beliefs as well as that of their constituents. I personally don't think that anything good comes from alcohol but I understand that many people enjoy it.
I was born and raised in Utah and still in Utah wishing other liberal people from others moving in whould respect Native Utahans views and not raise our cost of living. (Californian)
My daughter lives in Utah and we visit her. Utah is on my I will never move there. Many of your reasons don’t matter because we live in northern Nevada. My reason is no one knows how to drive. People are nasty and just plain weird.
Please DO NOT MOVE TO UTAH! What about water consumption, the amount of water consumed can really affect the Salt Lake
Great video! I agree with everything you mentioned. I just want to add that if you move here, please don't complain about who we are. Instead, focus on all the wonderful people and the beauty you see everywhere.
Thank you for sharing your perspective!

Utah is very crowded now, lots of traffic. Pollution is terrible in winter. Lots of people leave including me.

Utah is not crowded, the Salt Lake valley is! Hundreds of thousands of square miles, without anyone!!!
The metro areas will all become more crowded

Lived here for decades and the dry air is no joke. I get eczema every year, and my father who was in Tennessee for 16 years just moved back this year and get nose bleeds daily. I just bought 3 humidifiers to help. Our air quality the last few years hasn't been bad because of the rain we've had, but it's been bad in past years. Our mountains and lakes though are the best, and if you come here, DON'T try and change us. Assimilate into Utah and you will love it.

Traffic all along the wasatch front is bad.

The term, "Separation of church and state," is non-existent.
Not true
I love Utah
If you’re not a patient driver do not move here 😂and it’s way to cold 🥶 in the winters oh and there are way too many nice people…
Funny. Thanks for sharing!
I have even met Mormons from other states who had trouble adjusting to and making friends in Utah
I don't recommend moving to Utah.
Thanks for sharing
Exactly! If you are not a mormon, forget it!!!
Why is everything about being Mormon or not? This tired old narrative is exactly that... it's over played and ignorant.
That's pretty funny actually
Don’t come here.

@@scottdsteele the increase in population and the rise in prices is driving me out of my own home.
Hi Scott, I really like this kind of videos of yours. You always mention most of the reasons what inspire me to move to Utah, and live there till the end. All the bests!🙂
Thank you so much for sharing!
I love this, thank you so much for sharing!
Texas and California will gladly welcome y'all! Please keep on driving through. Just don't forget to pick up some lime jello and funeral potatoes as you go....we love your tourist $$$!

Texas doesn't want you either unless you're conservative.
People have the freedom to live where they choose
Holladay has many left-leaning people now, and they are welcomed. There are still many right-leaning people, but we manage to live together. We are all Americans. I'm not LDS, they do have beautiful temples. If you get a chance to do a Temple walkthrough after they build them, it's worth it. While alcohol isn't a big factor with drivers here, Utah drivers are horrible, especially with their cell phone usage while driving. Best to have a dash cam and drive defensively at all times.
Thanks for sharing your perspective!

Yes, Utah and Idaho are very similar in many ways
EVERYONE hates HELLIFORNIA
Don’t discount UT. There’s plenty of us that hate Californians too. They come here & then try to change it into where they came from. I say if you don’t like it, go back to where you came from.
Not everyone

Utah is like the 2nd or maybe 3rd driest state in the nation.
It sure is
Well when you also consider that if you love your kids they have to go to private school. So tack on another 20k a year per student.
You don't have to do private school here
@@scottdsteele That's exactly right-because they don't need to go to college or have any chance besides working at McDonalds -not everyone is a salesman.
People "Make It" here regardless of education and it starts and ends with the right mindset

NGL, I really thought this might be a dog on the LDS church. Thanks for keeping it respectful
Thank you so much for sharing your perspective and your experience. I love hearing from you all.

Utah winter is so long! At least it is snowing less now.
It's a very balanced 4 seasons here, although spring and fall can have some days or weeks that feel very much like winter too
I love it here. I'm 62 and a lifetime Utah native. I agree about the number of people moving here. I love our winter here. The lack of snow we've experienced is a travesty. That is where our water comes from. Last winter was too dry. The Great Salt Lake is drying out.
Before moving to Utah, I lived in Germany for two years, South Dakota for four years and North Dakota for fourteen years. Utah's winters are a dream.
Last year, In the 2023 water year, we ended up with 136% of normal so it was a very good year and that followed a record breaking year the year prior. It doesn't need to snow along the Wasatch Front to make for an amazing water year.
They are easy comparatively
Utahs housing prices are terrible! 😢
Yep
Yes, stay out of Utah!!
Why is that?
@@scottdsteeleto many people who want to change Utah and to many real-estate realtors.
I don't want to change Utah either, i love it here. What do you mean by "to many real-estate realtors?"
I love 😘💓 and I like utaaah . I think it is beautiful 😍❤️ Logan is a small city. I love it. It is icy 🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶😊
Spot on!
Just saying
That is totally false. Never did they persecute people for not joining their church.
Good job!
Thanks!
😂
Stay positive
Might want to add even though those that follow the LDS church many of they will
Make it tough to work at places to hire a fellow church member.
I'm not sure what you're saying here
I think I know what's being said. If you are not a church member you may be ostracized, or maybe not even get the job over someone who is a member. From personal experience.....
@@scottdsteele I’m saying what Susan thought. And I and my family have experienced it first hand.
I hear you. I'm sorry that you've experienced that
Got it, that sucks. There are plenty of places to go work where you won't experience that
Air quality is so bad that even if it happens to be warm enough to go for a walk in the winter it’s not advised!
Thanks for sharing
Oh .. be sure to let people know that when a bad earthquake happens the valley will experience liquification .. meaning the water table will rise and cause all the land to become like sand at a beach - mobile and like jello in an earthquake .. all those building in the valley will topple, imagine the devastation. Yes, I have been on emergency management teams.. we discuss these issues as they will overwhelm the medical facilities.
Hopefully I doesn't happen
IYKYK 😂
It’s definitely not like it used to be.
I'm from California and I have been telling everyone how awful it is here, don't make me look bad 😂😂
I love it
you nailed it
Yep!
I've lived in Utah since 1961. Either I've just gotten used to it or I'm a masochist.
Some love it here, some do not
Maybe just don't move to Utah at all. We have no more room. All the Californians and outsiders have destroyed this place. Can't even go hunting, hiking, rock climbing, biking, you name it anymore.
Yes you can. Yes it's busier with more people and you'll have to go further away to get away from people, but yes you can.
Yes you can. Yes it's busier with more people and you'll have to go further away to get away from people, but yes you can.
I don't see any of what you describe. There are so many open, wild remote areas. Just get out of the Wasatch Front, easy to do.
You have to get away from the Wasatch Front
You must ether be super young or not from Utah. In the 80s/90s Utah was amazing. Back when i15 was a 2 lane road and not much traffic. Hardly any lines at Lagoon or ski resorts. Always rock climbing spots no matter where you go. Hunting with hardly anyone around. Homes used to have backyards. Low Crime, you name it. I don't even live around the Wasatch mountain range. Go up to the Uintas to get away? I don't think so. Go southern Utah? I don't think so.
You need to review employment opportunities and taxes.
Absolutely
It is official! Salt Lake has the worst air quality in the country! Don’t believe me, look it up!
Save your lungs and move elsewhere.
Some days in the winter most certainly do
borned and raised in utah now im 65 the state is awesome but now days to many people are here the freeways suck the open farm lands are gone to many home and stuff being build the mormons have been here for decades utah still has low crime and the way of life is still great i dont ski or snow board so i dont care about that i still hate snow but im not moving any time soon
Thanks for sharing Jeff!
Thanks for sharing your perspective!
Agree 100%! You can't beat the Pacific Northwest!
It is beautiful
Utah is FULL!
Really?
Utah has 7 months of winter 2 months of summer & 3 months of fall (No spring) winter typicly ends around the end of June
I understand. Spring is a bi polar season here
I think you’re a little off on the 7 months of winter. I can ride my motorcycle all but a few months. Hell, it’s Dec & I rode today. I usually ride into Jan if the roads are clear. Then I start riding again in April, May at the very latest.
I think some feel that winter is a different thing than others do
Salt lake city above, salt town below
What do you mean?
You left off that Utah is a Sanctuary State, the lawmakers don't openly announce it to the local citizens.
Why would I want to bring this up? I'm not here to talk about immigration, politics, or any other polarizing topic.
If you are a woman in Utah wanting a career its an uphill battle. Men who interview you will actually ask why you are not staying at with your kids. Even if you work because you have to, it doesnt matter. Be forewarned
That certainly may be your experience and i want to add that it by no means is everyone's experience. Not at all.
Any thing on the booming Washington and Iron counties? With the emerging region from Mesquite NV up to St. George and Iron County probably over 250,000 people expected to grow to over 600,000 people, this area is on fire as well. Nice video btw!
Thanks! Yes, I'll have Content about those areas in the spring and I'll have at least a dozen videos that I'll be posting
I hear you
You must not have been raised here… you pronounce your T’s 😂
I agree about Saratoga and Lehi. So horrible driving around there.
Most native Utahns don’t pronounce their T’s. Myself included.
I agree!
Stay out, especially if you're from California
Why?
If you are coming from California, keep going. I understand Colorado is a nice place to live or just keep going, we don't want your messed up politics here.
Every Californian that I've helped move here, which is many, share conservative values. It's time to stop thinking that everyone from CA fits into a box that many perceive. Over 6 million Californians voted red and this is the group that is leaving California to move to more conservative state, not the 9 minion people who voted blue. I do not bring up politics with clients, but they almost always do bring up that they are moving here for these reasons.
@@scottdsteele Being conservative is probably why they moved. Good for them.
Exactly
Are those Jordan Peterson's books?
They are not... but I do have one of those as well
Move to Idah or North Dakota, they are looking for people to move there and it's cheaper there.
I hear you
Are you actually saying that 100° isn't Hell in Utah? If you are, I beg to differ.
@@scottdsteele ok...
We all have beliefs and opinions
100 % agree!! Life long wasatch back resident. 🤙
Thanks for watching!!!
I was born and raised in Utah and still in Utah wishing other liberal people from others moving in whould respect Native Utahans views and not raise our cost of living. (Californian)
Utah is growing from within and from those moving here.
My daughter lives in Utah and we visit her. Utah is on my I will never move there. Many of your reasons don’t matter because we live in northern Nevada. My reason is no one knows how to drive. People are nasty and just plain weird.
Utah isn't for everyone!
Please DO NOT MOVE TO UTAH! Utah is FULL...we have poor restaurants, extreme traffic congestion, neighbors are really snobby, and they go to church on Sundays which causes noise and traffic congestion and you dont get to sleep in...and the fishing is really poor...MOVE TO IOWA or IDAHO or MONTANA or NJ or EVEN LA they have everything you want. AND CHICAgo is the BEST PLACE in all of the USA to live...Please read the billboards that say Welcome to UTAH NOW GO HOME...and OBEY.
Not the most convincing comment here if I'm being honest.
Youmust be from californiássaassss
I'm trying to read and understand your comment, but no... I'm from Utah and I've lived here for 44 years
@@scottdsteele Being facias...have lived in northern Utah for 75 years...have watched bloggers tell the world how we have low crime, beautiful seasons, friendly neighbors (after they get past our religion, pretty good fishing, Mountains, Deserts and amazing sunsets. We know each other well but leave others to do as they please...BUT WE HAVE A problem with those who come to change US. Or bring THEIR customs to our SUNDAYS...LOUD music and 40 cars to a noon dance, or tell us that we need to be more tolerant of those who have come here illegally... YA, I'm old and remember the OLD DAYS...come to AMERICA and Utah but do it the right way and respect OUR way of life.
Being facias??
I understand that Utah has grown immensely and will continue to do so ant that we do not want our way of life changed, but the only constant in life is change and we either adapt or move on
Me who’s moving to Utah on Wednesday 👁️ 👁️
It’s a great place to live
Welcome!!
Yes it is
You will love it!!!! Welcome😊
We just hit one month and it’s been the most incredible experience. I’m so thankful for Utah and all it and the people have to offer. It truly feels like home and like such a breath of fresh air. Hope you have an amazing transition as well! 😊
Stop telling people to move here. Why do you think we have so much pollution and the cost is so high on everything. If you are from California go back.
This is the greatest nation on earth where we have the right to move to wherever we want to.
So if Utah is conservative based, how did you elect such a woke governor?
Great question, I don't have the answer
Yeah, in fact, don't come here at all....we're full!
We're full?
